- I hope you enjoy this 4k Hastings, UK walking tour from trendy George Street to Jerwood Gallery. It's part of our where to go on Britain, and walks in the British seaside walking tours.
Beginning in George Street, a vibrant hub of independent boutiques, coffee shops and pubs. A detour along Courthouse Street takes us to antique shops before we head back up High Street.
Waterloo Passage by the side of the First In Last Out pub guides us to All Saint's Street with it's historic Tudor buildings before leading us down to the seafront.
Just before the Cliff Railway is the famous Jerwood Art Gallery - which sits amongst the Hastings Fisherman's Museum, the Hastings Miniature Railway, the fisherman's huts and boats of the local fishing fleet.

Some of the shops have changed, since I was last there, but it’s still the most beautiful place on Earth! 😍🥰❤️
Such wonderful memories! Thank you 🥰❤️🥰❤️
So pleased to have brought back happy memories to you Brit! All the best to you.
the old town is so freaking beautiful omgg
Yes this part of it is very attractive isn't it?
its a drug infested shit hole
Its a damn Theme Park
im from germany and i had been an exchange student there, it was pretty nice, love this town
How nice to hear that you enjoyed it, hope this helped to bring back happy memories?
I'm frm Sweden, and I went to Hastings for a year with EF language school, then I lived with my now ex in Bexhill. I'm still residing in the UK, in Suffolk, however I'm always returning to Hastings and my kids love it. My husband is English. We now live in Suffolk
Me too.
So true. I'm Swedish, and I too, was a language student in Hastings in 96/97 and then I lived in Bexhill. I'm still living in England, in another town and I'm hoping to move back, once my youngest child is about 15. Missing my first home, Hough I'm trying to go and visit twice a year and I can't wait to visit, now the easing of the lockdown has started
@@darkangelw8472 I was a language exchange student in 97 too :-) I'm from Poland and one of the girls I lived in one room with was from Sweden.
Wow very touristy..beautiful, thx❤
Ah yes especially on a busy summer weekend as this was.
My hometown, left around 2010 and about 300 miles north to Darlington ( well I firstly moved to Newcastle). The last time I was in Hastings was 2014 for my mother's funeral, unfortunately I couldn't make the trip a few years later for my dad's funeral due to long-term health issues. Lately I do miss Hastings but again due to my health issues it's very unlikely I'll ever revisit, watching things like this does bring back memories of my 40 year's in the town.
Hello there @samnpoppythedog4416. How nice to wake up to your message. It does make doing the channel worthwhile to know the films can bring a little bit of folks hometowns back to them, our hope is that it can be an 'as close to being there experience' as possible. Thanks for taking the time to drop by.
Lovely! Thanks
Our pleasure!
So beautiful !!!!
Thank you Ksenija, pleased you liked it. All the best.
Live in this town 🥰
Hope you like it there K?
Going to be there next week, thanks for letting me have a glimpse in advance
Ah you're most welcome AP, so pleased to be of help.
Thank you for the tour! I grew up in a coastal city so it's always fascinating to see what other coastal towns and cities look like.
Hi Russell, very pleased to bring it to you. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Beautiful town, never been but i want to now.
Hope you get to go and enjoy it John.
thank you so much
Thanks for dropping by friend, a pleasure to hear from you and we're pleased you enjoyed walking with us.
Love all your video's and looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.
You're really welcome Ma.
Thank you, I lived here until I was 11 - such wonderful childhood memories. I still prefer shingle beaches to sand!
Ah so nice to have such happy memories of where you grew up. I love the way shingle beaches seem to make the sea look more blue... or is that my imagination?
okay my next place to visit then!! thanks for this.
Have a 'top' time there friend!
Looks like a great place to visit, relax and unwind.
We rather enjoyed our day there I must admit!
Wow, that Herring Gull nearly had you at 19.55. Lovely video of Hastings Old Town. Thank you!
Ha ha Chris, yes indeed, they can be strangely unnerving for such small creatures. All the best to you.
Thanks for the video, we are visiting soon so this was such a lovely preview!
Our pleasure Penni, hope you have a good time and the sun shines on you. I have a few more video's in the area, if you feel like another day trip sometime.
Great footage, l go to Hastings at least three times a year. You've shown me streets l didn't even know we're there. Can't wait for next visit👍
How nice you can visit so often Fiona, we're so pleased to hear you like it. I do hope you get to visit again someday soon. All best wishes.
My nephew was studying at Hasting a few years ago, beautiful place.
Hope this brought back happy memories of your visit to him Virginia?
Loved Hastings when i was there in January 2020, especially the ocean. Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it A, good of you to drop by.
@@LivingWalks Thank you as always. By the way just out of curiosity how do you get to travel so much?
Hi @@AKRICH7, we work remotely and sometimes use home exchange, all the best to you.
@@LivingWalks Ok, what ever you do for a living man, you must very happy with it. I think you are so lucky that you get to travel and explore so much. Good luck on your future adventures and your channel. Stay safe :)
Coming here this weekend never been looks really nice

