I hope MLB invests in historical sights and ballparks in the future. This sport means a lot to a lot.

Don’t hold your breath. David Justice recently admitted on a podcast hosted by Keyshawn Johnson disclosed that MLB invests baseball camps in South American country but not for baseball parks in urban communities. This explains why the number of black baseball players is dwindling.

@Upploadz I also heard that Rickwood field didn't receive any support from MLB, and that the local community was a large force behind it.
Eta: If true, it's a disgrace, and MLB should be ashamed. They've been a disgrace in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me. But I hope they get their priorities morally, ethically, and factually right.

@lightingbolt8148 not taking the bait. Your username "lightning8148" has 3 separate nazi symbols/numbers. Lightning is one of their symbols. 14 refers to the 14 words. And 88 refers to H the 8th letter of the alphabet, and represents the scum Hitler.

Cardines Field in Newport, Rhode Island, is widely considered the oldest baseball stadium in the United States. Baseball was a popular sport in Newport as far back as the 1890s, leading to the development of a dedicated ballpark in 1908. This new stadium was originally named Basin Field, as it opened atop a former basin that supplied water to steamships The ballpark hosted its first game on May 25, 1908. The stadium was temporarily shut down because hard-hit baseballs led to many broken windows in nearby houses, though Basin Field reopened in 1918 and implemented an insurance policy for those incidents. At the time, games started at 5:30 pm and ended at sunset if the game wasn’t yet complete. The park was later renamed after Bernardo Cardines, the first Newport resident to be killed in the line of duty during World War I. In 1936, the city purchased the stadium and later installed a curved grandstand section that still sits behind home plate today. During World War II, many future MLB Hall of Famers - including Yogi Berra and Bob Feller - played games at Cardines Field while stationed at the local naval base. The stadium underwent renovations in the 2000s and welcomed the collegiate-level Newport Gulls as their home team in 2001. The team continues to play home games at Cardines Field from June to August every year.

With Miles College playing their games at Rickwood, that now means that the SIAC schools will now play games in the oldest professional ballpark and the oldest collegiate ballpark (Stan Galle at Spring Hill College)

I visited Rickwood back in Feb as much of the renovations were being done. Spent some time with the president of Friends of Rickwood, MLB has not put up ANY money for the stadium updates necessary for this event. The City of Birmingham and Friends of Rickwood had to raise all the capital necessary for all the demands and requirements MLB laid-out. The vast majority of the seats will be set-aside for MLB, their VIP's, advertisers and the two teams.
