  • While in Scotland we drove from Edinburgh out to the Isle of Skye. Along the way we visit Urquhart Castle, the Fairy Glen, the Quiraing and Eilean Donan Castle. We stay in some cute country hotels with delicious food and soak up the Scottish highlands. Road tripping from Edinburgh to Skye on the opposite side of the road and car was an adventure!

    TIP FOR VISITORS: I know this is far too late to be of use to you but if it helps you or other travellers on future visits to the UK, please note that the penalty for not wearing a seatbelt in the UK, drivers and passengers included (even if sitting in the back due to issues like the "flying granny" effect on the passenger in front), is an on the spot fine of £100 (e.g., @1:50 and @2:20). 🙂 Enjoying your videos, by the way. 😄

    This was exactly the video I was looking for!:-) I’m dragging my little family of four there in June. Will be flying into Inverness, arriving early in the morning and driving down to Oban to take the ferry to the little outer Hebrides islands including Iona and Stafa. Then driving up to Skye and actually planning to backpack the Skye trail. Taking a bus from Portree and getting dropped off at the northern end, hiking and camping along the Trotternish Ridge. I think my husband and I will both be a little nervous about the driving. We’re pretty happy that for four days will just be hiking it. The trail is 80 miles and we’re only doing 40 back to Portree, then driving up to the northern tip of the mainland to take a ferry to Orkney And backpack around up there some. It will be a great way to save money, but we are staying in a couple of hostels and a couple of B&Bs. I’m so excited. I have a couple of questions :-) we got each other a drone for Christmas so we could capture some of the epic landscape from above. Do you know if any of the locations you found on sky or prohibiting drones? It looked like you guys had captured some drone footage of some parts, but not others, so I thought you might know. :-) Thank you so much for the video! I love that you took your baby with you. Don’t stop exploring!✌🏼

    • @AdamandMadalyn
      @AdamandMadalyn  Před rokem +1

      Sounds like quite the trip! In terms of drone, be sure to register your drone with the UK. They have resources on where you can fly it. Based on my research, I believe everywhere I took mine up was legal. I always try to follow the rules.

    Haha the legend of Nessie is MUCH older than photoshop or the internet. When travelling around Scotland it's really essential to read up on the history of the places and phenomenons you are visiting to get something othernthan views from it. Also imo talking to the locals is imperative to the experience and getting all the local lore and insider tips on what walks to take, what's really worth seeing, and details that aren't marketed in generic sightseeing pamphlets.
    I always stayed in places run by locals so I could make sure to make those connections.
    There's alot more of interest just under the surface of it all. It's a culture with alot of appreciation for the mystic, history and nature.

    We were in Scotland in 2018 and so enjoyed ourselves we planned a return trip in 2021. That didn't happen because of COVID restrictions on travel. We are so excited to go back this year, in the Summer of 2023, so I am drinking up the atmosphere from your videos. We have made most of our bookings more than 6 months in advance, but are also trying to keep a little flexible on what we see and do. I love photography and filming but wasn't sure if I should take my drone or not. I'm slightly disabled now so have to use a hiking pole most of the time and be careful on uneven ground. And there's a lot of that in Scotland! But the walks you can take and the views are just fantastic. So it's a bit of a decision working out what gear I can practically manage and how much my companions may or may not be able to help with. I guess you weren't traveling that light yourselves with a little one to care for!

    • @AdamandMadalyn
      @AdamandMadalyn  Před rokem +1

    • @AdamandMadalyn
      @AdamandMadalyn  Před 2 měsíci

      We had our at the time 4 month old, so we didn’t get too far off the beaten path. Isle of Skye gets tons of rain, so I would recommend a second pair of shoes and a plan for dirty shoes in your car, so a pair of hiking shoes might be a solid choice to pack, especially if you want to go further in some of the areas than we did