I love this town.
Then I'm pleased to have brought the town to you again Tenn. All the best.
I love this place . Golden hands is my favourite shop
Glad to bring the town to you when you feel you'd like to revisit. all the best to you.
Nice walk. Always great to be able to see a side of the world through your videos. Thank you! Happy holidays! : )
And through your eyes too AW
Excellent - well done
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for dropping by.
Great video, will have to visit there soon.
Thank you Phil, hope you get to visit and enjoy your time there. All the best.
Enjoyable 👋
Thank you Debra.
Great video of the Old Town, one of my favourite parts of Hastings. As a local I am always interested to see other people's views of our town, and yours was certainly up my street. Just one thing though, if I was walking with you, I would not be able to keep up! At first I thought you must have been on a bike or scooter but then when you went onto the beach I could hear your footsteps on the shingle. You are one fast walker! Thanks for the upload.
Ha ha, Glad you enjoyed it on balance Keith. The gopro camera certainly gives the impression of walking even faster than we were. The dji pocket not so much (and we've learned to slow down too!), so you'll see our later video's are much slower. thanks for your feedback, I do appreciate it.
This video is great. Nice job! I had not thought of including Hastings as a destination for my content but will now. Beautiful on a sunny day!
Thanks fellow walker. I enjoyed your West Malling walk too, good to be in contact.
RIP QUEEN ELIZABETH
@@adolflenin4973 indeed so.
From Germany: Exchange student from 2008. I will travel again to this place. The seagulls were all special. 😂 😂 😂 😂
Hi Ferg101, ha ha most people hate them but I'm with you and rather like them!
Ahh brings back memories. George Street used to be the start of a Saturday pub crawl into town. Miss my home town very much and looking forward to returning there next year for a holiday wemy Mrs. Brought her here in '17 &' 18. She loved it.
Hi Paul - I guess you've seen some changes in George street over the years!?
Just one or two but it looks largely the same. The same pubs are still there but some businesses have either shut or upped sticks.

Thank you for this video. At 9.43 is my favourite Hastings pub; the FILO. I make a point of visiting in when ever I visit Hastings from my home in Dundee. in fact, I have been doing this for over 30 years.
Hi there Jim, how nice to receive your message. I'll have to drop by to the FILO when I'm next there. Over 30 years... you must think it a good one! All the very best to you and thanks for your nice comment.
@@LivingWalks Thank you too. Unfortunately, I've had to cancel my spring trip due to the Corona virus. That makes it all the more important that sites like yours continue to publicise our places of beauty so when the crisis is over, these places can revive.
@@jimgordon1563 So sorry to hear that Jim, same here. I hope it's helpful in any way at all to promote all theses cities. Thanks for your help in keeping our channel going, please do subscribe if you are happy to. All the best to you.
I really enjoyed this. My son is moving there very soon and we can't wait to visit him and explore. You have made it all the more interesting.
Oh we’re really happy to hear that. It makes it all worthwhile, to be able to help. Hope he enjoys his stay there.
I moved to Hastings 2yrs ago. Never been happier, x
@@ltj18taylor73 Thanks for that. He can't wait and we have a feeling we may not be far behind. Full of life and loads of interesting history. :)

My family and i are thinking of leaving London this year, Hastings is on the list of possibilities along with Margate, Windsor, Tunbridge Wells, Guildford and Farnham, London has lost its appeal
Lived in hastings 1983 - 1986 drank in
The crypt, hastings punk & skins.
Happy days
Must have been quite a time Ian!
Visited this town from China back in 2008 when I was 16. Now I live in the US, still miss the fish n chips from the Beach Retreat restaurant.
Hi there KK, so pleased you have happy memories of Hastings. I wonder if the beach Retreat restaurant is still there, did you spot it? Thanks for dropping by.
@@LivingWalks I actually forgot the name of it when I tried to write this comment so I looked it up on google map. The street view looks exactly the same so it is still there! The name is Beach Retreat Fish & Chips restaurant.
@@kksan Oh thanks for the tip, we'll have to visit when we're next there.
1 of my favourite walks with the dog,he loves meeting all the humans in the old town
He must have taste, as it is a rather nice route isn't it Jason.
It’s a beauty ,even better if you go up to the east hill and take it all in.
Thanks for the tip Jason, I'll have to do that next time. All the best to you and thanks for connecting.
No problem at all,it is a great video and a pleasure to watch 👍
All the best to you Jason.
My home town" born and bred in Hastings. I know the place so well worked and played and explored everywhere I could.
Hope it's brought back happy childhood memories for you Terry?
@@LivingWalks . It did and I still miss hastings. I used to explore all and every corner and street I could find. It has changed but still the same town I remember. The only thing I found that had gone when I went back a few years ago was my old school" priory road school or hastings secondary school for boys" priory road. It's all gone apart from one building.
ah, I hope you get to visit again sometime Terry. I'd love to film in Liverpool too someday.
@@LivingWalks I will return to hastings. Liverpool is just stunning" the city blows you away and it's like walking round new York. Buildings just seem to keep going up and up. Fantastic place to just walk around and film.
I agree Terry, we visited last year and I loved it, especially as we're massive Beatles fans.
I live in bexhill and my parents work in one of those shops it was an antique shop but now they own it and is a rlly cool shop
Oh great F! Perhaps we passed it?
Lovely, going here later this year.
Your video has given me lots of ideas of places to see.
Many thanks :)
So pleased to have been of help, hope you enjoy it.
God, what a beautiful place! I recently found out that here was one of the locations of the movie "I want you" with my beloved Rachel Weisz. And I found the right place! )
Now I really want to visit here sometime.
Hello there RL, I've not heard of "I want you" but I'll look that up. Glad you enjoyed Hasting! All the best to you.
@@LivingWalks Thanks.
Watch this movie. I'm sure you'll immediately recognize the location from Hastings. For 25 years, this street has not changed much. Another location, by the way, is in Dungeness.

