The Toyota Supra has one of the best legacies in sports car history. From the Celica Supra, to the Fast and Furious big screen fame of the MK4 Toyota Supra, it's a hard car to not smile in. This time around Toyota leaned into the legacy of Fast and Furious with the 45th anniversary Toyota Supra in a bright orange, an optional manual transmission, and some other small upgrades. I just started working as a tech for Toyota.
What solidified Toyota's place in the tuner community for me, was logging into Toyota's employee database called TIS.
One of the pictures it shows on there is a pandem Mk5. Was shocked to see it.
Something small, yet it made me happy to see toyots being invoked with the car community

Some people don't like the design with the fake air vents and BMW roots but I always applaud companies like Toyota for giving us the closest thing they could get to a concept car. The FT1 was sick and they wanted the supra to still be an inlne 6. Going with BMWs B58 was a great decision.
The FT-1 was a Concept Car though. Didn't have anything to do with the Supra. And Toyota and BMW already had a chassis in the works(before the FT-1 Concept existed).
Plus the G29 Generation BMW Z4 wouldn't exist without the MK5 A90-J29 Supra (5th Gen Supra), especially due to the last generation BMW Z4 flopping in sales

I was probably one of the very few people who actually liked the MKV when it was first released. I love the design, the shape, everything about it. Then, when it came added with a manual, that basically solidified my want for it. Now, with the 45th edition, I have never wanted a car more. That wing is absolutely gorgeous and I love how it fits the shape of the rear so damn well.

I never hated the supra, now i want to own a manual one someday 😂, but for right now I'm enjoying the hell out of my new gr86. Literally never had this much fun just driving to work, already put 5k miles on it in just over two months lol

too many people complain about this car without realizing its built by Magna (Canada) in a factory in Austria. It might be a Z4 but it's not at the same time. The reality is that more partnership cars will come out. The twins and the Supra are just the pioneers.
The Z4 G29 generation wouldn't existed Without the MK5 Supra. The last generation Z4 FLOPPED in sales
I mean you just described how the car is built. The parts are still from BMW, so it is a BMW product. Essentially Toyota took someone’s Lego set and made a car from it. Not a bad thing as it performs great, like you said it’s a way of creating these cars now without breaking the bank.

I’m glad Toyota has given us a few variants of sports cars-especially since SUVs are popular in the U.S.
I have a 2023 GR Supra (B58, automatic) and I LOVE IT! I’ve driven it every day since I got it months ago-it’s so responsive, agile, quick, (tail happy), and fun to drive! It’s also very comfortable, so it’s my daily. I’m still on the waitlist for a manual version. If it ever arrives, I’ll keep both cars.
I enjoy the howl of the engine and it’s ability to be fuel efficient (in normal mode). Regardless of of whether people consider it to be a “Supra,” it’s an excellent, thrilling, and comfortable car.

Toyota already announced that 2025 will be the Final year for the GR Supra, but we'll see if that really happens.

I have done a 180 on Supra. Without the manual, it made no sense to get either Nissan Z, Mustang, or Corvette. However, I do find myself wanting a manual Supra now.
Goodluck finding manuals for sale. Reddit is full of owners on a wait list for one year, and dealer mark Ups at $90k.
It’ll make things interesting for sure…I bet the anniversary model will fetch a hefty price too. The downside to anything with a fun factor

The more I see about the new Supra, ESPECIALLY the manual, the more I'd consider one.
Supras have NEVER been on my radar, but this one is a different breed.
It feels like what happened with the Vette when they ditched the winga-dinga FR platform: It's by all means STILL a Corvette, but, just, better.
Without the 2J, mk IV Supras would be just as forgotten as the R33 GT-R.
When they were new, the Mk4 Supras were a sales flop. Unloved as a plush, unexciting GT, Toyota could barely give them away. It was only when the tuners found out you could reliably push ALL of the boost through the 2JZ that it became an icon-and the only reason it's revered over its contemporaries like the 300ZX.

