Mitsuri would probably be more inclined to protect Obanai so maybe only she would die instead of the two of them or maybe she'd wanna get even stronger to protect him so they'd both live

Tbh I think it was earned and they're one of my favorite couples
For me it didn't feel random at all. I remember texting a friend saying "why am I low key shipping these two?" and that was waaaay before the final battle revelation so the signs might have been there all along (I don't usually ship for the sake of shipping)

How about one that would be like a crossover of Romeo and Juliet, the Butterfly Lovers and Obanai and Mitsuri's love story? I watched a HK series called Romeo and his Butterfly Lover and gave it 6.7/10 because the series' love couples' chemistry didn't give enough substance to their audience. If there had been a third couple being based on an anime couple, I would have given it 8.1/10.

One thing I'd like to point out is that Kanroji doesnt ACTUALLY care abou a man being stronger than her or not... MEN care about it so that's why she sought it out. What kanroji cares about is being loved by a man. I heard you mention how they dont fit teh traditional gender norms which is true, but keep in mind demon slayer is a period epic so the men of that time are gonna be hella insecure about a woman who runs around scantily clad and is physically stronger (or taller) than them. That doesnt mean she as a character cared about it though.

@KryptonianSaiyan yeah but the craziest (and mushiest) part about all this is when you really break it down, their love is quite simple. Both get to be themselves around the other.
Iguro doesnt eat but he doesn't complain that she eats alot, he doesn't talk but she doesn't complain bc he listens, he's weaker and smaller but she likes his intelligence and coolheadedness.
He thinks she pretty, because she's unique not inspite of it, she also likes that she makes people smile, something he can't do. It's like the simplest love story that they can be their normal selves.
It's funny bc I thought this pairing made no sense when I read demon slayer, but as you said it's really upon their deaths that I understood what they saw in each other.
