  • Music writer Michael A. Gonzales remembers attending of Odell's, the club at center of the 1970s dance music craze in Baltimore, the same night as the toxic Disco Demolition Night in Chicago's Comiskey Park. This video is based on Gonzales' article "Disco Inferno '79" - / disco-sucks-79 .
Baltimore Music Map highlights people and places crucial to the city's remarkable and largely unheralded musical heritage. The project collects oral history from Baltimore music elders telling important stories at or near the settings of the stories. Emphasis is placed on the rich musical heritage of neglected Baltimore communities.
Baltimore Music Map is funded by the Maryland Traditions Project Grant and produced by Brooks Long,(2017-2018 Robert W. Deutsch Fellow at Creative Alliance) and is supported and hosted by Creative Alliance.

I had wrote part of a screenplay in the 2000s based on Odells. It was going to be similar to Saturday night fever but with better music. Can you imagine people dancing in a movie theater 🕺🏾💃🏽 you'll know if you belong

The fashion in Baltimore was just as fresh as any other city in this country. I remember wearing suede shoes and Italian knits in junior high school. My mom's stopped laying out my clothes in elementary.
