  • How I ended up as a Canadian CPA in San Francisco and all the ups and downs of getting here. I wanted to share my two cents and give you another perspective on what you can do after studying accounting. Hi Yuki, thanks for sharing great experience. I've been interviewing for California as well, accounting role, but what would SFO Cali, I realized the rents are so high, almost easy 4k, food 2k all works up to probably 8k living expenses a month. So even a 250k salary seems very small and not to mention the homelessness and not too good things in SFO.

    Anything worth working for is never a breeze to get through. Happy that you stayed persistent and continued until you got to where you wanted to be. If life was easy, it would be no fun. Good luck in California. :)

    Thank you for answering my question! ( or atleast i asked a similar question lol) but I find accounting kinda hard, but know the outcome in the end is totally worth it!

      It was your question! Although i'm not sure I did a great job answering it haha 😅The best part is that your actual job is much easier than learning about it in class (in my opinion)

    Nice video 👍I am taking CPA Australia exam and planning of moving to Canada. I wonder if the qualification of CPA Australia is useful in Canada (I won’t be going to work in public accounting firm or taxation area for sure). It is interesting to know that a CPA Canada accountant works in the US, as far as I know, US employers mainly look for US CPA holder, correct me if I am wrong. Have a great day.

    Hey Yuki, did you have to get recertified to become a US CPA after you moved to the states? Do they recognize Canadian CPA?

    • @YukiWangYoutube
      @YukiWangYoutube  Před 2 lety +2

      I didn't, my team was fine with my Canadian CPA. It could vary from company to company but I haven't had anyone ask if I was going to re-certify for any US roles I interviewed for. Hope that helps!

    Hi, how important are high grades (GPA of 3.5 and above) in university accounting courses. My daughter is in a co-op program at U of T and is currently looking for an internship (preferably at a big 4 accounting firm or bank)? Also, what is the starting salary for an associate at an accounting firm? Thanks in advance!

      I worked at Deloitte in 2019 out of University, starting salary was mid 40's - I think its gone up to mid 50's since then.

    Hello Yuki,
    I stumble across your video and I found it very helpful. I do have a couple of questions that maybe you can answer. The first is can you touch more in the difference of industry and public account. I’m not very versed when it comes to accounting terminology. I recently switch major from nursing to accounting during the pandemic , and I feel I’m far behind on the learning curve when it comes to accounting . Another question I have is where do you even begin to apply for internships without experience. Again I really enjoyed the video it was very informative.

    • @YukiWangYoutube
      @YukiWangYoutube  Před 2 lety

      Hi! Industry roles refer to the internal accounting team within a company, while public accounting is working for an accounting firm that provides accounting services to other companies. For internships, most people start out working at a public accounting firm (such as the Big 4) as it gives more experience. Good luck with your switch!

    • @YukiWangYoutube
      @YukiWangYoutube  Před 2 lety

      Hi! I don’t consider myself an expert when it comes to visas. I know that people from Canada and Mexico can obtain a TN visa and other countries can obtain the H1-B which has a lottery system

    My first two full time jobs were in payroll. I'm currently studying for the CPA and graduated with an accounting degree. Is there any way I can transition to an accounting job?

    • @YukiWangYoutube
      @YukiWangYoutube  Před 2 lety

      of course! I think payroll is relevant experience for accounting and you have all the requirements for an accounting role (CPA candidate and degree)

    My buddy told me. When a church is tax exempt. The gov is paying for the pastors expenses. Car insurance, car payment, gas, etc.
    Hes telling me if the pastor files all those expenses, he gets 100% of it back when filing taxes. So hes basically telling me the gov is paying for his vehicle payment.
    This doesnt seem accurate to me. Hmmmmm
