    With front wheel drive, you can often get more traction BACKING up the steep hills. Going forward up the hill, the center of gravity shifts away from the front (drive) wheels and toward the back wheels. If you back up, then the front wheels are downhill and the CG shifts toward them, giving you a little more weight and traction on the drive wheels. Just something to keep in mind if you REALLY have to get up a steep gravel hill in the future.

    Prius Overlanding has a custom 2" hitch that's angled upwards slightly which helps a lot with the box on the rear too.
    You can also disable traction control for gravel roads, snow, etc using your phone and a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter.

  • @chrisfolkharmonicaplayer6292

    Maybe I'll have to lift my Prius. I've hit the front of mine on those parking space barriers many times. Try backing your Prius up that gravely hill. With front wheel drive you normally lose weight on those front wheels driving forward up a hill. Backing up the hill has the opposite effect.

The CX 5 is so quiet inside. And I drive my Mazda CX 5 like I drove my Prius. Lol yes If you keep it under 70 mph you get very good mileage. Also just FYI, you shouldn't fill your tank past the first click, as overfilling can cause gas to enter into the EVAP system/charcoal canister/etc., and while it might only cause a temporary check engine light, at worst it can be an expensive fix! Ask me how I know haha

      @16driver16 Před rokem

      @@comingofkym every pump has a different flow rate and nozzle making the point at which they "click" and stop pumping is radically different depending on the setup, generally unless you pull the pump all the way out of the fill nozzle or use a gas can you will not fill it so much it goes into the vents that lead to the evap system. A slow pump with an old fashioned nozzle could overfill a tank or a pump with a faulty nozzle, and it's easy to do filling with a gas can.

I used a Prius as a rural mailman and drove it all day long in this mode especially in the snow. It's a simple sequence when starting the car using the Power button and flooring the gas pedal 2x and shifting from neutral to park etc. Check it out and keep the instructions in your glove box.

    Morbidly curious, how's lifting your Prius treating your hybrid milage? Also does it feel looser on the road as you drive (wind grabbing ahold of it more etc). When we had a Prius I swear all we did was bottom out on the back roads to my parents lol. I ended up going back to SUV land, but now our lovely kina has an EV cousin so we're saving for that. We'll get the backroad ease of an SUV without feeling like gas guzzling jerks every time we take the car out of the garage (although our kina actually gets really good milage for a crossover)

    I really want to pull the trigger on this for my prius so I'm just curious how it effected your mpg before and after lifting it?

    • @LeahandLevi
      @LeahandLevi  Před 11 měsíci

      We avg about 5.4l/100km in the city and highway combined. It's really not that noticeable

      Prius Offroad is basically the only place that does reputable lifts and everyone who I know who has done it with Eric has had a great experience so we just made our way down to Chico to do it. 👍🏻

    but still lower if you want more lift up put in front lexus HS front coil spring in rear sonata 7 coil spring it would be much better for lift and can hold big luggage also you should change your tires in 16 inch wheels and its done.

    Just a heads up - don't top up your gas tank after the pump shuts off. It can destroy your evap (emissions) system, and cause costly repairs.

    Levi and Leah, I have a question for you 2 that is unrelated to this video. How do you deal with food waste and trash in your Prius? Do you compost your food scraps, if so how do you do it on the road? How much plastic are you unable to avoid having now that you're not in a house? Do you use dirty paper to light fires?

    • @LeahandLevi
      @LeahandLevi  Před rokem +1

      Good question! We stash foodwaste for a uncomfortable amount of time in the hopes of finding a compost but sometimes we do have to trash it which is sad. Our plastic waste is also higher on the road for sure. Sadly the infrastructure in various places on the road aren’t great for living zero waste 😬

    Will you need new wheels and tires for off-roading?

    Does the Prius ride any different since you lifted it? It looks coooool!

      Thanks! It’s pretty similar to stock but a bit stiffer. The back end in particular feels a lot better all around especially on winding roads etc

    Not just “lifted”- it’s PROFESSIONALLY lifted!

    Carry an extra 10 gallons of Gasoline and water. You can sell it to people when their radiators are overheating.
