  • I played this song in my junior high school's concert band in 7th grade in May 2007. This was one of the best songs that I have ever played ever since I began playing in my elementary school's band in 2004. This is not a recording that my school's band played in 2007. This is the original song composed by Samuel Hazo. Enjoy!
    NOTE: I do NOT claim ownership to the audio within this video. All credit goes to Wingert-Jones Publications. :-)

    I played this song in band during a really difficult time in my life where alot of changes were happening. The songs title means "a new and better change". I was able to connect to it on a deeply emotional level and this song will stay in my heart as the song that changed my outlook of my year and my life.

    fun fact! this was written for a high school in the area where he grew up, I actually attend this high school and we play this every year at graduation. There's parts of it that are pulled from our Alma Mater. I had no idea Sam Hazo was so well known, I'm so excited to see other bands all over the place playing his music!!

    supposibly there are three parts to this song. part one gives you a feeling of rememberance. the second part is a feeling of reconstruction and rebuilding of times since past. the third is a feeling of a new begining.

    Sam Hazo came to my school today and worked with us because our symphonic band is playing this and our wind ensamble is playing arabesque...he is the most amazing person i have ever met! He made our band sound like a college band after one hour of work. He told us meaningful stories, and he gave us inspiration to play this song to our best abillity. If anyone of you ever get the chance to meet mr.Hazo, you will LOVE him!!!! Me and my band are VERY lucky to have had this oppertunity!

    I played this in 8th grade for my spring concert and still to this day it is my favorite piece I have played besides maybe Four A Remix of Beethoven. It was written for Upper St. Clair High School in Pennsylvania which is the rival school of Mount. Lebanon the high school I would have gone to if I had stayed in Pennsylvania.

    I'm playing this in band and it's beyond doubt one of the most majestic pieces I've ever had the pleasure of playing. The 2nd clarinet part is really simple, so as I'm playing, I get to listen to others more and that makes it all the more fun. The trash can part at measure 49 really brings this piece to life, I should say, but in my opinion, there is no single best part since all of it is an emotional ride from start to finish. Thank you, Mr. Hazo, and thank you to the saint who took the trouble to post this ^-^

    1. me too. I played it once as a 7th grader; I played bells. I loved it. The second time was my senior year in highs chool (we just had the concert less than a month ago). This time I played snare throughout the whole song. at 2:40 I played a snare/ride combo, and at 3:42 I played a snare/temple block combo.
    3. I still have the mallet and perc. 1 parts :] I have the "original" from 7th grade, and a copy of this year's.

    A friend told me we may be playing this in band. We just played Solas Ane. I play bass clarinet. I'm kinda sad this one has no place where bass clarinet takes the bass by itself because, seeing as I'm the onlyest bass clarinet in the band, I shone. And I was able to play Solas Ane on bass clarinet after five months because I just started playing in October :3

    Hazo's web site says it's a grade 3-1/2 piece. But it also says it was the Winner of the 2001 National Band Association Merrill Jones Composition Award for High School Level Music (Grade III/IV). :) And, I think this was written for a school Hazo had attended in younger days, Upper St. Clair High School.

    we've played all kinds of exciting songs, but I have to say, this is my favorite. I think it's because I started playing drums in 6th grade, so learning the mallet part was pretty challenging. Looking back on it, today, as section leader... I had so many pleasant memories teaching the parts to the younger drummers who had just began learning to play ;]

  • @TheSentientCloud

    @DarkArtsPrincess15 II QUI NON PROFICIT DEFICIT... he who does not progress weakens. Very true. :D I love this song too. I most probably will be recordin it when we play it (against the rules but so wat I tape takeoffs in planes) and I will upload it, but it will sound very tromboney. What part dpo you play? I play 3rd trombone. Its weird since sometimes I am in a higher chair and sometimes I am in a lower chair. There is a low note that I don't know how to play-- the LOWEST note on there Eb

  • @tinyrsdimplepi
    @tinyrsdimplepi Před 13 lety

    @Kidagirl5 yeah but if you play Solas Ane, since you're the only bass clarinet, you have quite a few bass solos. In fact you would have a really big one with a piccolo/flute in the very beginning. And my band is really small, like, we have 3 tubas, one Bari sax, 5 euphoniums/baritones, and 3 tbones on bass line so I usually end up with the bass solos which is pretty cool. And since I'm pretty much the only one in tune everyone usually tunes off of me if not a tuba :3

  • @trumppy1
    @trumppy1 Před 13 lety

    @Mrtechguy94 coming from somebody who has played this song before...it is not advanced. it might say level 5 but its pretty easy literature. sometimes songs get higher levels because of range..but this song is easy. play it in junior high all you want but most of the Hazo songs i've played arent techically "advanced" its just a high range. ANY band can work on a song for half a damn year and still play it. we only had 6 rehearsals and perfected it. EAT IT!!!

    @trumppy1: songs aren't rated as harder just because of their technicality. They might be a jr high level for fingerings and other techniques, but it requires more advanced musicality. And that is the case with most of hazo's music; the pieces require a lot more emotion and expression than other pieces
