Direct tried putting a $999.99 version of a card.
When there were copies below $10
did it to me the other month put thing cost 2500 when i found it for 5 from some one else
Lmao they’re shilling it so hard that they want you to buy the HIGH END printing
That just happened to me they tried charging $999 for a card with a .10 version
I seen the dircect feature and saw that it was more expensive and decided that I'm just gonna pick order and wait for multiple packages
Cart optimizer will prioritize TCGplayer Direct over maxing free shipping for a smaller store.
As a direct seller, I must say that one of the reasons direct sellers need to charge more for cards is because the fees are very steep. When I sell a card from directly myself, I charge 1.29 shipping, and any orders over $25 or so get a bubble mailer with tracking, otherwise shipped with an envelope. Doing this, I keep about 80-85% of the value of the cards I sold. When I use direct, for cards under $25, I usually keep only about 50% (any card under $3 we only get half of the card's price when it sells) to 70% (For example, I net $3 on a $5 card sale with direct).
I’ve never been a fan, I’ve been avoiding Direct eligible cards for a couple years, they’re too expensive and they actually make ordering more difficult if some cards are and some cards aren’t Direct.
Yup, why I just individually buy from sellers
I saw a Demon of Loathing listed for $128,000 last week. It's back down to under $0.30, but that was a bit extreme
I saw Foil Mayhem Devil through direct at 9,999.99 yesterday...
I've seen lower condition cards going for absurd prices. Much higher than NM/LP versions for some reason. The tcgplayer system is flawed.
I'm honestly tired of the market manipulation caused by TCGPlayer. Whether it be when biying from them, or (for whatever reason) using prices there as a guide for selling in person, we need a new way to know what cards are worth without getting ripped off or having to sell cards for less because people have become accustomed to the prices there.
Yes, and a lot of new inexperienced buyers are pushed towards direct by them having the listing at the top. Especially on a phone you don’t see other listing til you scroll down 2 full screens worth.
On a couple occasions I've seen the only direct option for a card be something ridiculous like $999 for a $0.50 card. Direct is a neat idea, but it seems there is no check in place to make sure the prices are accurate.
The convenience of Direct sales is nice, but not worth the extra cost to me personally. The only time I have used Direct was when it came out to the same price as not using direct, but it had fewer packages.
I had this issue.. looking for a Leaden Myr. It said there were listing for $0.50. But, I could ONLY see the Direct listing for $999.00 😆
The direct feature is never cheaper, and usually results in 5+ packages anyways. So I don't use it at all. Plus I don't mind buying from smaller vendors. In fact, they often times add extras like tokens, a random bulk rare, or even a promo or Foil basic land.
I know it has to be frustrating to keep talking about this but I’m glad you are. That was you can reach the most people you can to try and stop people getting scammed. I told all my friends about it when I saw your video and none of them noticed it. Now they check it when they order and so do I more carefully.
I’ve bought a lot of cards at once (around 56) and only 30 or so have actually came in the mail
Has anyone else ordered from tcgplayer and their product arrived with postage due?
Is the $50 free shipping real? Every time I’ve calculated my order it still says I have to pay shipping.
I will literally just go find a seller selling it a lot cheaper and pay the .99 shipping. If the item costs me a buck for shipping but only .50, whereas if I used the direct feature it’d cost me 4.50, why in the world would I get that one?
Hmm seems like a hole in the market that could be filled by a small shop that has good enough volume to post lower prices on direct 👀👀
Hey!! I saw my LGS on your list lol
Smothering tithe just sold for almost 60 when market price is right around 25 👍 direct is getting more and more extreme with their price difference
As a non-direct seller, I can say that upcharging the price of things like commons and uncommons are the only way to make a profit. Anything over a dollar being up charged is unnecessary though
Here come last save point employees
Some people like the direct because the cards are "Authenticated", not sure if it actually happens though
TCGplayer direct is a huge scam in every way. There’s the price issue like you mentioned, but ontop of that they just straight up send the wrong cards and they don’t use top loaders. And they also charge $3 for shipping even though it costs $0.96 for them to ship it
I am only seeing direct I can’t turn it off the option button does nothing I can only see one option of 26
At 40 dollars for a 6 dollar card and it’s pissing me off
No freaking way!
cardkingdom on top
I love Card Kingdom. Not as bad up charging as direct and it's always fast delivery
You can literally optimize the cart and not choose the direct option. It's probably people choosing to pay more for the convenience. I don't think cherry picking a few cards where there are crazy high direct prices proves there is some massive conspiracy to market manipulate.
I've ordered from tcgplayer direct 2 days my package says pre - shipment for 2 days I'm sorry to say but I may have to ask for a refund and not shop here anymore smh
I call that a stupid tax. Its on them if they get ripped off.
You are an extremely reasonable human being. But notice how you are ignored by the creator of this content? It's because you don't fit his narrative!
With proxies, say if you’re playing proxies with a new group and make sure you are playing readable proxies!!!
Saying no to proxies (assuming the decks are on a similar power level and the proxies are legible) is definitely more ass-holeish.
Sub-optimal for the memes is great in a group that you know and is ok with it. It can be hilarious and a wonderful social interaction, in spite of it being “sub-optimal”.
Umm, its called a free market. If the customer is unhappy with the price they will find a cheaper price. If the card isn't selling for the higher price then the person will begin to reduce the price.
Always use the cart optimizer and save yourself money by staying away from TCGDirect!
Yup. Screw direct😊 give those heavily played cards a good home and wait for all the lovely letters showing up in your mailbox!!
You think THAT'S bad? Try filtering places that ship to Canada...
Obviously
That and cardkingdom will advertise that they are the cheapest which they are not.
I've noticed this too :/ feels bad
I always compare prices and it usually evens out my overall purchase. Although tcg direct costs more per card, it typically costs less when you factor in shipping from 15+ different individual sellers. Tcg player is winning but so am I so I don't care.
I believe the point is that when you include the shipping into the price of the card and say shipping is free, then that inflates the actual cost of the card. So say a $1 gets marked up to $5 (to account for shipping). Then say enough people buy the card at that price. So now the market value of that card looks $2-3. So now a physical card shop can justify can setting the base value of that card at the inflated $2-3 and then add a premium on top of that (for overhead costs n such).
