In the extras, you can unlock a combo video with busted TODs for the whole cast. Nice training footage
I used to hardout practice them too lol cyclops and havoc combos were off the hook! Magneto was my favorite one though

I'm from the 90s and i disagree. We all can still do that, it's just a matter of going out of our homes and meeting people, even online we can meet people to make potential IRL friends.

@@alexs7670 fighting games do though. So does the nearly infinite library of "retro" games that didn't stop existing just because we live in the future. There are also board games, card games, physical activities like sports.
I want to see more of this played by pros or whatever. The gameplay is so fun and well paced. The SFX are the best in fighting games, and the music is fantastic.

@@Isoant i checked a little X-Men:ND and i think interface and FX in X-Men MA2 looks better than in X-Men:ND. Also X-Men:ND is 3d fighting but X-Men:MA 2 is 2d. I'm not sure about dynamic in X-Men:ND but X-Men:MA2 is very dynamic. Anyway X-men:ND looks like a sequel for this game. Good or Bad sequel thats is main question but some things are looks cool.
Now THIS is what i was talking about. I don't know why you played the first game. You can search online for a cheat button combination in the main menu that unlocks every character and hidden ones like Spider-Man and Professor Xavier.
I strongly recommend to look for the combo video in the extras on Xavier for you to see the potential each character has.
Also, i wish this was on Fightcade.
People shouldn't have recommended the first one. They risked having Justin rage quit and not want to try this one.

Rogue got her flying powers from Captain Marvel. Her hairstyle in the late 90s was actually mirrored after Major Kusanagi from Ghost in The Shell. That was around the time when anime and manga were starting to hit it big in the US.
Also ms marvel was in the coma for awhile

@@macuser7048I wouldn’t say that. It was a very loose interpretation of the previous comics. Some stories are similar, but there’s too many differences to say that it followed the comics. Days of Future Past is quite different from comic to cartoon to movie.
They did however create a comic series based on episodes from the cartoon
@@subterraneanretrogames556 They rearranged it. Events that happened already in the comics got rearranged in the 90s cartoon. Sort of like a soft reboot.
Justin the reason rogue is flying/floating is because she absorbed Mrs. Marvel/Carol Danvers powers. She held her too long, getting not only her powers of flight, super strength, but some of her memories as well in the form of nightmares. She put carol in a coma for awhile. This all came about because of mystique her mother told her to do it. Rogue was a villain before becoming a hero.
This game is actually SUPER underrated, 10/10 playstation 1 classic.
Xmen Next Dimension HAS to be the next one lol. Justin also must use a cheat to unlock all characters and see the glory that is Blob.

Growing up I had X-Men: Next Dimension (which is apparently considered Mutant Academy 3 according to Wikipedia) and for the longest time didn't know it was part of a series of X Men fighting games.
It even had things like Injustice like stage transitions an actual story mode with alternate endings depending on how you beat the final boss, kinda neat
pretty sure they stole the stage transition idea from NR that was in one of the early 3d MK games
YES! THIS is the one. This may be my favorite PS1 game ever. I had a choice between getting TTT1 and X-men MA2 for Hannukah when both were new, and because of Nightcrawler and Spider-man I went with this. I eventually got TTT1 with my allowance and love both games, but X-men MA2 not just solidified my love for X-men that persists to this day, but inspired how I created my SFxT v2013 Bible with how detailed and helpful the tutorial was. The in-game character overviews for MA2 were years ahead of their time.
Was there PS1 version of Tekken Tag? I know arcades machines for it were basically overclocked PS1's, but I didn't knew there was PS1 port :0

That Optic Blast SFX is clean. This game had great sound design.
You can change your x power from one to another one . And you can do it while doing combos too .
Example .Press Tringle and them circle and the meter from the second bar will pass to the third bar meter .
Another thing you can do , for example , is delay or double hit with the projectiles .
Example . If you pick Gambit , and jump and you do is Air card projectile , he throws 1 card . But if you jump and do it in the the air card projectlie very fast , and press square and then triangle and R2 reslly fast , he throws 2 cards . And theres one way to cancel Gambits Kick special . And theres counters too . Just press L2 i guess . Theres a lot of juice in this game . And theres a cheat to unblock everyting . Even a combo video .

