  • Congrats to John M. in Hartford, CT, on the purchase of this fine banjer:
Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a mint condition original JD Crowe model Gold Star banjo! This beauty is a one owner time capsule that is as clean as you will find anywhere. Sounds as good as it looks! This is the only original JD20 from the first batch of 80 that is on the market at this time.

Wow, nice. I'll tell ya, a Gold Star JD in Russ's hands always sounds amazing. It just responds to his crazy strong hammer on's and I've heard him on the Prucha but wow, always blows my mind when he plays a Crowe.

Ben, thanks so much for doing this interview...I own #810060 and absolutely love it and now the history of this lot of instruments that you and Russ were so gracious to provide really helps document it.🙌

hi, Im a guitar player but wonting to pick up banjo, was wondering if a washburn b9 5string would be a good starter banjo and was wondering
what quality sound it would be?

Ben, I had to chuckle when you introduced Russ as "a good buddy of mine." As a trucker, 'good buddy' is cb lingo for a man who is... uh, gay.

I have a Gold Star. It has the chrome finish, not gold. Bought it used back in '82 from Bruce and Rick at Mr. T's picking parlor in Clear Lake Texas. It was Rick's personal banjo. It still sounds great. Needs the chrome plating re-done. I haven't played since 1983. Anyone know where to get one re-plated?
