- Wearing sunscreen is important for a variety of reasons ‼️
The primary reason is to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and even skin cancer.
When you’re out in the sun, your skin is exposed to two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can cause premature ageing, while UVB rays primarily affect the surface of the skin and can cause sunburn. Both types of UV rays can contribute to the development of skin cancer over time.
To protect your skin from these harmful effects, it’s important to wear sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days. Sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30 or higher can help block both UVA and UVB rays.
The one seen above is the Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF 50 from @skinceuticals
✅ Suitable for all skin types
✅ Reduce the appearance of discolouration and age spots
These are the areas of the body that are most exposed to the sun, and therefore most vulnerable to the damaging effects of UV rays. Be sure to apply sunscreen liberally, and reapply it every two hours, or more often if you’re sweating or swimming.

SPF doesn’t break down with time, it breaks down with sun exposure. The recommendation to reapply every 2 hours is “erring” on the side of caution, because that would be the recommended amount if you’re at the beach or something. The same sunscreen can last 2 hours or the whole day depending on your sun exposure
@@belbarcelos9264 damn rhanks for info
@@belbarcelos9264ohh thank you so much. Are you sure about this though?
I’ve had MOHS surgery several times. I wish I would have had this education years ago. My skin cancers have all been in those sneaky areas. Hard to apply sunscreen. And the sun hits hard on them. 2 on my hairline, one on the inside corners of my eye/nose. And my chest. Keep educating. So important.
If its hard to apply then you're stupid. Use a spray and common sense
I am young and the doctors say i have a high chance of skin cancer due to the sun. Any advice?
Wear a wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, sun protective clothing, and do annual derm skin checks. And live your life, don't panic or live in fear. The most common skin cancer is completely treatable. @@plasmer9784
NO ONE I know would ever reapply sunscreen every 2 hours! The tube would be empty in 3 days and your skin would look so greasy and terrible.
that’s why it’s better to avoid the sun than applying sunscreen tbh. nothing beats protective clothing. sunscreen is also insanely expensive
@@tina8315Also full of chemicals which arguably is more harmfull than the sun.
i wore long clothes to cover my body, i bring umberella everywhere and also wear cap . 😂 . i use sunscreen , but sunscreen is expensive .
You could always just follow the instructions on the bottle……usually it’s not every two hours….also there’s SPF lip balm….no sunscreen needed on the lips!
@@maryss8767 damn I feel for you to be honest! How can one thing destroy one race and fuel and rejuvenate the other! This is not to throw shade but I couldn’t imagine avoiding the sun! I would be depressed
if your eyes easily sting with sunscreen you can also just use sunglasses to protect the skin around your eyes
Stupid sunglasses patch at the top of the nose though 😂
Gets me every time lol
We need a sunscreen pill
Agreed!
There is! But it supplements normal topical sunscreen use I believe
They have Heliocare. Although it's not a replacement for sunscreen.
Melanin is basically that. I worked outdoors with a guy who used to take it. He’d go from white white to dark tan that would take most 6 months in the sun within 4-5 days
I've learned in chemistry class. Uni. After eight hours, S PF 50 has only reduced to spf30. So you do not need to reapply every two hours unless you're outside and or in the water.. So if you're indoors in an office... A light application thirty minutes before you leave home is just fine.. Or if you're gonna be out in the sun after work, then absolutely go ahead and refresh...
Thank you for the information 😊.
Well, it might still be somewhat effective in the areas it hasn’t broken down or rubbed off of. Remember, putting on or removing clothing, rubbing our eyes, blowing nose, touching face, fabric rubbing against skin, washing hands, eating, even light sweating, and just every day things can rub off or remove the sunscreen film in many places.
