This is a kind of torture that is underlooked.
Imagine being forced to work out at the gym until you passed out of exhaustion.
Wasnât that essentially what they did on âThe Biggest Loserâ?
You not seen conan the barbarian? It's how Arnie was made
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris worked out like this
Don't forget the lifting weights.
Yea but imagine the gains
During the Victorian era, it was essentially a crime just to be poor. Once you got out of jail, there was absolutely no assistance to improving the inmate's living conditions or job opportunities, meaning that you would easily end up back in there in a week or so, repeating the cycle for years on end.
They had or potentially still have vagrancy laws in the south, some are strict like if you don't have money you are a vagrant and then jailed
Nothing ever changes i guess.
â@@awayforthewin1325it's an capitalist idea which mostly didn't exist before that
@@tomlxyz ? the homeless have always been persecuted
The ability of humans to invent ways in which to treat other living beings inhumanely is staggering. At least it provides you with an endless well of subject matter...
Nice to see the return of the "worst punishment series", I watched all the videos in the series. Cool stuff.
The workhouse, the alms house and the jail/prison had the similar thought of keeping inmates busy. This was done in order to get people to stay out of trouble, or stay self sufficient and productive. The problem was the inmates of the alms and workhouses often were older or infirm with no family to help take care of them.
There's nothing wrong with forcing prisoners to do manual labor, so long as it's not too cruel. By cruel, I mean that seriously endangers inmates lives.
L
Thatâs what I tried to tell my gym teacher. (That exercise was killing me)
Huh
@@gerrysosa the video title. I tried telling my gym teacher that it was the worst punishment in historyđ
đ€Ł
I spent a couple of years working for Amazon, and unlike some others, I survived. 12 hour shifts, and on average depending on which job I was doing, I was either walking 30+ miles per day (Re-supplying workstations with boxes) , or if I was on order picking, I'd do about 2300 squats per shift. I spoke to the HR department about the chronic pain problem that I was experiencing, and their response was 'That is the nature of the job, if you don't like it, leave'. Eventually I became dependent on strong painkillers, and that progressed to a real drug addiction after I quit working there. May as well just have been on a treadmill!
jeez u okay man?
@@bostonbyington6666 I'm OK now.....5 years later, and having had to do 2 weeks in a residential rehab to detox from my drug addiction. Still got leg problems that relate to working there though. I should have quit (the job)about a year before I did!
how much did they pay you for all of this
@@precious1918 Think it was about ÂŁ12 per hour.
I can already see the video about Amazon's working conditions next century.
I also thought about this one. But in a modern world where prisoners are placed on stationary bikes and their work would generate elecetricity either for the prison or for a city and would earn incentives for electricity generated. âĄâĄâĄ
Sounds like the episode in black mirror, 15 million merits.
You're one of the best Animators I've ever seen you explain to the way that even the slow minded people will get it quick
You like him then check out thouty2 you will definitely like him
Are you kidding? They're one of the worst animators I've ever seen. They just have a method of producing in QUANTITY, not quality, they're popular because they maintain quality in the message of the video rather than the quality of the animation itself. But the quality of the animation is so bad, they can't even animate anyone talking.
Dude: what if we made prisoners do productive work thatd benefit them instead of having them sit around?
Prisons: so we should torture prisoners and get free laborout of it? Genius
Or at least to earn their keep.
This would help produce electricity for the prison at least lol
Lol Thoughty2 did a video on this yesterday
Same
2 artistâs debuted âDennis the Menaceâ cartoons on the same day 4000 miles apart and didnât know it.
@@EJBing wait. What?!
About to comment the same thing.
I can't tell sometimes because Thoughty2 likes to change the thumbnail and title every 5 seconds, it's annoying sometimes lol
So this is what Scrooge meant when he asked if the treadmill is in full vigor.
True thank you I never realized that
the prison managers: the treadmill is a great exercise. the prisoners must love it, right?
the prisoner: (dead on the floor)
I picture family guy making a cut-away with this (if they havenât already)
The prisons STILL have a lot of people there for minor reasons. Such as mere possession of marijuana despite not having committed any real crimes, or the "crime" of running out of money when he is required to pay an annuity known as "child support".
So where are all these channels getting ideas to make videos? This has happened multiple times where 2 or 3 big channels will make a video on the exact same very specific topic and post them in days or hours of each other. Both channels obviously don't make the videos over night so are they looking at the same list, or getting information from some research company on topics people would find interesting? This has happened way often to be a coincidence
It honestly is a coincidence. I had it scheduled for 6pm last night but the video before performed well so I moved it to today. I donât pay attention to what others are posting and when.
@@TheInfographicsShow Ok
@@TheInfographicsShow that is understandable! Thank you for the clarification đ
@@TheInfographicsShow Also respects since you actually answer comments, cheers.
I guess maybe like google news recommendations and CZcams recommendations
Strap a generator to the treadmill, free, eco-friendly, renewable electricity for the 21st century, seeing as we have plenty criminals to "employ"... :P
Doubt the electricy produced would be that significant.
Great idea.
I have a treadmill in my spare room...
It's used to pile stuff on..
And this time around, treadmills are seem by some as âpunishmentâ for letting themselves get really soft. As if having clothes that no longer fit wasnât already âpunishmentâ enough.
The treadmill punished reminds me of a fun thing I've seen (and played on) in a playground
It was a basically a barrel on it's side with a horizontal bar above it. You would hold onto the horizontal bar and run on top of the barrel. (The barrel also doesn't move on its own)
As a older man with bad knees the idea of the treadmill makes my knees hurt just thinking about it. I wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes. Much less an hour or even a day.
I always knew the treadmill was designed for torture
What is awful and we constantly seem to keep doing, is perverting a meaningful good. Whoever said the idle hands leads to fights & mischief is correct, but rather than meaningless labor or torture, having meaningful jobs and skills training w/ earned skilllevels (even having lifers potentially help teach new inmates); letting inmates pick the area of interest, and oversight to insure it isnât abused by guards.
This would be the best method and would help build valuable skills for those who will be released to help reduce being reincarcerated.
Great ideas , however , they would cut into the profits of the prison industry.
This needs to come back.
I remember learning about this. I thought it was pretty forward-thinking for itâs time. Of course, Iâm glad itâs no longer instituted as a punishment, since I donât think itâd be good for the modern era.
Fact. Being fit is a modern day crime
Hey I just had a question could you possibly do a video on the felony action squad just because my great uncle started it and I thought it would be fun to learn more about it through this channel
I feel highly refreshed, positive, cheerful after watching this beneficial video which I will always think about.
The writer suggested attaching dynamo electric machines to it, âthatâs just slavery with extra stepsâ
I love it! Should be installed in every school across the world. Get any question wrong, off to the treadmills they go!
Love how two accounts had the same idea for a video and also happened to post them within a day.
Now days I torture myself on stair stepper at the gym.
Wow! Talk about being "Whipped into shape"!
So we have some thoughty2 and infographics fans here....nicee
Funny how often you guys have started making these kind of videos that are mysteriously close in topic to recent uploads from Thoughty2
I was thinking that too. A bit odd...
For perspective, I climbed up and down just over 10,000 feet of stairs in about 8 hours. Super hard to do, harder than a marathon.
I love this channel
no you dont

