- In this video, Jenny reviews the 2019 Kia Picanto in its latest sporty GT trim and with a manual transmission.
This generation Picanto has been around for a few years now and it’s super popular in this segment of the market, so Kia decided to give it a “zesty” upgrade which comes to us here in Australia in the form of a GT guise.
Compared to the GT-Line which was offered last year as well, the GT has a different engine, different suspension tune, and different power steering setup.
The latest Picanto GT gets this new turbocharged 1.0 L inline 3 with 74 kW and 172 Nm of torque.
What Kia Picanto gives you is a very popular city car that just got a bit better to drive in it’s latest GT version. So long as a sporty drive is not a priority, you’ll need to look at other options for this.

I have 2 Picantos, one is for personal use which is a GT Line, my other one is a normal segment model which I will be using as a car for my driving instructor business. I love both cars, nippy great power and fantastic on City and freeways and country roads. Well done Kia on a fantastic little car.
I'm thinking of getting a used GT for driving to the countryside. Is it worth it over the regular one? Does it use much more fuel?

The review seems fair for the most part (except the car doesn't weigh over a ton, it's 945 kg if no one is on board) but I have to disagree about the gear box because it's simply superb : easy, reliable and extra smooth. Truly a pleasure to use.
I’ve own the 2017 of this body type and I use it to commute to Melbourne from Ballarat on a Daily basis. I love the gear box cause I can really quick shift through the gears but she is correct in the power side that it doesn’t have much. But in the comment about through windy roads it’s a lot of fun and in saying that I have on a few occasions had to swerve for a kangaroo at a 100km and it did it with easy and no feeling that it was going to flip. Just my two cents worth

Kia Stinger is amazing and Xceed looks like a terrific crossover. Even this Picanto looks pretty funky!

I have to disagree with so much of this review. I bought one after driving and it is more fun than Jenny lets on. If she actually took it for a decent hills run she would see that. Also, people that complain about size/features from a CITY CAR, knowing its small annoy me. Its a CITY CAR, why would you want 2 map pockets for 'snacks'. I had so much expectation for this review, only due to the fact that haven't really been reviewed much since their release. Each to their own I guess.

OK I have owned the kia picanto gt for just over 12 months and its quick
and cheap for the class but there has been some warranty issues. The
a/c has stopped cooling twice, the car some times wont accurate i have
to take my foot of the pedal and then it will accurate, I have had all
the yellow aeb and abs lights come on and the brake lights stay on I
have to put my foot under the pedal and bring it forward to turn them
off. Other then that its a great car what can you expect for the car
its cheap and fast I am sort of happy with the car. The car has done
11000km's.
The Picanto GT and GT lineup looks nice and the fact that the GT has a new engine. I still prefer the Suzuki Swift RS Sport. Nicer handling and fun to drive.
The Suzuki Sports is a much better car but about 10k more expensive.

Saw some picanto used selling for rm35000 or around 12-13kaud which is pretty good for the price..gonna buy this zesty wheeler for my wife later
even a Kia looks stunning awesome ,all and all it Jenny that's made a huge difference.
Isn't the X Line that you mentioned just a slightly elevated 'Crossover' at only about 75mms higher? Personally, i'd like a mor rugged looking Kia X Line but even higher, like a narrower Venue.ps. Has it a Digital Speedo?

It'd mid 2024 now and still no answer. Oh well. They simple don't care.
I don't know how Kia came up with fuel consumption of 5L per 100km. It's about 7L in fact. Unless they test it going downhill all the time and not stopping at any time.
I do between 6.3L on small winding hilly roads and 6.7L per 100 km in city traffic, with 2 people on board all the time and air conditioning on. 7L per 100 km seems slightly too much to me but I agree 5L per 100 km is unrealistic.

Bit strange that they build an engine like this and have it tuned to peak at only 4,500. Almost like it's made do mate to a hybrid and nothing else. They shoudl tune it up to peak around 6,000rpm and tune the suspension to match.

The 4 speed auto is excellent and much better than the manual with only 1mpg difference.
The 16" wheel variants like the GT/Line etc dont sell as they are stupid. The 3 is the one to go for although the 2 rides better.
The plastics are excellent and fit and finish is superb.
This reviewer has issues. Perhaps she should do BMW and Mercs.
4 speed auto is horrible. There is big gap between 1st and 2nd. When driving at congested traffic as low as 20km/h, the transmission sticks to 2nd and refuses to shift to 1st when you want to accelarate. Either you bottom the accelarator or wait for ages for the car to recover in 2nd
Oezalp Aral the auto is excellent and i have driven a dozen different autos over the last 30 years. my previous car had a 6 speed auto and at least 2 of those gears were not necessary!

80 hp? 🤣🤣🤣 A Vespa can go faster. Sorry to laugh at these cars but they would certainly impede traffic driving up hill roads. 😂

You can still shift between 3-4th gear on up hills.
I have the 100hp GT Line and it pretty quickly reaches the speed limits actually if you don't pay attention.
