I see Carpenters and automatically hit the like button, LOL But that lyric "In my own time, nobody knew the pain I was goin thru." Such a prophetic line. :/
Sad words for sure. I remember how upset my friends and I when we found out when she died. 1983, I was helping plan our 10 year high school reunion. Shocked about her. BAck then we didn't hear about stars problems until they got arrested or died. She was too good for this cruel world.
There's a ton of that prophetic-sounding stuff in the lyrics they recorded...whether or not Richard and John (Bettis) wrote a particular song. This one, Goodbye To Love, Eve, A Song For You and a slew more. I remember one afternoon in 1983 coming through the front door of my folks' house, and my younger brother (who is a musician himself now), sitting on the couch, blurting out "Karen Carpenter died"...I wouldn't have been any more shocked if instead he'd walked over and punched me...
Mad props, indeed, Deep Track Reacts! Richard was all over the duo's arrangements, production, and orchestrating to a level few knew or appreciated! As someone noted above, 'twas Richard who wrote the song with frequent collaborator, John Bettis ("Top of the World," "Goodbye to Love," "Yesterday Once More"). Bettis, from Long Beach, and at 73, still with us, later wrote hits for Michael Jackson ("Human Nature"), Madonna ("Crazy for You"), Jennifer Warnes ("Nights Are Forever"), Ronnie Milsap ("Only One Love in My Life"), and co-wrote the theme song to the '80s sitcom, "Growing Pains," "As Long as We Got Each Other." In 2011, Bettis was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Her death probably saved many many more lies. 😭 I don't think anorexia nervosa was talked about much before her passing. So tragic. I just loved her so much when I was a kid, I just wanted to sing just like her.
In a world where everyone is looking at you, some kindly and others more often critically, it must be hard to keep in touch with yourself, yes she was loved but she was treated very badly by some too, and it stuck, she deserved so much better.
Lobster Hi! I'm 63 as well! I used to listen to The Carpenters in my early teens! I LOVED them! Their music is just what I liked! Take care and stay safe!

Had she stayed behind the kit, as she'd have liked to, she'd quite likely be with us yet. KC would be 70 now. There are a few videos of her drumming and, when you compare her facial expressions in those to the ones where's she's out front singing, there is no doubt which of the two musical pursuits brought her joy...
@@stevetournay3731 No she wouldn't lol. Just because someone looks happy doesn't mean they are. 🤦 There were so many other factors that played a role in her development of anorexia, her mother's lack of appreciation and affection for her, the publicists/journalists or the media judging her, and the lack of control she had to express herself and being under her brother's shadow all her life. 🤦 if she couldn't accept John Lennon's compliment about her voice, then no amount of her being back behind her drums would have fixed all those problems. That's an interesting one because the lyric dates to the '40s...written as a Christmas poem by Frank Pooler, and set to music by Richard Carpenter in 1970. Been listening to these for years when my mom introduced me to the Carpenters at an early age. I’m glad everybody’s rediscovering the old songs. I hope music comes back to something like this when music really was wonderful to listen to, and people actually sang.
I grew up with my mum listening to the carpenter's, Karen's voice was so beautiful and angelic, one of my all time faves, I have so many of their tracks on my play list. Love them so much, great reaction fella. 🇬🇧💞👍😁🇬🇧💞👍😁
You hit the nail on the head at 6:45. I just left a user of a bf of 17 years. I did it for me, so I can be me. now a month in, I'm seeing who my true friends are. Some give full support of my strength, some slander me about the ending. Cherish the ones who are proud of you, and support you, even if they wouldn't do it themselves. And take care of yourself, no one else will. Love, peace, and life. Thanks jamel, for this reaction. 😊
Jamel, the happiness and joy on your face when you listen to the Carpenters, is exactly how we all feel when we listen to them. As you said, Uplifting!
I always felt that the lyricists for the Carpenters knew Karen closely. The inner Karen. And their words were of and about her. She identified, and the results were always to the heart.
Such a beautiful voice, a beautiful person and a beautiful woman.... She didn't realize she had it all.... May she be resting well... The world misses you
One great thing about these reaction videos is to see The Carpenters, Abba and The Bee Gees played alongside Led Zeppelin, PInk Floyd and Deep Purple without any comment. Believe me, for about 40 years YOU COULD NOT DO THAT.
I love that you said Karen has a voice that will last a lifetime! The Carpenters were the first band that I loved as a little girl way back in the 70’s. My own musical journey through the 70’s, 80’s and beyond has led me to so many amazing sounds and bands I will love for a lifetime. But, there will never be another group like the Carpenters or another beautiful singer like Karen, for me 💕

Richard was is a genius. The way he arranged and orchestrated his music to complement Karen's songs was simply amazing!!!
Absolutely 😎 Richard is a Musical Genius
Richard was great Karen was extrodinary and without her there was no carpenters!!
Plus many of the harmonies were sinply multiple layers of Karen and Richards own voices, so a perfect match and no need to hire background singers.
Karen's performance on the drums in this song is superb.
Karen didn't just sing for the ears. She got a leased line to the heart and the soul, and poured pure beauty into it.

Jamel she was a special special gift, but sadly she couldn't see how much she was loved!

What a talent. Her voice pulled at your heartstrings. Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia took her away, but it did bring awareness to these devastating disorders.. PBS did a fabulous documentary with the help of her brother on her career and trials and tribulations. Was very well made. Thanks for reacting to the Carpenters. RIP Karen. ❤
There's that angelic voice again.
Man, her voice is like honey. So smooth and sweet. Very angelic voice. They had some great songs.
I always felt that the lyricists for the Carpenters knew Karen closely. The inner Karen. And their words were of and about her. She identified, and the results were always to the heart.
Jamal you're so kind and you have an OLD SOUL Thank You My Friend
