  • Dissertation feasibility has to do with accessibility to people, places, and resources that will make your dissertation doable. In this video, Dr. Markette works with Jack as Jack tries out several ideas for his dissertation.
    Pointers:
    1. Avoid depending on social media for participants.
    2. Consider the known places and people that might be helpful to get site authorization.
    3. Avoid using any category of vulnerable people to make IRB approval easier.
    4. Perhaps use a paid service to get the needed number of participants (though this may be expensive).
    5. Make sure that there is a need to do the study beyond personal curiosity.
    6. Avoid topics that are novel.
    7. Consider the time needed to complete the study.
    8. Make sure the study is connected to your field of study.
The dissertation journey takes grit, persistence, and an openness to constructive criticism from committee members. Those who embody these will have a stronger chance to graduate and a better experience along the way.

Dr. Markette, This video was informative and entertaining. I found myself laughing out loud at several segments as I could identify with quite a few of these scenarios. I remember the beginning stages of trying to determine the feasibility of a research topic while trying to narrow my choice of a dissertation topic. Your channel is so helpful in my journey in completing my dissertation. Thank you for taking the time to upload videos.

@@DrMarkette Yes, I'm a subscriber and a former student in a residency course you taught. I am in the process of writing chapter 2. So far, your videos have served as great review tools. When it comes to talking about my dissertation topic I still feel like Jack 😂. I'm exploring how Black female clergy ascribe meaning to their perception of support they receive from their church denominations (or congregations) regarding their call to ordained ministry, and how perceived organizational support influences leadership practice within the Black church context.
Anything AQR related is still a mystery to me. Is it too early to think about AQR review and approval and how all of this works at this stage of the dissertation process (I'm still writing chapter 2)? Videos on this topic would be helpful.
