      I really appreciate you saying, thank you 💙 my old work station had all my equipment on the desk in the way, so when I setup my new studio I made sure everything had its own spot out of the way ☺️

    I’m a beginner and just wanted you to know confirm you dry the paint between each layer. Thank you for the video. Your work is beautiful!

    • @ChristopherMaxwellArt

      Yeah that’s best if you don’t want everything to blend together, but in some situations you may want that. Thanks for watching 💙

      @@ChristopherMaxwellArt that was the question I was going to ask bc I can't tell you if you let everything dry between layers on this painting.

    • @ChristopherMaxwellArt
      @ChristopherMaxwellArt  Před 3 měsíci +2

      In this particular video I’m drying each layer with a hair dryer before painting the next. I’m pushing the layers further than I normally would with dark colours to demonstrate that the paper can actually handle more than you may think and it is possible to layer darker colours. It’s not always the best option but it’s something worth playing around with 💙

    Hi are you waiting for the layers to dry in between the layers? I’m wondering how you’re avoiding cauliflowering?

  • @navrozdhami
    @navrozdhami Před rokem +5

    do you allow the paper to dry completely between each layer?

    • @ChristopherMaxwellArt
      @ChristopherMaxwellArt  Před rokem +5

      Yes that’s correct 😊 for this video mostly every layer is completely dried before more colour is applied 💙 if you’re building up a dark area it’s the best approach

    Thanks for the video! It was really helpfull! 😄
    I assume, I'm using too much water for the new layer, when it feels it is only washing the previous layer away instead of adding new darker layer. 🤔

    • @ChristopherMaxwellArt
      @ChristopherMaxwellArt  Před rokem +1

      You’re welcome 💙 could be a number of reasons, water consistency is important. The paper and pigment quality also impacts the result. Every time you apply a wash it will lift and shift previously laid pigment/paint, and it’s going to be far more noticeable with darker colours. Keep experimenting and try different things, use the washes as a building process not as the finial layer 💙 enjoy 😃

    Can you tell me the name of the liquid you add as dots and then you remove it.

    Sorry but thought the background colour wfar too dark for the subject and the stingray itself seemed far too overworked. It was just lost in the background and looked far nicer with the fresh orange when it was revealed. It had far better contrast. Sorry to be critical but it was just far better halfway through.

    • @BrandiWineRn
      @BrandiWineRn Před 3 měsíci +4

      Sry but this comment is kinda rude and those are just personal preferences that u are talking about and u missed the whole point he was trying to teach . Sry but ppl on internet can be very rude . Don’t have anything positive to say then don’t say anything at all .

    • @tabbi888
      @tabbi888 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@BrandiWineRn not all criticism is negative sometimes our intention is actually meant to be constructive, pointing out that sacrificing contrast just for the sake of layering often results in overworking, and a work that's too dark overall. That's not really subjective but an objective fact if you can't distinguish the subject from the background from a distance you need to change it to improve your future work. Sorry for being truthful I guess, no point teaching anything if your demonstration is badly done.
