During early and mid October, the Cass Scenic Railroad is flooded with tourists hoping to ride the legendary Bald Knob or Whittaker trains in front of their iconic Shay locomotives. The Whittaker trains usually only had 3 or 4 cars because they are able to run 2 trains a day to spread out the large amount of riders. The Bald Knob however, consists of 9 cars due to the insane popularity of the scenery. Because of this, the crew has to fire up an extra steam locomotive to perform as a helper in a doubleheader. This makes Cass one of the few steam railroads that runs doubleheaders on a regular basis.
On October 9th and 10th 2021, I made another visit to Cass. Shay No. 5 (Wearing a homemade 3 Chime) was on the Whittaker train and Shay No. 11 (wearing a L&N 3 Chime) and No. 2 (A CP 4 Chime) were on the Bald Knob train. I was able to take a ride to Whittaker on the 2:00 PM train on car A right in front of Shay No. 5. After the ride, I was able to catch 5 and 11 running around in the yard after they put up their cars. Enjoy a weekend at one of the best tourist railroads on the East Coast!

This is a cool railroad in West Virginia. Cass Scenic Railroad has amazing operational Shay steam locomotives, along with their Climax too.
Yes they do. It is quite a sight to see

I was lucky to go into the cab of shay #5 this year. I have also been in Shay #6, Shay #11, Heisler #6 and the inoperable #3.
Awesome
Great Video Man! Nice to see you again, we had a Blast!
Thanks! You too! We sure did lol
Great video!
Thank you! Had a great time filming it
the CP 4 chime sounds like a higher pitch of a Frisco 6 chime in my opinion.
Interesting, I never thought of it like that
