The problem with ebikes - and what is not widely understood - is that by far the most expensive component is the battery. Also these batteries have a limited lifetime - usually stated as 'up to 5 years' - but in practice could be a lot shorter than 5 years. So then the expense of buying a new battery every few years must be added in.
Depends on the cells, BMS, charging habbits & usage. I have 2 batteries that are 6 years old and still work fine. They admittedly have less range than new but with plenty of life left. The bigger problem is that $500 only covers a quality battery with few amp hours (with tax & delivery).
@@michaelsprinzeles4022 If you can't afford $350.00 a few years on an e bike which is the equivalence of a bus pass. Maybe you need is a regular bicycle. only $1 dollar a day is cheap.
As cheap as e bikes are getting, and new upgrades. I be better off buying new e bike every 2 year for less than 1,200 dollars. That is still only $50.00 dollars a month. Still less than a buss pass. But the deal is the exorcise. If one knows how to operate it at 10 or less miles an hour like riding a 20" bicycle like the good ol days. Then this is it. Any faster, well get a moped.
Batteries often list their charge cycles to give you an idea. Some 500 cycles..better batteries up to 1000 charges. Batteries can be bought new for anything between 300 to 500 dollars so not bad over a number of years useage.
@@voicevoice2053 I'd be careful of anything below the $500 range (unless you're looking at a low AH battery). For reasonable cycle life, range & cells with a good BMS $500 is about as cheap as it gets. No matter what you want from a battery you should research a battery as much as possible before purchase.

Yes, being short is not usually as great a problem as being tall. There are far more bikes out there suitable for short people than there are for us tall folk imho.
The only problem with these low end bikes is the cost of shipping; $90 to $150. I'd rather put that money into a better bike with free shipping.
1st time I've ever been 1st to comment..,,.. glad someone finally did comparison at this price point instead of the usual “inexpensive" $1200 bikes

1200 is inexpensive for an e-bike, and really not that bad compared to the cost of a car or a motorcycle.

No idea you can get a decent size adult e bike for 500 or less thank you
You're very welcome Charles.
Can it fit a short person ?
Yes, most of these bikes are made to fit all sizes of people. How short are we talking about?
