    ABOUT ME:
    Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
    See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

    I hate to be negative, but this would be more helpful if it showed how to start gridding, with 'blank' fabric (i.e. fabric that didn't already have gridding on it). It took me a little while to figure out where to start - how far from the edges, but it's been a long work day and I'm just looking for something where I don't have to think too much lol

      @EnlightenedFlamingo Před 2 lety +27

      I don't think it's negative at all. I'm a true beginner (waiting for materials to arrive to even start my first small piece!) & I think for a true "beginners guide", we should see every step. Starting the gridding, the middle steps we see here, as well as actually stitching your project with the grid stitches in place! I know she mentions how to do it, but as an absolute beginner, I'm struggling to imagine what that even looks like. Great video, for sure, but the vast majority of beginner guides on CZcams need to include so much more than they do...

      @rooty Před rokem +6

      She said to just start at the centre, so that should determine how far from the edges you are

      I’m literally working on my first piece now and this was really easy for me to understand you’re folded in half both ways tying out at the end of your thread and start grading count to eight. It’s pretty straightforward.

      I agree totally. It’s a shame because the video jumps all over the place - normally the tutes on CCS are so good. What a shame.

    I know I’m lame but I would have loved to see you start the cross stitch off just because I’m a bit on the slow side but also have ADHD and my brain goes everywhere. Cross stitch is so helping me learn to focus. It’s been amazing.

    Great tutorial! I only have one little quibble: Don't use anything else on your gridding but DMC or any cross-stitch specific thread! I used some very old threads from my mother's old sewing kit and they stained the fabric! I ended up having to stitch my design, and then went back and stitched A sky over it to make the finished design an Edgerton edge piece, it wouldn't wash out!

    Thanks for this, I have been doing cross stitch for many years and this is the best gridding method I have used. I tried the preprinted grids but as I do such fine work, like blackwork, I am not convinced the lines have entirely washed out. See? You can teach old dog new tricks.

    That's look very tidy. I am going to try. One suggestion, the central section of the fabric should be gridded in a different colour in order to identified the centre.

    I'm gonna try this on my fabric, it's my first time doing a cross stitch that's not a kit, and it's very exiting but I'm also scared to mess up, I hope this'll help, and I hope I'll be able to get the grid out after I'm done, I'm quite messy in the back of my cross stitches..

    Thank you for that helpful video. I’ve gridded before but had trouble pulling the threads out afterwards. Then I bought some gridded fabric, but when it was all done the “temporary” lines simply wouldn’t wash out, so the piece was ruined. I’ll now try your way of gridding, leaving the little blank square at each 10 junction. Wish me luck!

    • @caterpillarcarla6240
      @caterpillarcarla6240 Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure how easy it is to grid on an already started piece, however I would make sure the next element you stitch is closest to the last element you stitch meaning less of an area to count. Double check if you need to :-)

  • @cltherrien

    I just finished a project which I had done gridding for the first time. I took out the gridding this morning as wasn’t happy to see that you can tell where the gridding lines were and the 4 corners of each square. Does this disappear once it is washed and ironed? I spent 2 1/2 yrs making this and will be terribly upset if it doesn’t.