r33 gtr isn't forgotten at all😂, it came out just right when the r32's popularity at motorsport was about to go down, the r33 is an upgrade to the r32 in term of performance
But alas ... the MKIV Supra does have a 2JZ. And it's not just the engine that was overengineered. Not many manual transmission cars that are 30 years old (or even new ones) can hold 1200-1400whp through a stock transmission with a simple clutch upgrade through stock diff & axles, etc. Even less of those cars if you only consider Japanese models.
20+ track days in with my 2020 AUTOMATIC and I'm finding this car outpaces just about everything. The car is insanely capable out of the box, and is firmly in GT3/GT4 BMW M car territory with performance.
GR yaris is pretty high up on my wishlist. It's like a focus RS but more nimble based on how it looks on camera.
great content as always! These later versions of the supra have really sold me on a new one instead of daydreaming for a mk4. now I wait for 5+ years so I can afford one and find a good used model (cuz lets be honest idk if this car will still be made in 5 years)

If u can't get a 24 model. Then best to peer around 2020s,2022s,or 2023s. 21 mk5s are a bit of a hit or miss since those may have a 50/50 chance of having oil burning issues that seems to be fixed for 22 mk5s and up. In some ways people have 50/50 found ways around that issue for 21s but just a small warning.
Tbh i feel they did the perfect thing to keep the supra alive , thriving , and continues to intrigue the modern sports car and enthusiasts of the new age ... and tbh the b58 is a friggin monster when done right hell even stock its not a bad engine at all imo but thats just me n my opinion lol peace and love all keep it rad stay safe and build on l8z
Love the gr corolla. Buddy from work had (has) one all black. They sound great in person! Especially for a three-banger.
I never hated the supra, im just glad I can say this now without being flamed 😂 that b58 is imo a 100% successor to the 2JZ. Its a beefy durable I6 turbo. Only thing is yeah sure the b68 can’t reliably be tuned to crazy high numbers on stock internals but still
You can still get big power for street use from the b58 and honestly that’s perfect in my opinion.
Sadly, I was a hater when I heard bmw was assisting with it back in 2016 iirc. It came out heard lots of good things about the b58 and it looks unique. Saw one in person and loved the way they looked. Started looking for one in 2021 and got to test drive a zf8. Amazing driving car and pretty quick. Ended up getting a MT and I absolutely love the car. I can easily say I managed to capture a dream car.

I desperately want someone to bring out a rep wing of the 45th edition. The closest one I’m aware of yet is the Aimgain but apparently they flutter at speed. I don’t care for manuals (sue me) so I don’t think I’ll be trading my 8sp any time soon

I put a deposit for one in May '22. I didn't get one for 15 months, and then I called it quits and spec'd a new Mustang how I wanted. It's being built this week. Still have the deposit down just to see how long it takes for them to call me, but I'm gonna cancel and get my money back as soon as they tell me one is available

I didn’t care for the auto only version, but the manual is interesting to me. I think I still prefer the new Z more, but I want to drive this before I make a decision. If only the manual launch blue color was available with the peanut butter interior. My biggest question is it unlocked or is it limited to bolt ons?

I got my deposit on the 45th anniversary! Unfortunately the only manual my dealer had was the white. The orange was an auto, no thank you. I think I'm still gonna love it in white.

I love how people hated on this car yet it still has an amazing (probably legendary tbh, coming from a N54 lover) in-line 6 and competitively priced. Will probably be my first newer car in the future.

I never took the MkV supra seriously until I was lapping with one during a HPDE. Legitimately fast and in a reasonably small chassis that is fun to drive.
I love it. Except the fake vents... Other than that it looks awesome. Great video as always!

Toyota partnered with BMW to release the Supra at a realistic price.
Nissan released the new Z on its own, but because of that they couldn't reduce development costs, so they had to use an old chassis from 2003 and set a ridiculous price.

Are the vents actually functional on this version? I like the car but why put the vents on the sides of the car if they don’t work. The mk4 did it well without the vents
Man they should have done more with the suspension because in your video it looks like that thing has a lot of body roll when it shouldn't

BMW will always give Toyota the scraps. Same as they did with the release having only 335hp vs the 382hp. The second the give Toyota the S58. They will have a new better inline-6 in their cars. Just how the deal works.

Great car, have seen a few tuned ones ripping around West Palm Beach, they lookin sound ridiculous! So bad ass,🤘 the pricing is absolutely out of control though!

