  • Add a folding extension table to your Sailrite Leatherwork walking foot sewing machine! The small table package on the Sailrite for leather is nice, but for some upholstery projects you'll appreciate this fold away extension table that increases your work space. Also see how to add a hanging storage pouch for notions, tools, and your favorite leather shears. Follow along as Willie Sandry the Thoughtful Woodworker / Thoughtful Upholsterer shows the process step by step. This is a great addition to any industrial / commercial sewing machine where you need more space! Sail right and Sail rite too!

Thank you! It's pretty easy to do if you have some basic woodworking tools, or at least know someone who does.

Impressive how closely you matched the look of the factory table. Appears to be MDF with clear lacquer on both?

I'm not sure what the factory used for a topcoat. I just used MDF with clear satin lacquer and it matched well.
      Thanks!

Will you list the detailed information for this? i.e., the type of screws, washers, bracket, etc.

It's just common folding shelf brackets and basic hardware store fasteners. Select the folding shelf brackets based on how big you want the extension table to be. Even a small extension table can be quite useful.
Sailrite was considering making one, so keep an eye on their site.

The shelf bracket is 14" on the long horizontal leg, and 7.5" on the short vertical leg. The table is 15" long, and same width as the factory table. The vertical support board is 8.5" tall, and 3/4" narrower than the factory table.
      Hope this helps.

How much weight can they handle?

    • @TheThoughtfulWoodworker

Probably 50 pounds or so. For me the folding table is just to support material or leather. Thanks.

The lack of space is what drives me crazy about my Sailrite! Would you consider making one for me? If so, cost?

      Hi Liz,
I'm not in the market to sell tables, but keep an eye on the Sailrite website. There were some murmurs they might start making them.
Another option would be to get a full sized industrial sewing table, and make an insert for the Sailrite.
      Best of luck with it.
