The unplanned trips are often the most memorable! Thanks for sharing, Dwaine - and so lovely to see your daughter as well. Would love to hear what study choices she's making since she's such a great artist.

Yeah it was a great adventure even though it was completely unplanned! Its weird you mention that, they are not entirely sure they want to go the college route. I would really prefer they knock that out as QUICKLY as possible BUT at the same time if they chose a "different" path (like welding) that could work too!

Great video Duane with you and your daughter. Amazing scenery. That meal looked yummy - and that cafe/restaurant with those timeless photos on the wall looked like it's been around for a long time. So glad you were able to locate accommodation for the night.

It really was a great meal! There was A LOT of history in that place - and considering all the old westerns were made out there it makes sense. We REALLY lucked out with the lodging - we ended up saying at the Quality Inn and it was probably one of the more nicer ones we've stayed in.

Honestly Godzilla the food was actually pretty amazing. The next day we went to another restaurant and it was equally impressive!

Nice to see you again. It's been a long time. The trip didn't go so well. The wind up there can be pretty unforgiving. Sorry you didn't get to camp out👍Like 6

Thanks man I really appreciate that! Yeah the wind was brutal. I want to try again. But see if I can find something in the middle nestled in the rocks. I didn’t go all through there so not sure if it would have been all occupied or not. Later in the trip we did get to camp (on the coast) so that was cool.

Duane! Dude!! First off great to see you back on.. second: never been to ether of those locations but I need to check them out, never even herd of fossil falls but now I want to go… third: name that restaurant! I love food stops like that.. and lastly.. love to see you spending time with your daughter, trips are always better when you can spend those long drives passing down wisdom to the younger ones. Look forward to see where this trip takes you, you got the no camping road blocks out of the way, hopefully is smooth sailing the rest of the trip.

Thanks so much I really appreciate the kid words and checking things out. The Restaurant was Mt. Whitney Restaurant. It was AMAZING! Honestly I everywhere we ate in that town was great. The next morning we ended up going to the Alabama Hills Cafe & Bakery for breakfast and it was VERY good! We ended up putting A LOT of miles down on that trip and it was a lot of fun! I hope to have the next part up soon.

You know it really does grow on you after a while! I'm beginning to enjoy the desert again! But isn't this environment similar to where you are?

@@dustyroaddestinations South Africa has such a varied climate but that sort of landscape can be found in the northern Cape and in Namibia on the West coast. We have the Kalahari desert but it's not a true desert rather a dry landscape peppered with small thorn bushes. I'll dig up some old photos of our camping trips when the kids were young, magic times and great memories.
One trip that we often talk about was when we drove into Botswana and as the sun was going lower on the horizon we set up camp and the kids played in the road we had just driven on, the sand was soft, powdery and deep 😁

Wow thanks so much Steve I really appreciate that! I was hoping to head out this weekend but the winds have pushed that idea down for now. I'd love to catch up and chat with you one of these days!

The footage is in the bin just have to sit down and start the edit! If I don't head out to Jawbone Canyon tomorrow I might work on it tomorrow. Otherwise I plan to sleep under the stars by myself - actually just took Monday off to try and facilitate that! If you can send me an email - since you found the other channel just send it to duane@dadsurvivingdivorce.com - although I do think the duane@duanerobert.com one works as well.