If I could go back and tell my younger self to reapply during the day and before leaving work….i 100% would. We had to work under fluorescent lights too, as well as big giant windows in the 6th floor of a building. Very exposed. If people don’t think fluorescent lights do damage, just go to Walgreens or wherever, and look at makeup that’s exposed to those lights like the first item on a hook. Take several off and notice how the color of the item from furthest back is still rich and true in color, and the one in the front is bleached out and old looking. Even the packaging itself may be damaged from the lights.
I wasn’t trying to argue with you. It’s just if I could go back and tell myself what I know now, I would in a heartbeat.
I like to think of it like sunscreen breaks down and rubs off same way makeup does, and it’s easier to visualize makeup bc we see it at the end of every day how it has completely disappeared sometimes in certain places. Imagine that all over your body, like if you were wearing a sweater on your arms and you take it off before leaving work, it probably rubbed all sunscreen off your arms etc.
Sun gets you thru clouds and windows, and UV rays from devices age you the same way. You should wear sunscreen all day everyday, but hey, no one is forcing you.
@@itchysheets1222not everyone works in the same conditions as you do. So most people don’t need to reapply it
Just don’t spend much time with that UV light on your eyes!! I once had to make an emergency visit to the hospital in the middle of the night when I decided it would be a good idea to put the free light I got into my aquarium, which I sat right next to for a few hours. Turned out to be a UV light meant for pond filters.. The pain took some hours to set in but was unbelievably bad when it did.
Lmao that was a UV sterilizer, that was dangerous UVC. The LED UV diodes talked about in this video are UVA, not UVC.
No healthcare professional (or even just any sane person) would blast themselves with UVC. UVC kills cells, that’s why it’s used as a germicide.
Also that UVC could have easily killed your aquarium’s animals by putting it directly in/near the water calumn like that. Ignorant idiot. If you don’t know what a UV sterilizer is or how to use one, you shouldn’t have been using one. You shouldn’t have an aquarium with animals.
Poor fish!!!
it’s so interesting how unique everyone’s problems are lol
The UV light you see from the fish tank is UV-C, which is inherently harmful to health and has strong ionizing properties. It ranges from 100 to 280 nm, so even all UV-C from the sun is blocked by the atmosphere, making it more toxic than UV-B.
However, the type of UV commonly used for observing fluorescence is UV-A, typically at 395 nm or 365 nm. While not strong enough to cause harm to the skin or induce cancer, it still has the potential to cause clouding of the lens in the eyes (Cataract) with prolonged exposure.
You're using the wrong ultraviolet light, come on...
Reapplying every two hours sounds like a hustle. Is it really worth it?
No you don't need to. You can apply a thick layer and you'll get the recommended SPF, or 2 times a day with a thinner layer.
Alternatively you could get a sunscreen with a higher spf like 50 and apply once thinly and still get around 20-30 spf. Reapplying every 2 hours is a little extreme.
Yea its funny because spf 15 blocks 93% and after 2 hours an spf 50 prob still above spf 15 so you just could be blocking 4% percent more by reapplying which actually sounds like a lot because I'd say 10% would be worth blocking but not 1% but 5% prob will reapply every 2-3hours
It's probably just companies trying to get you to use more product so you have to buy it more often.
Only outside, if you’re inside? Yeah np
i don’t think sunscreen is worth unless you’re always active in the sun. if you can avoid it and wearing protective clothing, then that’s even better than sunscreen. i find it interesting that people will apply sunscreen to their face, ignoring the rest of their body, and say it’s to prevent skin cancer ???
A word of caution here. Speaking from experience , I would encourage a bit of discretion. If you do anything that will make sweat a lot, this can cause some serious eye discomfort as the sweat mingles with the sunscreen and gets in your eyes.
Sunglasses are the way!

