Parry was so full of melody! He is among the top of tier of British composers! What a gift!
We, as CZcamsrs & lovers of music find much satisfaction with the efforts of people like yourself. Hope you have had just a little bit of our pleasure returned to you. Cheers
What a joyful piece - and a ravishing slow movement! Why Parry has been so neglected for so long is a mystery - but his revival is now well established. The 4th and 5th symphonies, and the Elegy to Brahms, are splendid works too.
Another great work by one of my favorite, underrated British composer from late 19th century. Such glorious music!
Vielen, vielen Dank für Ihre vielfältigen Veröffentlichungen. Habe dadurch einige neue Komponisten kennen gelernt. Sehr bereichernd. Es gibt Namen, von denen habe ich noch nie gehört.
That opening!! There are simply no words that exist that could possibly capture the pure genius of this piece, just bravo.
Yes, and it sounds English, without any of the silly folk songs!
Playing this tomorrow! (Dundas Valley Orchestra)
I love Romantic-period music, and lately I've thoroughly enjoyed discovering these under-appreciated composers.
Finally, I've found a valuable use for CZcams!
Love this symphony especially the jocular last movement which positively dances at times.
The symphony overall is a very fine piece, but I have to agree with a previous commenter that the opening minutes are especially captivating. When I first heard this symphony I found the first movement almost instantly memorable.
Yes, the first movement is glorious and very English!
Just beautiful
A favorite piece of mine and it’s so elegant and the harmony in it is unmatched.
Subtitled this "The English", went on to write the most English piece of music of all time. What a guy.
Great symphony! Well performed. I wish more orchestras would perform his and Stanford's symphonies more often.
You can say that again. They may not have gone forward and just wrote music in already established paths, but what they wrote in those paths was very often quite inspired.
Bravi to the London violins 🎻 Wonderful symphony and a beautiful performance!
Very much like Brahms, but so is Elgar. This music is instantly engaging from the very start! Love it, love it, LOVE IT! Hurrah for who the British once were.
What a wonderful symphony, this is❗
A finely crafted and attractive work, in the Brahmsian mould but with some interesting pre-echoes of Elgarian gesture. For me, the last movement seems less inspired and more four-square than the first three - but is enjoyable enough!
Great composer. Great work- Thumbs up...
Besides the classical music 👍🏼👍🏼, the paintings mostly & photographs are as the music 👍🏼👍🏼
GENIUS!
La verdad es que me ha gustado mucho esta sinfonía. Formalmente, preludia el estilo suntuoso de Elgar; en cuanto al fondo, constituye una apasionada declaración de amor del compositor hacia su país.
This is wonderfully enjoyable. It's a shame that Parry has been so neglected. Perhaps his time has come?
can listen to parry and his counterpart charles villiers stanford all day without tiring (and without desiring to conquer europe)
LOL!!! Please, post Brexit, keep listening to Parry and Stanford!
Great!
Thanks for uploading this. Some of Parry's compositions are rather trite and mechanical, but this work has drive and originality.
Agreed, I think Parry was cutting his teeth on the first two symphonies, this is in a different league.
Some of Mozart's works as well are trite and conventional. It all depends on what and how you hear and listen.
@@vince-tcturner9082 I only half agree with you. The first symphony (however skillful) indeed seems quite academic and unmemorable, but the second (Cambridge) is IMHO a true masterpiece, any bit as great as this third here, crammed with indelible melodies which grab you instantly and never leave you. It least so it was for me.
Lovely..
Amazing, this sounds so much like Brahms.
27:46 *Englishness Intensifies*
It sounds so English, and so Parry. Some parts remind me of his "An English Suite"
It's unfortunate that Parry's symphonies are almost never performed now. I've been looking on Bachtrack for months but no joy.
The rhythm reminds me of Stravinsky's Pulcinella.
Gorgeous symphony!
Anyone know what the beautiful painting is called and of course ,the artist
I looked while listening to this symphony but to no avail, luckily the next symphony of Parrys I chose someone asked about that painting and was answered so I took an educated guess this would be the same painter and it wasn't but luckily that artist brought up a page with a few unknown artists and the above painting was there :D
Edmund John Niemann: Bristol Harbour (1862)
Enjoy!

Thank you, sir
El puerto de la pintura Es idéntico al puerto de Montevideo!
Thanks for the info about the painting. It's a great piece. Marveling at paintings like this can last even longer than any enjoyment of the symphony, maybe.
HANK YOU FOR THIS POST COUD WE CALL THI BRAHMSsym5
Una sinfonia a cui si farà riferimento tutto Elgar.
Elgar comes from here.
Apart from some nice Elgarian moments in the first movement, this is quite a stodgy and unmemorable piece. Sometimes neglected works and composers earn their neglect...on the other hand Joseph Marx really should be better known. There isn't much on here but recordings are available.
I can't help thinking of Stanford's criticism of his pupils' compositions: "All Brahms and water, m'boy."
Parry really shines in his choral music. His works in that department are well known.
