I found a big piece of Whitby jet while out collecting fossils this week. Whitby Jet is fossil wood that can be very valuable as it's used to make Jewellery. I also find some really cool fossil ammonites and some fish bone while out fossil hunting.

What is Whitby Jet made from? Is it got anything to do with oil or coal?

I found a sweet chunk of jet in my granddad's backyard who is sadly dying of dementia. It has hints of blue amber on it too. Definitely keeping it in memory of him.

I would supplement your hunt for jet by going to gem and mineral showes.and ask a tone of questions. French jet is just black glass. Happy searching!😅

Is there best conditions in which to find Jet? Ive looked and looked every week for a month.

Very cool 😎 do also cut gems or work the host rock out of the fossils? Jet has been used for jewlery for ever but it's hard to work I heard. Nice video. Take care
I have no idea how they actually carve the jet, it looks incredible once done though.
