    The absolute best debunking of so many of the lies audiophiles are told is the complete lack of any proof to back it up. It's painfully simple... If you cant get verification from reputable sources (not the manufacturer's websites) then don't believe it.

    Ethan is an absolute treasure. I was hoping that this conversation might have veered into power supplies at some point- obviously the expensive power cables are nonsense, but I’m curious what his thoughts are on power supply design (ala linear vs. modern switching) and implementation. I suppose he’s got a deep enough body of work that he’s probably written about it somewhere I can go find.

    Love conversation. Simple truth always eye opening. ☺️👍🙏
    But to understand all this you need a lot of not only audio listening experience, but an engeneering too. So such a knowlege Ethan sharing is a diamond. Thanks a lot!
    And a bit of my experience: You always need power cables depending on power your system use. Maybe slightly heavier to avoid heatup. Maybe some quality power filters (you must know what is inside). Not more than that.
    Okay, maybe you need some kind of connection structure and shielding, but it definitely not worth 1000+ euros cables. It's all fake.
    Better to invest into wave cancellation/damping/diffusive materials and your monitor vibration stands, to break unneeded seismic power exchange between monitors and your table or stands, to improve your overall listening experience.

    Time for Ethan to retire. OMG, power cables? talk about beating a dead horse. And you both are wrong about magical stones, they do make a difference, its called another object in the room with more reflections, why anyone would want that is another thing. On analog vs digital you both are just wrong, just because a plugin says in emulates analog device X doesn't mean it actually does. Unless you have the algorithms and know how they work, what their advantages and disadvantages are, you frankly have little to no business talking about it. Its pretty rare for anyone to have the knowledge of both domains to actually know enough on both analog and digital systems to make any claims at all that are credible. If you've done any real DSP development you learn quickly what the limitations and flaws of the various algorithms are and that there are differences that can't be compensated for. Which sounds better and if it matters is completely subjective and situational. Null tests are not the holy grail when comparing analog to digital as they never truly null. The only place where null tests are really effective is in digital vs digital comparisons in the box. Blind tests are similar there are to many factors that can be accounted for such as lister skill. A non-trained listener may not hear the difference but a trained listener might. The arguments in the video assume that everything involved is 100% understood and can be measured at 100% resolution, nether one of those assumptions is true, new discoveries are made, new algorithms are found, etc. ROFL, nobody buys a high end pre-amp for clean sound, they buy it for the opposite! The point to committing to a sound and chain early is it changes how the musician plays, they may lean into a note more if there is compression, etc, etc, etc. and the idea is you get a better performance. Yah, it might be nice to change stuff later in the mix but any engineer worth anything knows getting the best performance is far more important than a little bit of flexibility at the mixing desk. OMG, of course you can hear phase!!!!! It just requires two signals before you can. And of course stacking matters!! No one would ever put just an eq on every channel vs an eq at the end, the eq on every channel sometimes has a compressor on one channel after the eq, etc. so its a completely valid approach. Jitter is definitely an issue especially on the low end with high transient material where it can cause phase issues, again its situation specific. Jitter won't matter if the track has a single kick drum, it may matter if there are multiple that need to play at the same time, especially when combining analog signals with midi drum machines with VSTi's, etc. Its even a bigger issue in the midi domain and real time midi messages.

    • @dylanjastle
      @dylanjastle Před měsícem +1

      Jordan Valeriot from the hardcore music studio CZcams channel has made a couple cool analogue vs digital emulation shootout videos. He got lots of famous and high skill music producers to listen and try to pick out the analogue mix/track etc. Most of them did correctly pick the analogue choice, but all of them said it was so close than it didn’t matter.
      Use a USB interface with real time DSP if you want the performer to monitor with some compression, eq, reverb, etc.
      Arguing about stuff like this is pointless these days. It’s becoming more and more obvious what matters and what is snake oil.