I like the Supra, and in fact, i've been trying to buy one since the summer. But none are available without a significant markup. It's actually cheaper to order a new Camaro ZL1 and get more car for the same money, but my v8 american cars are over as I can't stand the low quality everything else you get with american cars.
I'm 40, i have a mortgage, 750+ credit, and I currently drive a 2020 BMW M4 CS that I've had since new. I love the car, but it's just not engaging to drive with the DCT as I prefer. I've modified it lightly so i've recitified the only downside of the S55 (the terrible exhaust note) and I enjoy driving it, I just want to go back to something that's engaging while keeping the CS around. I've realized that I miss having a manual, as my M4 is my first and only automatic in 20 years.
Now I'm trying to add to the family and buy a much cheaper, much more down market, but much more engaging to drive Supra. I can't get one. Not without paying new M2/M3/M4 money. I don't want a new car enough to pay a markup. But I want a sports car. So I'm just stuck here sitting on the sidelines wanting to buy a new car, but not being able to justify a 10-15k markup for something that's not on the same level as a full fat M car. Simple request, 45th Anniversary model, Mikan Blast Orange, manual transmission, all options, all accessories. No markup.
The Supra is a great car, and I want to buy one. I will fly to get it, I will have it shipped. Doesn't matter to me. I'm just not paying markup. You'd think any dealership would be happy to just get an easy guaranteed sale, but it seems it's not the case.

What’s the differences between the 45th edition manual and a regular GR manual
Spoiler and color, minus no HUD in the 45th. Also 45th gets black brake calipers. And that’s it.
I originally wanted a Supra and tried to buy one but Toyota was a literal nightmare to work with in the states.
So I went to BMW and had an awesome sales experience. Bought myself an M240i xDrive. Better car, less money.

The only weird thing about that 45th anniversary edition is, it only shows white and orange as the available colors on the Toyota webpage. Two of my least favorite colors. I just want the joker in black.

LC500 is a heavy girl but it's legitimately one of the most refined, fun and beautiful GT cars ever made. It's fast enough for most and is just quality in almost every area.

Personally I like all of the Supra chassis equally from the A40-A80. The DB chassis is a great car but I would never buy one just because I don’t really like the direction the Supra went. Now granted it was already going that way being a lighter chassis with a shorter wheel base when the A80 debuted. But I like the Supra I like better as a sporty grand tourer than a light weight short wheel based sports car.
I daily my A90 Supra. I use to own a A80. It’s definitely not a GT car. The biggest difference is the A80 chassis flexes. The A90 chassis is solid.

For the GR Corolla, to hoon; you have to run 20psi in the front and 44psi in the rear
I started off as being one of the haters of the new Supra, I still believe when it first launched it was rough. But from everything I've seen with the engine and hearing how it's actually really good and now that it has a manual I've been hearing nothing but praise about it's performance from those who were also haters at first. I'm still not big on how it looks, the duckbill trunk and the weird headlights I'm still not a major fan of. If the headlights didn't have the little spiky parts pointing into where the grill is it would look more like a Supra to me and less like a more sassier Camry.

They're designed to be removable and functional. It isn't a big deal 😂
@@refillz5281 No, they aren’t. I know Toyota claimed that, but the fender vents for example require a ton of cutting and ducting to make them functional.

I own a manual supra and 100% all the vents are super easy to take off and replace with functional ones. Is it really worth it’s not really the small amount of air and where there are places would be more of a placebo effect to get them open. They do make the car look way better and sportier than just being flat body line with no real o fake vent at all. The only vent that would never be functional not even remotely is the one on the doors. Again I don’t mind since is really does tie up the huge hips on the rear and make it look way better. If you really want one go test one the driving feel alone will get you over your fake vent hate. And the aftermarket is huge for them so there’s way better body modifications to get air in or out in the correct places if you so need real vents that will actually help performance.
@@MC-oz6vz There is a difference between just opening them and actually making them functional. The ones on the side of the hood should vent the wheel wells, and the ones on the front should be used as brake cooling or an aero curtain. Making them actually functional takes a lot of work.

Multimatic builds the Ford GT and will be building the Mustang GTD. I don't see a lot of tears shed over these American icons carrying Canadian passports. The Subaru built GR86 seems to get a pass as well.
