I really like Deepika but on this song her movement and expressions were never going to be anywhere near the perfection Madhuri brings to such songs, see Devdas' Kaahe Chede and you will know what I mean.

This is the difference between a trained classical dancer and a non trained dancer. Deepika did well, but without years of training and practice, this finnesse is unreachable.

What a lot of people don´t seem to understand about Kathak is that it´s a dance form that takes the natural stance and movements of a human-being into account. Kathak is harmonious for the body and just refines and makes gracious your very everyday movements. That´s the little little thing I´ve got the impression/understanding of as a very beginner Kathak student. Since Kathak is natural to the body, you might perhaps notice that anyone trained in it can easily dance any other form without looking awkward. Meanwhile, my personal observation (I might be wrong!) is that students of other classical dance forms just don´t seem to be able to leave their form at the door when doing, for example, Kathak. Deepika has had some training in Bharatnatyam and students of that form seem to make every other dance look like B.N as well. Sure, that is a credit to their rigorous training and I think B.N has its beauty. However, the other forms of classical aren´t really based on a natural stance of the human body. It´s "hard", rigid and very very difficult to learn. Kathak is flowing, natural and like floating in the water...you just move with it. Sorry, no offense, I love all classical dances. Western artists trained in ballet and contemporary have the same "problem". They cannot just do Hip-Hop and get out of their classical training. You can spot them a mile away. Cases in point: Deepika when doing this number looked like she was doing partly Bharatnatyam. Quite rigid in holding the flute. Same in Pinga..she was awesome but every arm posture and every freezing point (thehraao) was like B.N. Aishwarya Rai (trained in B.N for at least 5 years), when doing Umrao Jaan made everything look like B.N. Even her expressions are of that form. She´s a really good dancer but yeah, that´s my only grievance...like, please understand what dance-form you´re supposed to do justice to. Also watch Aishwarya´s slightly Western dances. Again, she moves her hands in that beautiful Bharatnatyam way. Just holding a hand still seems planned and "in position". There´s nothing natural and relaxed about her dances. Madhuri flows with it, be it any dance form. Makes everything look effortless and natural, not planned. I have seen her in Gajgamini and other songs where she had to do justice to other dance forms and she excels at them. If she doesn bhangra, you´ll get bhangra! If she does Jazz, you´ll get Jazz. Get my vibe? Does anyone else agree?

As a student and lover of classical dance, I wish Bollywood would focus more on showing that part of your beautiful Indian culture. Old Bollywood used to be amazing. No embararssing sasti type of crude comedy, no unnecessary exposure just to pull audiences and back then, no women-exploiting item songs. Classical dance is so away from all those things. It teaches your respect for elders, bonding with your fellow students and a care for creative arts. Kind wishes, a Pakistani Kathak lover.

Nobody would have pulled off this song after deepika did. Now the goddess herself dancing now. But I am damn sure she will not perform like this in the movie because now she is just being a dancer therefore she is adding a lot of flirtatious expressions which are damn cute and attractive (in a more clear way inviting). But if she was acting as mastani and does this routine she will not do these expressions but lesser because the idea is expressing love and impressing so she would reduce to that according to the context. Therefore none can compare this with original because the original has a context a warrior princes is dancing. Here a dancer is dancing her soul out 😍💃. There is a difference
