The Ameriglobe building just inside Louisville near the hospital is a 4 story open plan office with roof access, surrounded by woodlands, opposite a water feature near a gas station and a very large warehouse/factory zone. Destroy the ground floor stairs and creating rope access makes this base safe and roomy, the massive windows also allow for indoor gardens that grow during winter.

Do you remember the days when you could just put a single microwave at the bottom of a staircase and be safe? That was a laugh, but at least destroying staircases seems to be effective and totally realistic.

I personally love the church in Fallas Lake. It has two buildings, and one has two stories, a fridge and two ovens by default. There’s a bit of roof tile glitching on the second floor which you can get rid of by destroying with a sledge. It also starts next to a lake with a barbecue already right next to it. Once the town is clear it only takes a couple of days to gather all of the resources and move them into ice freezers and such. To the south on the way to rosewood is a paved road to the leading west that has an Ice Cream shop with two ice freezers inside with next to zero population. Yoink those and you’re set up for late game. Did I mention a gas station within walking distance?

I don't think I've ever actually cleared not-Ekron. I remember raiding it's book store one time. Literally a run in the front door being chased by zombies, pause scan the shelves for the magazine I wanted, and flee out the back.

I sometimes to base in fallas lake as well but I do it in the gas station itself. It's kinda hard to fence since I tend to include the whole gas station but once you do, it's well worth it since you only need 1 generator to power your home and gas station.

Nobody ever talks about the fishing house a long the river in riverside. That place is hands down one of my favorite places to hunker down. There is a grocery store, a restaurant, and a gas station all within walking distance. Infinite fishing and forest for all your building and food needs. Plus there are 2 pre-built rain collector barrels in the main house itself. And if necessary you're a small drive away from the abandoned warehouse. Definitely feels like this base has been slept on by every content creator I've found so far.

My favorite base location has to be the gas station on the "Doe valley" region located on the road between Rosewood and Riverside. It's a small town with some relevant resources(medical center, book store, supply stores, restaurants, a market, police station) and low zombie population -- at least I didn't have a hard time clearing and it seemed to have much less zombies than Rosewood. The gas station will provide you infinite gas -- hence electricity -- and it's right next to a pond with unlimited water for fishing and watering crops. It's positioned close to the center of the map so you will be right next to the road and a couple hours alway from Riverside, Rosewood, Muldraugh and West Point.

Another location I enjoy is the general store far west from Riverside. It's right by the river and there is a small gas station just down the road. Not many resources in the area but very low zombie count. You can hunt and farm to survive and make trips to Riverside from time to time.

I have my own quirks when choosing a base.
I always want to live in a small unique building, that has space for me to customize and redecorate.
I don’t like large multi story buildings, where most rooms will never be used as anything but more storage space. So I try to keep the room count small and controlled and limited to necessities.
I also dislike multi story buildings.
Sure the META is to live in a second floor with the stairs removed, but I want to use the whole building and don’t want to climb the stairs much.
This means I will rarely move into a normal house, since they are usually so well done, that I would end up doing little customization. However I am fond of gas stations and small food stores. They are usually single story with few rooms and gas access. If it weren’t for the double length shelves you can’t remove. I really dislike them
Also I like to move. Once my character gains a certain level of power and resources I will just leave the home and move to another city. Both for the challenge and because there is a difference between customization that you do with an untrained survivor that can’t move a washing machine and one that has lvl 4 electric and lvl 10 carpentry

My current run pretty much follows that pattern. Set up in a two story house on the edge of the trailer park to survive the first week. Move to the north muldraugh warehouse for a couple of months. Finally set up in my permanent base once I'm geared up and skilled up.

  • @QwertyCaesar
    @QwertyCaesar Před 9 měsíci +3

One I like that straddles the line between unique safehouse and unique base is the radio station in the middle of the woods near the Riverside trailer park. No nearby water but plenty of foraging opportunity for food, chipped stones, and branches for axes and trees so you can make rain collectors. Fences that are indestructible around most of the perimeter. Enough room inside that you can make designated areas and store things. Enough room to plant crops. It's far enough away so that hordes will never come by on their own. Most players will never go near it if they even know about it to begin with. Not big enough for an outright base in multiplayer with many players but it can fit two or three well enough. You can hole out in it well enough during the summer and it's viable to stay there during the winter if you have enough food prepped first as there's plenty of firewood around.
It's by no means an A+ base but it's uniwue and has some fun elements to it, especially for roleplay purposes.

The Rosewood grocery store is an amazing base, Covers all needs easily. Knock out the stairs and you have huge building potential on the second floor + roof. Every possible resources is nearby also, trees behind it, auto shop and gas station to the north. Book store and walk in clinic across the street. Police & Fire station to the south, Good road access also as you can drive the road in front of the grocery store or drive behind it all the way to the auto shop and gas station with little in the way to stop you. Natural entrances and escapes all over the building except for the north side. One of my favorite spots for sure!

The bar on the west end of riverside is usually my first base location. Lots of space, woods accessible, easy enough to get to the downtown to build up a cache of tools and supplies and books early on, and is a pretty quick walk to the river if needed. Zombies can become a problem after a while which is why it's more of an early game base used to build up quickly and then eventually migrate somewhere else.

