  • Barn find Honda CB750 revival! Forks, brakes, wheels, and tires are all getting attention in this video! Now that the bike runs the focus is now to make it road worthy and to do that we have a lot of work ahead.
    Watch as I rebuild the braking systems including new caliper seal, master cylinder rebuild, new brake lines, rear drum rebuild. Next up I focus on rebuilding the forks with new seals and mix-matching some parts with another set of CB750 forks I have. While the forks are off I installed some new taper roller steering bearings as a nice upgrade! Finally I turn my attention to the wheels and tires. The chrome on the rims was in poor shape so I decided to paint them black! I then fitted some classic looking Duro tires to complete the look!
    Ultrasonic Cleaner mix: Half gallon of Simple Green Pro HD, some dawn dish soap, the rest (30L tank) of hot water. I vary the temperatures and time depending on what im working on. It is so nice to know that I am not the only person left that appreciates these old bikes and goes to the trouble to renew instead of just replacing everything.
    These bikes were timeless and are still unmatched in quality, ridability, and just being fantastic, well made motorcycles that are fun to ride!

    Very cool! Honda used to make a factory dual front disc conversion, likely unobtanium in this day and age. Tapered roller steering head bearings make a huge difference too. Great tip on using zipties to secure the tube inside the tire and then mounting it! Sure beats heck out of risking pinching a tube(thinking all of us have been there & done that with our bikes).
    3 master links? Someone pieced together a drive chain for that bike for sure. I'd invest in a fresh drive chain.
    Glad to see this SOHC 750 Honda getting pressed back into service, great video! Thanks man!

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks Mark! I plan to eventually do a dual disc up front. I have the matching rotor and caliper mount already but need a caliper and likely a goldwing master. That will come in time. The biggest benefit to the zip ties is that you are only sliding essentially one bead over the rim instead of two. It is so much faster!

If there’s one thing I learned in my life is that you can please some of the people some of the time but you can’t please all of the people all of the time. It’s just much easier to piss everyone off and move on, you’re doing a lot more than much people out there. I think you’re doing a great thing by bringing these otherwise neglected or forgotten bikes back to life and that’s something I myself enjoy doing on my spare time when I have it. Great video 🤗. Couple questions?? I changed out the std ball bearings in my 85 CB650SC to TRBs. (This was a long time ago, so bear with me). I found I couldn’t get the tension on the bearings where they were just right. Too tight, and the bike would weave going down the highway, too loose, and, well you’d feel the slight slop in the triple clamp using the front brakes. I switched back to std ball bearing (new races and new ball bearings of course). I had that mc a long time, and I thought I switched back to TRBs, but I can’t remember, BUT, in your experience, have you ever noticed a “weave” induced but over tightening the triple clamp bearings? I’m not saying you over tighten the new TRBs, but was curious if you’ve had any weave/tracking issues using TRBs and/or having them too tight? Anyways, great trick with the tie straps. Heard about it, but Never seen it done👍 Great job 🤗😎👍

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      Hmm I can't say I've ever had trouble getting TRB set up just right. I wonder if there was something bent or slightly misaligned on the 650 that was causing that. It can be tricky to find that balance and I'm sure ill have to go back to adjust these but I can get it in the ballpark.

    That was smart, putting the top end of the rubber boot on the ear before sliding the fork in. It seems obvious, but that's the first time I've seen someone do it that way. Did you tape off the spokes when you painted the rims... and what kind of paint did you use?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank ya Dave! Are you talking about the entire headlight mounting bracket and fork boot? I've actually never looked at how anyone else does the job so this is just how I went about it. Not sure if its unconventional or not. For the paint I used an SEM primer and trim black. I didn't mask and simply went back and wiped the overspray from the spokes after I was done. I figured both methods were equal in time and materials.

      I went back and used cloth strips soaked with acetone to clean them off. I felt it was the same amount of labor as individually masking

    Alright now. There is more information here. Did you actually wipe each spoke after painting the rims? I"m looking forward to try that o so brilliant zip tie technique on some new tires. The rear brake redo looks pretty normal. But not gonna lie. B.J. ~ your work with a toothbrush and cleaning up metal surfaces is way way over the top. I think I'm going to kick the snowblowers off the motorcycle lift and just begin with a toothbrush. Thank you again for all of this. Just great! 〰✨👍✨〰

      Yes I actually did wipe each spoke. I figured it was the same amount of time as individually taping them off. The toothbrush is my secret weapon

      @@Retirement_Life I've been really trying to cater the music to my audience which has split. This bike and my cbx draw a more "experienced" ;) crowd so blues/rock/guitar focused music. My cx videos and other builds I have more lofi/beats/uptempo tracks. Glad you like it and I'll use more of it

    Hey BJ - who is you preferred vendor for CB750 carb rebuild kits? Starting my first CB750 "refreshtoration" this week and it'll be one of the first jobs to tackle. Thx!

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      Refreshtoration is a term I'm now stealing lol. I typically just buy the rubber pieces and gaskets as I clean the original brass. I know dime city cycles, 4into1, and randakkas all sell carb kits for the bikes that include the brass but always inspect carefully to make sure all the parts are correct

    i have a '79 on its way from Montana. It has a broken odometer; is that common?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety

      That could be caused by the cable, the drive unit on the wheel, or the gauge having an issue itself. Unsure if its common but you should be able to repair it
