I live in Pensacola, Florida and I absolutely adore our Blue Angels. Every time they fly over, I have chill bumps. Such respect for these men and women. The only negative thing are those cheesy jumpsuits they are made to wear. I wish they would put them in something less tight, more comfortable and more like flights suits. I salute this amazing group with pride and respect.

Those are the most amazing planes! I was stationed in El Toro Ca. I was in the power plants (engines and fuel systems, also crew chief) in the Marines in 1983! Loved every moment.

I saw the Blue Angels in 1960 @Grosse Ile Mich. they flew the F-4 Panthers. We watched them from a boat out on Lake Erie. Very good view, very impressive!!
So fortunate to call Pensacola home where the Angels fly 2 shows a year, one in the Summer at Pensacola Beach and the Homecoming Show in November aboard Pensacola NAS! Hometown Proud!
I realize Top Gun focuses on combat mission and Blue Angels focus on flight demonstrations. Yet what are the primary differences between the two entities? Can a TG pilot be an a member of the BA without the interview process? Are the maneuvers between the TG and BA pilots the nearly the same?
Personally I think the ground drill is excessive and looks rather silly. There is know doubting their flying skills, but all that faffing about on the ground is daft. It may inspire some to join up, fair enough, that`s really the job of the various military display teams around the world. Most other counties don`t do a ground drill before a performance, I have seen all the major display teams across the world at some point, the Blue Angels formations are certainly the closest, their display is much more exciting than the USAF Thunderbirds for example.
Never have been disappointed with the Angels! Except when I was in the night classes at Pensacola going thru my training and they would buzz us at 0700. A-4s at that time. 18s have SO much forgiving controls and better avionics. F22 would be the next step for me. Solo plane in a group? wow. You guys rock! J

I sometimes forget just how good they are. The Super Hornet is amazing for slow and tight formations.
How good they are at not having a prayer against an F22 or 35.. Great plane non the less
