    I originally thought Megan was an easy target because I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone refer to her as one of the best rappers outside of some articles on the internet, but then I thought about all the fake outrage from so-called hip-hop heads. Like you said, I don’t think her music is raunchy enough. It gives me Miley Cyrus post-Disney Channel vibes, something that maybe sheltered kids who only grew up listening to religious music would be intrigued by. If that shit wasn’t shocking to me as a 15-16 year old, there’s no way it’s gonna phase me as a grown man. It’s just forgettable TikTok music that no one would care about without the fake controversy surrounding it.

    damn you spoke facts on this one 🤣 undeniable is the key, I think a lot of people are unable to separate their personal tastes/appeals from what the actual discipline of music is about, and what makes a record quality and everlasting vs what you just enjoy hearing. I am really tired of seeing “stan” culture take off the way that it has, so that it’s “cool” to stan your favourite artists, “this guy is the goat” “one of the greatest” or just weird troll fans 😤🙄 it’s almost completely unescapable to find that base in almost every scene of music at this point. You could take her off her beats and give them to Katy Perry or some BS pop artist like that, and no one would know it was a Megan beat. The issue is that Nicki, especially with her success with Anaconda has glorified sex in the rap industry for women and thus they feel like they have to objectify themselves to be successful. All these black women have to strip and act sexy to get noticed, it's about image more than the music which is why it's difficult for female rappers to sell records. You see articles about Saweetie struggling to sell music because she makes music about her body and thus people gravitate towards that more than their actual rapping/singing talent. Sex sells in the music industry but only for so long - when women start to lose their attractiveness, the male fans start to wonder off elsewhere to the next big thing (Ice Spice) and the cycle goes on. The female fans might still support the existing rap stars (Megan Thee Stallion) but ultimately it won't be good enough to sell a whole lot of records if you don't have the male fanbase as well.

    I came back to this because of the new Meg record that dropped, trash as expected, but when u said the thing about it being aimed at kids and white folks I had this epiphany. In white, specifically suburban white America, which is where I believe that type of music and overall pop music gets the most play, there’s this infantilization thing that goes on where there’s no grit or rawness and people are very naive in their thinking (same mindset that leads to so many white “liberals” being Hamas cheerleaders because they wanna latch onto an easy good guy vs bad guy narrative but that’s a whole other thing.) That’s why they like stuff like Megan thee stallion even though jts very surface level sex stuff that you’re right Lil Kim and others had done previously. It’s why Tyler the creator, a grown man in his 30s, has a fanbase of white teens that like very basic music about essentially one tree hill/13s reasons why drama nonsense and love triangles at summer camp or whatever he raps about. A lot of hip-pop music today is as safe as possible. Scatterbrained comment by me but a lot of shit just clicked and I wanted to say it before I forget

    But your statement that "black women are the most sexually repressed women" was baffling, tbh. As someone who says they lived in Saudi Arabia for a time, how would you compare the treatment of black women in the West to the women over there? And vice versa. Black women do face many challenges in this society; we can agree on that. But I do not buy them being sexually repressed, especially in 2022. In fact, I'd say that the black woman of the West is OVERLY sexualized, and thus the most sexually EXPLOITED.

    I only like the hook on savage from her not even the whole song, but other than that, I couldn't care less. Nearly all of the top artists right now are just appealing to mainstream, even if they have the talent to create great music.

  • @epiphanyarina366
    @epiphanyarina366 Před 2 lety +3

    I actually think she is talented but to a certain degree lacks the star quality of a lil kim. I also think that if she was being led by a better team then she’d be able to mature her pen and write better songs. I will say that she can benefit from writing different type of music and exploring new topics. Also some of her flows can be exciting depending on the song I like her flow on “shotta” by Meg & yung nudy.