I had a lot of fun with the Mutant Academy games when they released. Definitely a whole different ballpark from MvC and the first few Tekken games I was used to 😅
This is a surprisingly solid game considering how jank the first game was.
I remember having so much fun playing this game like 10 years ago. This video made me want to revisit it. Cyclops and Magneto were my favorites, so it's very nice to see Justin play one of the characters scrubby me loved to play back then. 😁
I probably could've stood to play X-Men: Mutant Academy 2, myself. I always liked Cyclops' optic beam sound here and the first game.

Cyclops was also my go to character. Nothing beats a good ol" Optic Blast.
Also, that soundtrack was kinda poppin' off.

Fighting games were always my favorite kind of game, but I was a level above any of my friends, so they didn't like playing me. I really liked this game, though. It's fun doing combos. Cyclops is top tier with combos.
Justin is cheating, everyone knows cyclops and havoks powers don't work on each other.
From the mistakes of XMA1, XMA2 improve a lot in torn of characters, battle mechanics and everything

This game is just waiting to be cracked open - it has some busted mechanics, and you can do some wild stuff with some tech we call "heavy canceling". (You basically just kara l/m special into h special. You can even do this if you dont have a move on that special input... Giving some characters infinites that are just heavy punch repeatedly)
But for all the ways the actual combat might be broken, it's a really neat combo engine
This is what I remember from back in the day. When I realized you could double pound with Magneto it was OVER. The special into special cancelling leads to some real wacky shit.
When this came out on a PlayStation magazine demo version, I was hyped about the roaring thunder of wolverine's claw special or every characters special in general PLUS the mid air combos.

I used to rent this game back to back. It wasn't on the shelves for weeks cause of me lol. The sfx for hits were so satisfying to the ear.

That ending though. Wtf. Hes just like, so full of himself and it absolutely said nothing about the whole game, or whatever. Amazing stuff.
I don't remember if it was the first or second game, but I just remember my friends and I laughing so hard at the announcer as well as Professor X. The announcer would announce all the characters normal, but then when you picked Rogue it sounded like he was busting a nut. 😂😂😂

One of my favourite stages in this game is the Pool Party stage where it even includes special swimsuit outfits for everyone, my favourites are Magneto with the Towel Cape and Juggernaut with the Bucket Head

I really love the presentation and animations here, especially the magic series stuff. They're so quick and snappy, nearly immediately jumping from pose to pose with very little in-between (but still having just enough to look nicely animated). You can hust feel how good pressing buttons feels here without even playing. This shit seems way too high effort for a random licensed game
I wish capcom would make an official sequel to children of the atom or marvel superheroes (not a tag game) using the RE engine. That would be CRAZY

Hope you get to play more and the other characters as well. Jean Grey has this confusion super, Magneto plays more like Terry Bogard and Rogue has 3 supers here. This game is mad fun.

This game is a rare gem. A licensed PS1 game published by Activision and it somehow aint garbage lol.
I played this a lot as a kid (as well as Children Of The Atom bc that is also hecking great).
I love that game :) in X-Men: MA2 characters have a shortcuts on df and db specials and double specials trick (if press another button for same special in the right time). So cool to see pros in this game.
I remember playing this game. Beast, Wolverine and Storm are broken. I remember there was a mechanic to switch which super to use while casting. Always loved the second super since you can multiply the damage.

Played the hell out of Mutant Academy 2 on PS1 and it's successor Next Dimension on PS2. Super fun times hanging with my cousins.
Play with bishop or bastion. Havoc is good too. The mystique in this game is gamora in mvc3 later. This was a good game. Xbox exclusive at the time!

Now you only have X-Men: Next Dimension left.
And THAT one's fairly absurd, too. I think it's also one of early fighting games with cinematic supers (Level 4s).

This was my favorite game growing up
I always liked that your level 2 super could get up to 5x the damage. Makes a huge difference. I was a Storm and Psylocke main, but sadly could never really play this at any level of competition. Also, there were some awesome air to ground combos as well, in addition to the inverse.
This update to Mutant Academy was so good that it made Justin update the thumbnail

They honestly could remake this...the combo structure is there...jus do a graphical overhaul, add a bit more to the mechanics and super meter, of course more characters and u have a legitimate, competitive xman fighting game that people would enjoy