Thank you.
I live in Northallerton, never thought id hear it on a youtube video
Reminds me of that scene in conan the barbarian. Where he is ends up being so strong cause he was the last one on it.
Saying they should always be moving reminds me of the spinning jail cell

This is why I don't exercise. No treadmill for me lol
Exercise is good for you. It helps you live longer. It makes you feel great and healthy. Itâs good for you physically and mentally. If it hurts, that means itâs working. Try it. You will love it.
Is this a re-upload? Thought I saw this yesterday already
Thoughty2 made a video on the same topic
@@Mouritzeen I see! No wonder it's kinda familiar
Well at least those treadmills kept them in shape. Now they have free gyms in prisons to keep them fit.
Now we pay $10 plus a month to do this to ourselves
These days, prisoners make money for their labors... Sure, pennies to the dollar, but that also helps with the room and board. The mistake with the treadmill as punishment was that it wasn't capitalized better. Also, everyone knows that a healthy, well-feed prisoner is best for whatever labor they are required to do.
I feel like thoughty2 just came out with this same episode
I saw this device in a biography about Oscar Wilde, with the implication that it wrecked his health.
we need to bring those back.
Amen
just saw thoughty2âs video on this yesterday
Do you guys watch these videos than marvel at the fact that this is the human mind the concept of something being in your mind and being able yo create it or live it out just makes me happy to be a human . We are at the top it feels good knowing the potential of thoughts put into action . Nit saying what this dude did was good but humans are the most dangerous animal
Seems like a good workout
We need these today
Oh yeah. I remember that, on Ted-Ed, I never ever walked on a treadmill, but my old partner did, she does not know this, heh.
You must be my treadmill....cause you cause me indescribable pain but I can't stop
Thoughty2 did video on this yesterday lol
Fact check: The apprenticeship system in Jamaica ended in 1838 after which the indentured services started. You mixed up the date. Source: Jamaica history student.
This system should be reintroduced to prisons to help them produce at least part of their own energy. Build a giant treadmill, hitch it up to a huge electricity generator, every prisoner in the prison who is able to does, say, an hour, on the wheel with a 15 minute break. The prisons would reduce a portion of their energy consumption, replacing it with the energy produced on site.
"And rock hard glutes" đ

This is going to sound nuts, but with some fine tuning and adding some responsibility and common sense, this could be a worth while application. A functional power source with no cost and no carbon emissions.
And I thought we were talking about planet fitness
Bring this back. Ppl should fear the repercussions of committing crimes.
This is so scary man

The thumbnail says "Punshments" btw
I feel like anyone wanting to implement any change in prisons needs to live that life for a while before making the decision.
âSin-cohpâ
Why don't they just make a giant one that you could safely walk on?