I'd love to go to this place, then time I'm in Hastings
I hope that happens for you someday Annika, all the best to you.
Hi, looks like an interesting video, I used to live in Hastings and know the place quite well. Nice image quality. Are you also using a separate microphone to record sound and play it under the video?
Hi Solaris - thanks for the feedback. We generally record separately and then choose between that and the GoPro's internal mic when it comes to edit.
It’s weird to think this is a holiday for some people but for me it’s just a pop into town
Ha ha, yes we're from Leigh on sea and often feel the same way. All the best to you friend.
Hastings seems way more colourful than I remember it.
Oh is that so sq? Hope you enjoyed the walk. All the best to you.
@@LivingWalks Your video was good! I liked it.
Thanks snazzy, love your name by the way.
It's a very nice city. I was there with my family on holiday last year.
I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to say hello.
jemand hat mal gesagt, die engländer sind eine nation von kleinladenbesitzern. aber genau das liebe ich so!
Interessant zu hören, Andreas. Vielen Dank für Ihren Besuch.
A very interesting tour around Hastings - have stayed there for a week, in the past. I only question the walk through the second-hand-junk shop, it seemed ( to me ) unimportant and irrelevant, and an odd choice to make. However, the remaining walk was excellent. A great destination, unlike St Leonards-On-Sea, just up the road, which ( again, to me ) was the pits by comparison, and best to avoid.
Hi there Mr Torleon, so pleased to have received your honest feedback, we very much value that. Interesting point about the walk through the junk shop, it seemed interesting at the time but you may well have a point, as it's not everyone's cup of tea. Glad you enjoyed the remaining walk and thanks again for taking the time to connect.
@@adolflenin4973 Pleased you enjoyed it friend.
@@LivingWalks I really loved the junk shop tour it gives you an idea of the vibe of a place.
Fantasic! Do you use a gimbal?
Hi James, thanks for stopping by. Yes we do, the GoPro has some stabilisation built in, but its not good enough on it's own yet.
Very nice, smooth camera work too. What kit are you using? I did not get to see this bit of Hastings so this is very interesting to see. Keep up the good work 😎👍❤️
Hi! Thanks for the lovely comment. We're using a GoPro - (I've listed the kit we use at the bottom of the description.) This is part of why we do the filming - we want to share some of the places that don't get seen that often, but that are full of character.
so nice plis back
Please you liked it BVR.
Nice camera work, what camera are you using? Steve
Morning Steve, we use the DJI Pocket!
is there any snows in this town?
Well it has been known to snow Omar, generally between December and February.

This is the best part of Hastings....unfortunately much of the seafront towards St.Leonards is rundown.

Brings back faint memories, the last time I was in Hastings was 2014 for my mother's funeral. This video even tho it's top banana, would of been better if done so the viewer would of had a 360° view.
Sorry to hear your last visit was on such a sad occasion. Thanks for the feedback too, perhaps one day?
You walked past the house that's shaped like a portion of cheddar cheese.
Oh ha ha, is that so Graham?

err where's the beach dude
Hiya mamsf, we do hope to go back and do a dedicated beach walk but this one was just concentrating on the town itself. Hope to bring you the beach footage as soon as we can. All the bet to you.
george street use to be full of junk shops with stuff people did not want to buy! Now its full of expensive junk shops with stuff people do not want to buy!
Ha ha gm, I just rather like the cafes there, all the best to you
@@LivingWalks I was born and bred in the Old Town 1/2 mile up the High Street and have seen Hastings go from one extreme to the other now so overpriced only Out Of Londoners can afford to live there.
It's quite boring quiet place I feel
Well we were only there for the day, so I wouldn't be sure how interesting it might be for longer.
Ngl its a junkie area and the streets are gross asf im there right now
Oh dear!
@@LivingWalks I saw 2 people use heroine in 10 minutes too
Your all acting like it’s a good place it’s just full of druggys and weirdos
Oh is that so Bob, sorry to hear that.
its an awful place. Cost del dole in the early 80s til the late 90s. Terrible crime rates and mostly ugly. The old town is lovely and has pulled its self up . But the rest of the town has a long long way to go before it can cover its past. The best thing about Hastings is the sign in your rear view mirror as you leave.
Oh ha ha Z, so not too keen then?
@@LivingWalks not really. if you new Hastings in the late 60s early 70s it was lovely then . During the 80s it was the most neglected south coast town when it came to money being ploughed in to it.
