  • we have wanted to give hatching quail eggs a try, I guess it was a minor success, out of 24 ,8 hatched,, plus another 2 died in the shell, I don't know why that was, we had some chicken eggs in there as well, only one is strong and should be ok, the other one, I don't have much hope for.

    I always wanted to try to hatch some quail. They are very good eating, but now I am content with just throwing them (wild) some chicken feed during the winter. That is one fine looking incubator! Those chicks think you are their Mom now. Don't forget to change their diapers...ha ha.

    Nice job hatching those quail. That will be interesting to see how they do when you move them outside.

    Two quail is better than none! That was quite a fiasco with them fall through the sides! Quail are so little when they hatch. 😊

      we ended up with 8 quail so I guess that's not a real bad hatch rate

    Congrats on the new hatchlings. I always thought about having a go at doing this myself the quail eggs are supposed to be one of the easiest I think you can just buy them straight from the supermarket I was told Nice to see it works all the best my friends have a good week.

      I don't know if ones from the market would hatch or now,, I know with chickens, they don't have any rooster in with the hens for egg production.

    • @MissouriOldTimer
      @MissouriOldTimer  Před 3 lety

      here is the link,, it seems to be very good other than a lot of places where chicks can manage to get under the grid and get down in the water, other than that, we like it ,: www.ebay.com/itm/New-Digital-Egg-Incubator-Hatcher-Temperature-Control-Automatic-Turning-Chicken/133532374427

      I've never seen that brand of incubator, I'll have to check it out. Wow, those quail are so tiny! I figured out how to prevent splay leg...
      Most incubators have a slick bottom in them. Easy to clean, but the chicks slip and end up with spraddled legs. I cut me some cabinet liner up and lay in the bottom before I put the eggs in lockdown to hatch. Hope that helps for next time. Can't wait to see them grow, hope they do well for you all!

    • @MissouriOldTimer
      @MissouriOldTimer  Před 3 lety +1

      @@BarbdWireNRoses1 thank you,, the main problem with this incubator is that they manage to get down under the grid thing and there's water down there, other than that it works pretty well. we will have to try putting something like you suggested next time,,

      well that little chicken died over night , it had a bad start, it was having problems getting out of the shell, so it was kinda deformed .
