    The deflection of a simply supported beam with a point load is PL^3/48EI and not PL^4/84EI

    You have the most common deflection for a point load mid span wrong. Don’t quote that in an interview. Def=PL^3/(48EI)

    Point load deflection equation is wrong. It’s is PL^3/48EI

    Isn't the steel characteristic strength fck factor of safety already accounted for from the stress block that gives rise to 0.87 in the steel formula for reinforcement area required?

    1:44 how did you derive that equation ??especially how did the 0.87 came out ?is it a safety-factor or something ??

    • @TheChronicMadnass
      @TheChronicMadnass Před 2 lety +2

      I think there might be a very subtle error in that equation for RC flexural design as the material factor of 1/1.15 is being double counted on the denominator. It is being used to factor down the steel yield stress to 435 even though it has already featured in its decimal form as 0.87. Would *yield* conservative design though so not such a bad thing for a back-of-a-fag-packet assessment!
