Thanks!! I would add - to keep it clump free, save 1/4 cup of milk from the pot and mix the sugar, cornstarch, and salt in there and then add to the warm milk. Otherwise you risk having the cornstarch clump in the hot milk 🥵

Thanks for your question, Nabila Safira. Adding butter to the pudding mixture will increase its silky, smooth texture and help prevent lumps, plus add flavor. Leaving it out in this recipe isn't the best idea.

Excellent question, Cute diys! The answer is "yes," but you will need to use 3 tablespoons of flour to replace 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. For this pudding recipe, that means 9 tablespoons of flour. This is equal to 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon flour. This pudding will set more than pastry cream, Ng Ronald, because the recipe calls for cornstarch. Pastry cream is used as a filling in pastries and eclairs so it's intended to be creamy. Hi, Onodera Ritsu - This substitution is generally not recommended. However, because this is a pudding recipe and not for baked goods, you should be OK making the change. Confectioners' sugar or icing sugar will be sweeter than regular granulated sugar, so you shouldn't need as much. Add it in small amounts and taste after each addition to make sure it doesn't get too sweet. Confectioners' sugar also has cornstarch in it.
