  • I will be diagnosing an engine noise, rebuilding the rear caliper, replacing a tire and doing a minor restoration to bring it up to being roadworthy again. Finally, we will road test the bike.

Looks like an almost new bike, nice.... I own a CRF250l Rally that previous owner never maintained and abused....Some simple fixes and it runs rock solid.

Yeah, they are almost bulletproof. Lack power but reliable machines

The CZcams algorithm is kind of funny sometimes. I have a 2017 CRF250L and had the cam chain tensioner fail somewhere around 11,000 miles while in the middle of a long road trip far from home, and then the ticking sound started. It was in the middle of nowhere and so I had to ride a couple days like that to reach a major city, but eventually the motorcycle shop I stopped at correctly diagnosed the issue. The replacement part was 1-week shipping across Canada, but luckily the shop happened to be selling an older used CRF250L and they just swapped the cam chain tensioners between the bikes to get me back on the road sooner (probably put the new part in the bike they were selling later on). My bike and its old swapped cam chain tensioner is still doing good at 20,000 miles now.
Also thanks for showing the valve check. It’s something that I am way overdue on checking and it’s nice seeing a video format rather than just a picture from a shop manual.

Thanks for sharing. Those tensioners are super cheap for those. Maybe you just had a bad one.

Can you please paste a link to the same exact tensioner you got. I also have a 2017 crf 250l with only 750 miles and it also has this clicking noise……

      Honda part number 14520-K33-701
You can do an internet search for it. I order most of my parts from www.rockymountainatvmc.com

What did you use on the plastics to shine them up ?

Mother's Back to Black trim & plastic restorer. It is not a miracle worker, if your plastics are rough it may not give you the results you are looking for.

Hi my crf250l rally sounds the same but the tensioner is still good, would you recommend anything els to look at, my bike got 48k kms on

If the sound is the same it is probably a very worn chain. With that amount of kms on it you should replace your cam chain and tensioner. Check the guides for damage as well.

May I ask what cam chain model part is that?
