"3D Shapes" is an After Effects template (project file), so it can be imported into your existing project. Then you can just copy and paste the 3D object that you want into your comp. Customization controls allow you to change the dimensions, add a stroke, or manipulate the shape in three dimensions. All shapes can be controlled with the 3D Transform Gizmo. Most of the shapes are built with multiple Shape layers. The cylinder and sphere are built with the CC Cylinder and CC Sphere effects. These are 2D effects, but they are modified to work more like true 3D objects. So you can control them with the 3D Gizmo, they can cast a shadow, and they react realistically to your 3D light and camera.
In addition to the sphere and cylinder, this template also includes 9 other geometric shapes - a cube, cuboid, two four-sided pyramids, tetrahedron, parallelepiped, polygonal prism, cone, and dodecahedron. The shapes are compatible with After Effects v17 and up.
