    From the same EP try "Tender Surrender" is another vibe, it's beautiful and Steve Vai shows why he is one of the best guitarist of all time. Hugs from Brazil.

    My dad bought me this exact vhs with the performances from the album when I was a kid and I fell in love with it. I had been listening to Steve for only a couple of years so this was such a great gift. Never got to see him play before only just had the opportunity to hear him. A pleasant surprise visually!

    This is the song I wish reactors would check out when taking on Vai. It is, in my opinion, one of the absolutely most brilliant bits of guitar playing ever recorded. Another is “Now We Run” live with String Theory.

    Had the video collection and CD from this ep. Love this as the opener. He ended up getting really sick from the paint in this video. Some of the sound effects on this song are mimicking a train whistle. At the end of the second song someone yells out something like "Shut Up! We know you can play. Jesus!" lol

      Incorrect. He was nominated for a Grammy for the studio track version of Tender Surrender. But it didn't win. No live performance of Tender Surrender has been nominated, let alone won. He's won three grammy's, and they are for the following:
      1) Best Rock Instrumental Performance: Peaches En Regalia
      2) Best Pop Instrumental Album: No Substitutions - Live In Osaka
      3) Best Rock Instrumental Performance: Sofa

    Crossroads is based on bluesman Robert Johnson. Definitely worth a watch. Vai kills it when they "cut heads" in the finally. Macchio s parts are done by guitar player Ry Cooder. He's probably a guy you've heard but didn't know it.

    This guy right here belongs in the RNR HOF. He should have his own wing. He has done so much. He had a big impact on music, especially guitar. But his solo stuff. Jesus he's made some impressive music. Very artistic, which I love. Anybody can play fast. He has mastered his craft for multiple styles and speeds. He's not a one trick pony. His stuff with Whitesnake was great. His stuff with David Lee Roth was great. Imagine DLR working with EVH and Steve Vai. Good lord. I put Vai as number one, and EVH as number 2. My personal opinion. Eddie was bigger because of the VH music. The whole band. If he made just guitar music, I'm not sure what that would be like. Eddie never seemed interested.

  • @Timmayytoo
    @Timmayytoo Před 7 měsíci +3

    So a LOT of Steve's early recorded work is just him alone in his own studio - he plays all the instruments and often employed a drum machine. This EP was recorded that way... while he does tour with a band that tends to feature the same players for extended periods of time, I don't believe those guys in the video were actually members of his band (EDIT: I think I'm wrong - I re-listened to some other tunes from this EP and it sounds like he used a band.) This was released a few years after his "rock band" project called VAI was released. They recorded one album featuring some killer musicians and a young Devin Townsend on vocals, who is a force of nature.
    The album released the year after this EP, called Fire Garden, is probably my favorite and it's the first time he sang lead vocals extensively throughout the album - there are some brilliant songs on it... in particular the song Aching Hunger has one of the best hooks he's ever written.