The Mounted Police building in bottom left corner of the big park in Louisville is one of the best and coolest base locations in Louisville. The building only has 4 windows on one side, and an archway big enough for cars. You can barricade the windows easily and block off the main entrance until you can build a double gate for your cars. The building has an open courtyard so you can work on farming and mechanics in safety. The building is so big that Zeds won’t hear your generator if you put it in the center of the courtyard. The building also has beds, lockers, sinks, bathroom, office, small armory, and two storage rooms with plenty of shelf space and crates. The area around the building has a big parking lot, a small white fence surrounding the area, stacks of logs, 3 large rain barrels, a barn, and a horse training area with small pond. The park has tons of trees, and trapping there is great. There is also a lake for fishing. The visitor’s center diagonally across at the other corner of the park has an antique oven you can take for heating and cooking. There are some houses nearby on a cul-de-sac with garages too. The street nearby has everything you need to survive. There is a big garden center, book store, pawn shop, police station, animal vet, garage/tire store, several restaurants, small mall, and big Gigamart. There are 2 gas stations within walking distance too, one across from the small mall and one at the other end of the street. The area neighborhoods has lots of garages to loot.
The best part about the Mounted Police building as a base is the park is centrally located for easy loot runs, whether you walk or drive. The park has a lot of tall fences around the perimeter, so large large hordes won’t just migrate in and overrun you.
    Check it out!

Also, most people are intimidated by the challenge of the game. and instead of finding ways to deal with them, they find ways to remove them.
Trust me when i say respawn off is not as ideal as people think at first, and respawn on is not as bad as they imagine.
Same for loot rarity. This game excels when the loot rarity is as low as possible. im talking lowest rarity and unlucky trait. You always needs SOMETHING.
And for water? ive run out a few times in my favorite playthrough. I took hemophobic, so washing clothes was something i needed to do often. And with cigs/lighters being rare, i couldnt just smoke the anxiety away every time with reckless abandon.
Same for outdoorsmen and cat eyes. I used to take them religiously, but since stopping i refuse to ever take them again. I now play with darkness up and have a reason to use flashlights often or being afraid of the night. I now actually experience the gameplay loop of dealing with illness, as well as needing to avoid running through trees.
i have 1600+ hours in this game. I used to get bored and stop or start over before winter. i tried all kinds of population and zombie settings. I NEVER used guns, tailoring, fishing, or cooking.
With this playthrough, in which the settings work like above, im not only finishing my first winter, but entering the month of May. And im not close to running out of things i want to do. I never enjoyed a playthrough this much. I even used every skill i didnt use before.
tailoring is huge. and guns are needed if you want to kill large amounts of zombies withouth spending forever doing so.
i know its our instinct to try to be efficient, but we end up removing the game. I like being able to deal with the problems and challenges, rather than never having them. And often, the problem doesnt exist like imagined, and the solution actually is just as bad as the imagined problem.

@@KyleMiddleton7 my head cannon is that everything is looted from initial chaos possibly other survivor groups.
When it comes to zomboid settings, the realism debate can be one that is debated on what side of settings are "realistic".
When it comes down to the world of zomboid, and how the outbreak starts, i feel like the opposite is realistic.
I need low loot settings, and zombies being able to attack windows/doors on their own, in order to help sell the world to myself. Otherwise its too pristine.
Didn't want to critic anyone's playstyle, I just wanted to encourage others to experiment and not dismiss some of the bigger things in zomboid. Like I said, trying some of the things i used to swear were awful ideas, has turned into my favorite playthrough by far.
My main problem, was I was eliminating gameplay instead of figuring how to actually solve the issue.

    • @Stevenwinrar
      @Stevenwinrar Před 9 měsíci

@@KyleMiddleton7 My fix for this has been to have zombie respawn on, so they spawn at the edges of the cell, and have settings that cause migration.
There is no true, migrating hordes.
But I find with expanded heli events, and the sanbox settings that allows zombies to attack buildings and set off their alarms.
(note: if you do this, youll need to make alarms rarer, as if not.. everytime you are in a cell for the first time, the zombies WILL find a way to set off an alarm.)
Really realistic for early game chaos, having a house alarm go off in the middle of the night and watching a horde envelope and move past your base.
Late game, annoying af when you go to a town and it has 5-6 alarms go off as you explore that day. thats why you need to reduce alarm rarity if you go that route, i turn up car alarm rarity to balance it myself.

It's one of the reasons the north Muldraugh warehouse is so tempting a building. Nice flat roof.

@@KyleMiddleton7 I recently renovated a warehouse south of the log factorys etc etc. the ones with the car mechanic shop and restaurant. Its just a bit more open and bigger there... It took me 1 month to renovate and build up but it looks cool... I have used many spots also a great spot I once did was the tyre/carshop near the westpoint bridge. Its a cool building and I renovated it and destroyed some walls and added some others. There are probably like 100 more places that are awesome. I am currently thinking of one time building a base in a giga mart. Maybe the in riverside :p whould look so cool if you boarded up all windows and just made it somewhat secure. Whould feel right in place in a apocolypse world

Ik its stereotypical but the rosewood firestation is rly good, near a gas station, not many zombies, close to a police station and muldraugh. The only downsides are not water source (which is not that big a deal bc of all the water dispensers nearby and u can plumb) and also its a bit far from LV and Westpoint. Also, it has a fence covering 75% of its perimeter

It's not a bad base, I just think it's my 3rd or 4th favorite in Rosewood. Of course some of this depends on individual settings, and whether you're SP or MP.

My latest base is the Riverside Gated Community which I fully bordered off which is really good.
It's got 34 upper class 2 story houses which I only cleared one of them so far.
Also what's the movie at 1:23?

If I recommended 20 bases, it wouldn't be on the list. Not centrally located. Poor loot in the building itself. Way, way too big. I've been set up in there for two plus years and there are still a couple of rooms I haven't really done anything with.
