Songs Played In The Video:
0:55 Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
1:15 Ray Charles - What'd I Say
1:51 Supertramp - The Logical Song
3:14 Cannonball Adderley - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
4:11 Beck - Where It's At
4:58 The Beatles - Get Back
5:14 Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger
6:07 Queen - My Best Friend - Hudba
Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Hammond and mellotron. All legendary in their own way.
Clavinets are also very nice
Mellotron is an exception, I think. That was such an idiot instrument. With very-very cheap sounds...
Ármin Döme I feel, deep in my heart, you are soooooo wrong. As a man who owned 2 wurlitzer 200’s and only once played a mellotron. Mellotrons are magic
@@DomeArmin It was a very experimental instrument, but without it we wouldn't have strawberry fields by the Beatles.
Ármin Döme It’s crazy how limited some people’s minds are
Wurlitzer instantly evokes Supertramp for me! Great job!
Yes!
Me too, for sure
and how can a person NOT start singing Logical Song after starting the riff?? I was singing right with him :-)
yes.... Supertramp sound...!
In this video he plays 2 Supertramp songs The Logical Song and Goodbye Melbourne
He looks like he's cosplaying as the Scout from TF2.
Need a wurlitzer here!
He really does
Yo what’s up
or Tom Morello
0:15
He played some unforgettable gems by Supertramp, but I'll admit it was a crime (of the century) to leave out "Bloody Well Right." That Wurlizter-filled intro is fire!
Totally the one I waited for the whole video :D
yeah, that's none of my favorite tracks!
Love it or hate it, singing along with the Logical Song is compulsory.
Its... wait for it... so logical.
Don't know the song, but love the comment
@@stilliving look it up. its great
Dreamer!
Bloody Well Right!
"What'd I Say" is the first time I remember ever hearing a Wurlitzer. Ray Charles showed what it could do and the rest is history.
You're honestly one of the top 10 coolest people on the Internet.
top 5
Well i don't like this over active behaviour
Hahha!! Thanks man!!!
I love the sound of Wurlitzer it's so chill
Awesome, I’d like to see a vid on the Hammond organ
My Wurlitzer sat on my B -3!
Tom Smith. That’s pretty cheeky, you never kicked him off?
Can we get the Good Doctor to demonstrate how Keith Emerson would 'ride' his Hammond around on stage, stabbing it with knives and then playing it upside down and backwards? XD
Yes, please! Or a Vox Continental, or a Farfisa organ!
Oh yes please
Would love to see a Part 2 to this. "Joy To The World", "Mama Told Me Not To Come", "Money", "These Eyes", "Summer In The City", "Have A Cigar", "Breakdown", "Do It Again", "Top Of The World", "Miss You", "Eye In The Sky", "Pipeline", and "Sugar Sugar"
agreed!
A lot of these songs were actually done on a Hohner Pianet which sounds similar
I agree, that would be nice.
"These Eyes" wasn't played on a Wurlitzer. It was played on a Hohner Pianet, like The Beatles', "The Night Before".
Dreamer by Supertramp is a MUST on the Wurlitzer. Love this video as much as I love Wurlitzer!!! Great!
I remember Waylon Jennings once singing "They oughta give me the Wurlitzerprize for all the silver I let slide down the slot". That line reminds us that Wurlitzer is also famous for its jukeboxes. 😊
Yeah I think I saw that in a Wikipedia piece
Freddie hated keyboards and wurlitzers, John Deacon had to play that himself, playing the bass simultaneously by his left hand aka Ray Manzarek style :D
of course speaking about "You are my best friend"
Freddie didn't know better.
It's interesting because John couldn't sing and it was for his wife. Had he been able to sing he most certainly would have had lead vocal on it...so Freddie should have been grateful he was giving an opportunity to sing such a beautiful song.
Freddie didn't hate the piano since he played it on Bohemian Rapshody
@@Crunkboy415 Keyboards and Wurlitzer.
Can you read?
I had my guitar on my lap while watching this video. When you played Mercy mercy mercy, aw man. It was the first jazz song i learnt in my highschool jazz band. I instantly played along. Its been like 5 years since ive heard that tune.
