- Well, this is one I've been just itching to feed into GarageBand, and I have to say that I actually surprised myself with how it sounds. I think it's the cymbals that make it. It took all weekend to make. The first half is mostly my own variations, but the second half is as accurate to the original as I can remember it (with a few creative liberties, of course...). Note also the high strings melody heard only in High Winds. Any comments/suggestions/criticisms?

Note: I'm also currently separated from my piano keyboard, so my apologies if the piano in this seems stiffer than in the Edward's Exploit one.
This is by far, the best danger theme in ANY kids show, EVER!!!!!!!
If I heard this on audio form alone (e.g. not through CZcams) I would never have thought this was from a kids' show! It's so atmospheric!
eisemanrenyardjake Thank you! I'm planning on eventually re-covering this theme anyway - I don't like how the bridge came out - but the show this is originally from is awesome! You should totally check it out if you haven't already: TVSproductions82 has all 13 episodes in the best quality available (considering we only have aging VHS tapes and rare recordings of the original broadcasts to go by...) ;-D
MKtheinstrumentalist The show is awesome; I remember it from my childhood fondly. Thanks to CZcams, I've been able to see it again quite easily online, though not enough friends of mine know what I'm talking about if I mention it when we chat about programmes we watched as kids. This music alone has given me an inspiration for the feel of part of a score for a synchronised-swimming show I'm trying to write (different melody, but the same atmosphere) and there are several kids' programmes I'm in the process of writing, that had inspiration from Tugs in various aspects
Ooh, are you actually "in the industry"? I'm planning on joining the ranks myself when I'm older - if I can. :-D
One thing though: Do you keep backups/copies of all your compositions? Rumor has it that Mike O'Donnel and Junior Campbell have barely any trace of their 20-odd years of work left: The only thing that remains of the official TUGS soundtrack is an early demo of the opening that Junior found. :-P
MKtheinstrumentalist I'm in the very early stages of the industry; acted in several stage-shows and an online sketch-series, and I've got a meeting later this month with an animation company regarding 1 of my kids' programmes. I'm not so much a musician, per-say, but I sometimes compose and hum the new tunes into a special tape and sound-file on my mobile phone, if they count as back-up copies! The musical I wanted a score for isn't my own story, but I have met with the original author, who has heard of my plans to adapt her work as a synchronised-swimming show, and seems eager to work with me on it in the near future. However, as 1 of the more ambitious works, the author has advised me to start off with smaller, simpler productions, and "climb the ladder", so it's a way off. Maybe I could work with you on productions in years to come.....

To be perfectly honest, that's the only pat of this version I still actually like: I consider this my worst theme so far, I'm going to reorchestrate if and when I have the time. :-P Glad you like it though! :-D
Well, it's hard to deny that this particular rendition isn't exactly my favourite. It feels like the best part (the synth that goes all over the place to build up the tension...uh, how do I put it...the bit that goes "DO! Da, dadadadada DO da, dadadadada") ) has been put in the background when it should be easier to hear.
But it's still good. Better than what I can produce, really. I haven't got a talent for music, as much as I wish I did :P
Yes, I know what you mean, and that's exactly the part I don't like, in addition to the major transition in brass which was good at the time but now I think it sounds pathetic. XD
MKtheinstrumentalist I wouldn't call it pathetic by any means :P
But it's nice to know you want to improve it. I look forward to hearing V2 sometime :D

Well Oliver's theme was probably inspired by the TUGS theme
The goods engine scene, but with the mid sodor mining engine, running on a small tramway in the path of a runaway barge

the second season would've been in my eyes filled with more darker stories (in vain to ghosts and munitions), more explosions, maybe even more characters added who knows.