Yeah some sunscreens make me itchy and red, and they sting my eyes too. I really hate them to be honest with you, and I think most of this is marketing and propaganda to make us buy more and more. We need that vitamin D too, and it cant absorb if we go hysterical about this. According to the National Cancer Institute, skin cancer is on the rise. Cases of melanoma in American adults has tripled since the 1970s. What’s more alarming is that the death rate from skin cancer has escalated sharply, doubling the number of deaths in the last 40 years.
They didn’t wear sun screen in the 70s or before. that started in the 80’s. now one might do some math and wonder if it’s not all the sunscreen causing this…
Isn’t it funny that people just do what they’re told and don’t question the obvious facts? Back then people spent a lot more time outdoors in the sun and children grew up playing in the sun with no sun screen, yet today, in a time when people spend a lot more time indoors, many children grow up playing console games etc and most people use sun screen when they go out in the sun, the rates of skin cancer have increased so much. They should be lower right?
correlation ≠ causation. not to mention part of the reason this might be is because of all the fear mongering around sunscreen.
@@JT-oh4eu are you aware that it’s usually older people who are diagnosed with skin cancer? Which checks out with the fact that people used to go outside all day in the sun without protection. It’s not the 20 and 30 year olds getting diagnosed right now. I think the most common age is about 65. It’s the same people who went outside and didn’t really know about sunscreen.
The stat is also not really true for every country. For example, Australia had a major public health push for sunscreen use for a few decades and their rates have been dropping.
You’re not entirely wrong about the stats and is good to question why it’s increasing. But you’re missing factors like earlier diagnosis, people are going to get moles checked more frequently, general public awareness, people living older, taking more beach days, being able to travel more for vacations like trips to warm climates in winter and the fact that skin cancer from UV is not quick. It can take a number of bad burns and years before signs of cancer. So there’s a lot of compounding factors that go into the rates of skin cancer increasing.
@@amywilkinsit’s not the sunscreen.
Do the math again and you’ll see it’s older people making up the majority of skin cancer stats. The same people who didn’t wear sunscreen and went outside all day. They’ve had more exposure over time to the UV radiation, so they’ve been at more risk.
The rates are also decreasing in areas that had public health pushed for sunscreen and sun protection in general.
actually really smart
Why gloves tho?
On the thumbnail I thought she was hurt
You wear gloves to prevent sunscreen getting on hands but how do you apply susncreen to your hands? Rubbing backs of hands together works its just difficult to get even coverage
Applying sunscreen in UV light and she still missed the bridge of her nose 😂
terrible advice. You dont need to apply sunscreen every 2 hours. Just once a day. and if you're someone who work sin the sun, it's best to just wear protective clothing at that point. Otherwise, you'll be spending like $100/month alone on sunscreen applying "every 2 hours".

There's something called genetics
@@Sove210 if u have dark skin then yea but otherwise it has nothing to do with genetics but rather with what u eat and what u apply to your skin. Ingredients like retinol or acids make the skin extremely sensitive to the sun and if u also have a bad diet and consume vegetable oils like sunflower or rapeseed oil then its no wonder youre so sunceptible to sunburns. The cholesterol in the skin oxidizes as soon as it comes into contact with UV light leading to sunburns and skin cancer
Anyone who has seen a 30 year old knows this is a lie. You start getting fine lines around that age.
You must be genetically gifted, but you’re not immune to general aging.
And the 60 year olds getting diagnosed with skin cancer now said similar, “I’m doing fine” “I don’t burn” etc.

9 of the 15 chemicals found in most commercial sunscreens are known endocrine disruptors. So not only are these chemicals highly reactive to sunlight, but they also interfere with the normal function of endocrine glands, leading to hormonal imbalances.
Just use a 100% mineral formula instead of those chemical ones.
Just use the next gen chemical sunscreens that are available in the EU or Asia.

well firstly, very little chemicals present in sunscreen actually makes it into your blood, there's been numerous studies that show that these chemicals end up in urine anyway, so our body metabolizes and excretes them. also for something to be considered an endocrine disruptor, it has to negatively impact your health, which mineral AND chemical sunscreens don't do. if you label anything that changes your hormonal levels an endocrine disruptor, then food and stress should also be avoided too according to your logic.
I don't use it around my mouth ...It cause acne in that area...So, I only use two times ..That works well