Ray Charles in “The Blues Brothers” movie playing, “Shake Your Tail Feather “ - (may have been a Fender Rhodes he played.)
bluesbred3 - It was a Rhodes, I believe.
Yup, that's a Fender Rhodes
Ah man hitting all the soft spots in my heart. I could listen to those all day.
I love Supertramp too....brilliant wurlitzer and falsetto vocal.
Hearing melodies from Supertramp on this wonderful instrument makes me happy :)
This video reminded me that 'Where It's at' is my all-time favourite song
4:02 The fill did not disappoint!
Joe Zawinul wrote mercy mercy mercy. A very fine musical man he was. Rip
Oh, this was great! You've got a really nice touch. What a beautiful instrument.
Alex Ball I can smell a collaboration ... 😉
You need more rings and bracelets bro
I'm not a musician but I just love to watch you guys play on these classic instruments. I hope your business is going well, you have enormous potential with all that gear and brilliant musicians! Cheers!
Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" missing here - one of the most beautiful songs ever.
While it really sounds like a Wurlie to me, Get Back was played on a Suitcase Rhodes. You can see it in the video. So, substitute "So Into You" by Atlanta Rhythm Section.
Funny...he actually says "Billy Preston playing the Rhodes" at 4:46. Great substitute suggestion, though.
Legend. Brought back some great memories there. Thanks.
Ray Charles and Supertramp! Cool artists definitely!
I come back to this video every once and a while just because of this guys positive and fun attitude. Love it!
Doctor Mix, "awesome" you are playing all these songs with so much passion !! Greetings and "RESPECT"
from Germany : )
Just LOOOVE the Supertrump ones! So good! Makes me want to go right away to the keyboard and try it LOL
Supertrump would actually be a great name for a band lol
Siemon Blidener LOL Almost as good as Supertramp, sorry about that 😂
I used to love the way Supertramp would run that Wurly through a chorus-type effects box (at least I assume that's how they got that sound).
super trump.... can fly and save earth from war, sin, and sadness.....
!?
..
@@Meridian83West That or a Phase Shift Pedal.
Thank you Claudio for including the track listing in the video description! Going above and beyond as usual, never disappointing!
I love that song mercy mercy mercy!! Thank you for the intro to it - I was born in '82, so I was stuck with listening to whatever the radio was playing from past decades. I loved the 70s!!! Also, I liked Beck's stuff. My favorite song was "loser".
You forgot the intro to Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest
Great song)) Thank's for that
A few years ago, I sent an email to "Doc" Robinson of King Harvest, and asked him what instrument was used to play the opening of "Dancing In the Moonlight". He responded, "Aaaahhh, those magical notes! It was a Wurlitzer electric piano."
What a lovely fella - just discovered this channel, well done.
Iconic equipment+great songs+fun+music history+personal history+theory+music technique= good stuff
May I just say how rewatchable your videos are? Seen this one like 10 times
Hey man thanks so much for putting the song names as you play, that was my one critique with your past videos when demonstrating keyboards and synths, awesome improvement!
I have faith in music - 2019 when I hear you!
Loved all those song's ,now I realized it was the warmth of the wurlitzer electric piano that really evokes the emotion.👍👍
Seriously man you're one of the best on CZcams, love to hear you groovin' and see you having a great time! 👍😁
These are all great. My favorite Wurlitzer song is “Digital Love” by Daft Punk
Epic sound. Thanks for pulling it out for a jam. ✌️
Mercy, mercy, mercy. So nice! The other day a trio played on my town, i, ve never Heard It, since then i was searching It. Today i,ve seen doctor mix playing it and giving the name of this wonderful melody. Grazie Miller, Claudio
love the positivity bro! Im just now discovering how epic this piano is and had no idea there was so much history to it
Love it; just got my Reface CP and catching up on the Wirley!
Supertramp... talk about formative years!
Let's go on a nostalgic youtube sojourn..
The perfection of the Wurlie.
Excellent playing and vid.
Just found your channel man. I just started playing keys & you are my guide to all the keyboard sounds of my hero's. It would've taken me years to find all of this out!
