Ristar is one of the best games created for the Megadrive/Genesis 16 bit era. The Gfx, music, art and gameplay are top notch. One of those underrated gems indeed.

I mean, sega's always had a good awareness of character and background differenciation. Back when games like this were made, they kinda didn't get that you needed to make everything stand out in its own way so you dont blend everything together. This game does well because everything shines. Well done
Ristar in my opinion is very similar to Dynamite Headdy, belive it or not. Both are yellow, both games features voice samples, both games have great graphics and beautiful music, both characters attack by headbutting, both games got localized in the International version and both games belongs in the category of "best Genesis games".

Yeah, really. The game was also programmed to do software mixing on the DAC channel which only a few Genesis games ever did. Basically that means playing multiple drum sounds at once allowing for more complex percussion.
I searched for a full playthrough of this game since I remember being very fond of it but never got to finish it. Now I realize that kid me never even got pass the 1st stage 😂 it's nice to finally see the rest of this game from my childhood
i remember playing this on the psp with the genesis classics .And i played this game more than the sonic game ,and i remember i used to have big trouble on water levels .Sadly my genisis disk for my psp is now badly scratched ;(
