    Thanks for sharing. We forget that as of 1976 all 4 BEATLES were hugely successful solo artists. Some of the biggest of the 70’s.

    • @liverpoolstreetvideos2712
      @liverpoolstreetvideos2712 Před 6 lety

      All four had very successful solo careers from 1970 to 1974 especially, and produced some wonderful musis. But by 1976, John had "retired", George's previous two albums (Dark Horse and Extra Texture) & his US tour had been heavily criticised in the music press, and Ringo's hits had dried up after leaving Apple/EMI. It was only Paul who continued as a "pop star" with Wings. At that time, even the biggest stars were contracted to release an album an year. And as solo artists, rather than as a member of a band, it was impossible to keep up the exceptional standard year after year after year.

    I am just going to echo the sentiments below and say that this is THE definitive Ringo Starr interview; it's not too long after it all went down, but with enough distance to have a clear perspective. And because he's still a young guy in his 30s, he doesn't have to be so "polite". Fantastic, as always. Your channel is incredible, an absolute oasis......and one of the best secrets on the internet!!!!!! (I know I've said this a million times on your other videos). You are a true brother to all of us Beatle freaks (and music fans), a liaison between us and them. You have always understood BOTH sides of the curtain. PS: Elliot, I have a request! I would love to get your recorded memories just about the early days of rock and roll, from when you first got into it, and the records you loved, the shows you saw, the radio stations you tuned into, your memories of the collective rock and roll sociological experience you had with your own generation, and the generation that both preceded and followed you, etc... I'd even be happy to "interview" you for such a thing, I know I've got a million questions! - PSS: I hope you're safe and keeping healthy and sane during this awful time. Please take care of yourself, we need a strong and healthy Elliot Mintz!!!!!

    One more thing: your introduction. I am STUNNED to learn that John would want to listen to an interview with one of his bandmates...and your description of that moment is....(for me) incredible. I would have thought he would have been blase about such a thing, wow.

    • @elliotmintzvideos
      @elliotmintzvideos  Před 3 lety +4

      hi tic toc. after i did that interview with ringo, i spoke with john about it during a phone conversation. we rarely talked about 'beatle memories'. i explained how candid ringo was in his reportage and how 'real' he made it feel. john always loved ringo and casually suggested a bring a copy of the cassettes to japan (where i was going to vacation with him and yoko). and so, i did. i got the feeling that john did not spend a great deal of time listening to radio shows about the group. there was no reason for him to do that. but listening to ringo also speaking about life in liverpool and related sbjects seemed to capture his attention.

    I revisited this excellent interview last week (prompted by Sir Ringo's 80th Birthday celebrations) and was enthralled once more at the insightful, playful and heartfelt comments captured by Elliot back in 1976 (the 86 mins fly by all too swiftly - like so much sand through the fingers)...a true high water mark interview - the Host's low key, laid back but laser focused questioning is a lesson for any young person considering a career in journalism.....Bravo! Ringo obviously had a hard childhood and his school days will resonate with a lot of people. In fact, schools were still terrible in the 1960s and in the 1970s; some teachers were absolute sadists and got away with anything. It's no wonder that kids skived off.

I have a little question for you: in the preface to this vid, you say that shortly after you brought the tape to listen to John and Yoko ... but the holidays in Japan took place the following year, in 1977, as documented in several books I read. So this interview is from 1976, or from 1977? It is not very important, of course, it does not change anything, but just my curiosity. Thank you for reading. Best regards

    Ringo saying they would all be willing to do another gig but the problem would be deciding what to do and how to do it is a bit of a loaded answer. Seems like he is saying the problem would be getting them in a room to AGREE on anything. In other words overcoming a dysfunctional group dynamic.

    Elliot Mintz is a great interviewer. He asks questions and listens as the answers are given. Did he say he interviewed George? I'd like to hear that, too.

      Elliot Mintz did you know Paul very well at all? Love this Ringo interview, and I think I’ve listened to every john interview out there. Love your work. I was born 5 months before John was taken from us and I’ve been a massive fan since I was 16.

    it's so creepy when they start talking about being 5 years old - that's how old I was when this was recorded. i love hearing the cigarettes and cocktails (ice in glass) in the background.