Wurlitzer é simplesmente único!!!!! Instrumento fantástico!!!!! Ótimo vídeo sucesso 👏👏👏👏
Doctor Mix. Always the man in red❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great Video! Thank you so much. I played a Wurlitzer for a few gigs when I was young. What a cool electric piano of its day.
Great tunes, great tones, great memories! Keep them coming!
actually mercy mercy mercy is written by joe zawinul for cannonbal ;)
Ohhh! Wow YOU'RE 100% RIGHT!!!! Yes, I forgot!!! Well pointed out!!!!!!!!!!!! RESPECT
I would die without knowing that. Thanks for the information.
...Although most mainstream Pop/Rock fans from the U.S. would be more familiar with the remake of that song, which was a "hit" by the group The Buckinghams in 1967. It went to the #5 position on the Billboard "Hot 100 Chart" in August of that year. Finally, here is the "link" to the Wikipedia page for that song: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercy,_Mercy,_Mercy
@paul vorderwinkler It wasn't a Rhodes, Zawinul played a Wurlitzer 140b, same model as Ray Charles used. czcams.com/video/ICa1vUsIoqI/video.html 20.47
Nathan Downing - Zawinul probably did play a 140, but the definitive Ray Charles tone from ‘What I’d Say’ was the earlier 120, which had longer reeds and cruder action. The soundboards and reeds from the 140/145 were interchangeable with the later and best-known 200, so their sound was much closer. FWIW, the Fender Rhodes was initially available only as the bass version, with the 73 and 88 to follow in ‘66 or ‘67, well after ‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’ was originally penned.
Amazing video on my most favorite electric piano sound! My introduction to the Wurlitzer sound was through Supertramp, and good to know you love them too! I always wanted to play Goodbye Stranger on a real Wurlitzer, but now I have to be content with using just VSTs.
LOVE it! I was HOPING you'd do Goodbye Stranger, and there it was! Thanks! GREAT video!!!
That's too cool. That has made a lot of great tunes, thanks Dr.Mix!
WHAT?!?! .. no Bloody Well Right???? ..aside.. brilliant!
Quite right!
Wow - your Wurly is very well voiced! Great demo - thanks. Another classic is "Jeans On" - David Dundas. Bloody awesome song.
What a great sound! You’re a great player. 😊 This was so fun to watch. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Great playing, Supertramp is one of my favorite bands, great to hear it from you !
I remember this sound in the Alan Parsons Project songs.
bravo . suono suggestivo di suo, poi trattato dagli APP era Epico
Eye in the Sky, Prime Time, both used the Wurlitzer.
@@mikos.o187 I think they used a Rhodes on I Robot.
What goes up.
Saga also used it extensively on their first album. Check out "Tired World (Chapter 6)" and "Give 'em the Money", where the combination of Wurlitzer and synths creates a really dark atmosphere.
My favorite instrument for sound #1 wurlitzer #2 vox continental #3 minimoog. Thanks for the video.
The good doctor, the cure for any ills. I watch your videos, I feel joy. Great wurli playing, Grazie!!
Well done!! 2 songs of Supertramp.. Fantastic!!
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" is a jazz song written by Joe Zawinul in 1966 for Julian "Cannonball" Adderley
This is the end result of music training and having talent.
Fantastic video!!! This instrument brings so much joy. Thank you!!
Thanks for this trip back down memory lane! Keep those videos coming.
Totally downplayed your Ray Charles rendition... you nailed it.
Your Wurli sounds KILLER! Seems like it's got more bark/bite than normal.. Gotta be running it into a tube amp or something. It's voiced really well. 👍👍
I have a rare colored Avocado Green top 200a from 1976 myself. Love me some Wurli's! 😎
Steely Dan tunes: Chained Lightening, Black Friday.. A couple of my favorites.
A lot of people get the Wurli & Pianet mixed up.. They sound real similar, yet they have their own thing going on.
Fantastic, excellent performance Dr Mix, you are GREAT.
So great man. Thanks for a wonderful educational and enjoyable presentation full of love.
Supertramp ❤️
I liked when you played another song by "The Supertramp."
The Wurliter is one of their trademark sounds.
That was excellent! Even Supertramp!!!! Two songs!!!!!!!! Love this.
