What thread sealant is safe to use on the transfer case? Also can I use the same thread sealant on the rear/front diffs?

The actual fluid the transfer case calls for is a nissan transmission fluid D3M. Comes in a standard 1qt oil bottle, but made by nissan, with nissan label on the front

Amsoil fluid is 10times better fluid. Transmission takes the same fluid. Transmission with amsoil fluid started shifting much better.

Is the transfer case working when the truck is in 2wd? Wearing out the lubricant?

To my understanding the transfer case is only running input shaft so its doesn't run the whole transfer case fully until it's locked. So it runs at all times but partially not all gears inside are engaged in 2wd
