Great footage of downtown. I grew up here, and still very familiar. Been some change, but most of it was just minor cosmetic upgrades. Downtown was never ever dumpy, and the Vista has great open city views. Downtown real estate can be pricey, especially in the Heathwood and Shandon areas. You're looking at at least $500K to $1 million+. NE is more affordable and just as nice, but still a good 12-mile drive to downtown area.
What I miss the most are the restaurants that are long gone (both in downtown and in NE) - Elite Epicurean, Swain's, Garibaldi's, Applegate's Landing, Stellini's, Collaro's, Harper's, Julie's, and Annabelle's.
Some malls are gone, or will be - downtown Richland Mall is about to be demolished for new apartment complexes. This mall was never "jumping" since it opened in 1994 because the rents were too high, so it makes sense. Woodhill Mall is long gone. Columbia Mall got a nice upgrade and has always been fun for kids. This one in particular was extremely dangerous in the '80s-early '90s. Had its own police station! ☹
Of note: I would say one of the biggest changes was that the entire hospital system (which used to be Palmetto Health) was bought out by Prisma in 2017. This was *NOT* for the better.
All in all, Columbia - like any city - has its pluses and minuses. Personally, I think it has more pluses.

I liked it! It's smaller than I thought. But it was pretty clean and trendy. It seems very similar to Greenville, SC.