This piano and hammond organ are my favourite, i love the old analogic sound ❤️
Rita Coolidge used this keyboard on "Nice Feeling" in 1971. Also Sheryl Crow used this on All I Want To Do
I actually really like your singing voice.
Thanks!!
For what you’re doing, your singing voice is fine. You have a decent falsetto and you’re on pitch.
Great rendition of Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!!
I was waiting for "Mama told me not to Come" late 60's Whirly 3 Dog Night/ Randy Newman classic. Great video!
Money, Pink Floyd
The electric piano is not integral to the song.
@@beback_ That's debatable.
Rick Wright's electric piano was integral in nearly all floyd songs. In fact there would be no floyd 'sound' without Rick Wright's keyboard.
I think maybe "not integral" is an inaccurate way to describe what you were trying to say. It's definitely not the main motif, melody, lead, etc. But it is integral because it acts like the punctuation and structural support to the song. Without that call and response harmony section and the way its panned you have a highly repetitive bass line that gets old real quick (like a run on sentence). Also just as a harmony section the keyboard and guitar provide context and support to the key changes and melody.
While the song is highly melodic and rhythmic, it still relies on harmony for structure and to remain listenable.
Mercy Mercy Mercy was written by the late great Joe Zawinul who played the Wurlitzer.
Great playing, and the way you get into the music is real. You play all the genres with equal skill.
What an intro! Had me smiling immediately! Keep up the fun vibes videos!
I owned one of these for years when I was touring professionally as a musician. Loved the tone but it was a serious pain in the ass because it kept breaking reeds.
lol, reeds. How long ago was that?
Not only a great sounding instrument.. I really love it's key-action.. It plays a bit lighter than a Rhodes or other weigthed keybeds.. Not quite as light as semi-weighted synthkeys.. it's just different and very inspiring.. :-) Great playing btw!! (Y)
Never realised I liked the Wurlitzer sound but now you've shown all this good music used it I definitely do.
Sounds killer thanks for making
"I cannot play it like Ray Charles", ...plays it just like Ray Charles.
Uh, listen to the record before you make such a statement.
@@horowizard uh. Fuuuuuuk you.
@@SteveStone505 Fuck you too.
Love you guys
Fuck me
It's interesting. Wurlitzer sounds like controlled electric buzz.
Almost like fuzz tone
Wonderful sound. Fantastic Wurly. Great 60's and 70's Memories.
Great memories from these songs! Love it!
The Wurlitzer (the model 200a like you have) was apparently Donny Hathaway's favorite keyboard. You can hear it on his songs like "The Ghetto" and "This Christmas" (not the solo part but the accompaniment).
Bobby Reynolds I could be wrong, but I was pretty sure that Donny Hathaway was playing a Rhodes piano on This Christmas
@@Steadman711 I suppose that could have been a Rhodes on "This Christmas", but on hits like "The Ghetto" and his famous live album in 1972, I'm pretty sure that was a Wurly. You can actually see what looks like a 200a on the cover of the live album.
You forget to mention one of this pianos most famous appearance which was Ray Charles doing shake your tail feather in the Blues Brothers movie
I was just about to post the exact same thing and Riders on The Storm by the Doors. Still, a great video :)
That one is on the Rhodes. I'll do a Rhodes one, no worries ;)
That's a Rhodes by fender mate. Much softer and less attack.
And that is why I'm a guitarist/bass player by trade :)
Similar sound, but it’s on a Rhodes!
EDIT: Awe I see that was already covered!
Wow if I could play like that I would never leave the house!!! Loving Mercy Mercy Mercy top chops 👍😎
Great video - iconic Wurlitzer hits!
I love the Wurly much more than the Rhodes.
They both have their place. The Wurly has its sound that is unmistakable and a necessary part of the songs they're played on, but the Rhodes also has its place and overall I think the Rhodes is a sweeter sounding instrument.
Joy to the World (3 Dog Night), These Eyes (The Guess Who), Happy (Pharell) ...
Hohner Pianet N was used for Joy to the World and These Eyes.
Interesting
@@drakejennings8788
These Eyes was the Pianet but Joy To The World was a Wurlie.
I love this channel, man! Thanks a million. Grazie
what a beautiful warm tone
