    I was looking at this product. I've been getting ads for it. I'm thankful to have found your sourdough starter recipe, 'Cause now I have a VERY strong starter, and feel confident that it'll still activate during the cold months. I use your maintenance method, and found that my starter still wants to bubble through the layer of flour that I put on top, while even being in my cold fridge.

      I am so glad you're enjoying my SD method! If it's still this active while in the fridge, you may need to mix more flour into it and pile some on top 👍 ~ Anja

    I just use the oven method with the light, which keeps my starter a bit to hot @98% so this looks like a much better idea. Thank you, I'll look into this.

      I think the oven method works really well - until it doesn't ... I actually just scorched something else that I typically store in the oven but forgot about it when turning on the broiler 🔥 😳. But yes, check out the Goldi ~ Anja

    It’s a little pricey for a gadget that does just one thing. With that said, it really is a very good idea. Thanks for demonstrating it.

    What happens if the temperature is too hot? My sourdough has some bubbles but not.rising like it initially did on day 2. Now on day 6. The kitchen is about 30-32°C

    Hi, thanks for demonstrating. I live in Melbourne, Australia, where it is a cold region. I have been struggling with my stater. I purchased the Goldie and I received it today. My question is, does the warming plate feel quite warm? Mine doesn't. I fed my starter this morning & by the afternoon, it still hasn't moved much. I am wondering if I wasted my money.

    Hi Anna. Thank you for the review.
    #1. What temperature does it hold the starter at?
    #2. Would a quart glass jar fit on the black base and under the glass dome?
    Thank you. Sue🌻

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  Před 11 měsíci

      As far as I know the Goldie keeps your SD starter at 75-82 degrees F. And yes, you can fit a quart size mason jar under the dome. Hope this helps ~ Anja

      @@OurGabledHomeplease help. My starter is made of homemade yogurt and milk and rye flour and caraway seeds .I put it in a thick sock and wrapped it in Ace bandage ,I placed it in an open crock pot. And turned it on warm and wrapped a towel around the sides inside the pot . It felt warm. .and then measured the liquid inside after 5 days.
      I measured the temp of the liquid. Almost 125° . Do I need to start over or can I do something to get it going. It also tastes vinegary .please help .

    Hi. I use your sourdough method of keeping my starter in fridge and then pulling it out when I’m ready to bake. Would you just pull out your starter and warm it up on this device and then put the starter back in the fridge? Wasn’t sure if this is meant for starter you have on your counter all the time. Thanks

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  Před 9 měsíci

      You can use it either if you're keeping your SD starter on the counter, if you're making more than one SD recipe back-to-back, or after you pull it out of the fridge (but then it might be ready in about 4 hours rather than 8) ~ Anja

    You asked about how the caraway seeds benefit fermentation in things.. Here is the answer
    Caraway essential oils have an antimicrobial action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi.
    So it makes a positive environment for good yeast to grow.

    I thought access to oxygen was important for sourdough starter to become active… but this gadget is a closed environment. I usually leave my lid ajar when activating my sourdough… is that not necessary?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  Před 11 měsíci +2

      I would say there is enough oxygen under the glass cloche that it's not a problem. Also, it's more about adding oxygen while stirring than later on, since it's only the surface of the starter that is exposed to oxygen 😊 ~ Anja

  • @Equinoxious342
    @Equinoxious342 Před 11 měsíci +3

    Just junk. It can’t prove your dough so not much of a help. It can’t keep the starter cool. It can if you use the puck thing you keep in the freezer but you’ve got to remember to put it in the freezer beforehand and it is only minimally effective especially in higher temps - the dome isn’t insulated.
    And its expensive. Stupidly so. The glass dome is fragile and vulnerable; it has to be lifted over the sourdough starter jar. On jars, have a look how much this joke company is charging for their jars 😂😂😂😂
    Instead of this, look at either the Brod & Taylor sourdough home (or even their incredibly useful proofer) or the Ivyx Scientific incubator. Slightly more expensive but can do so much more.
    A typical review by a youtuber who was supplied a product to keep or return. Don’t be fooled.
