    It's still just unthinkable to me that they didn't even have like, a basic plot outline, before they started making one of the biggest and most anticipated film trilogies of all time. Literally they could have just asked one of their interns to come up with a plot for a trilogy and at least it would have been a consistent vision.

      they actually had an outline for a trilogy. It was the story that Lucas sold Disney that was being worked on by Michael Arndt. Arndt worked on the script for 10 months until Disney and Lucasfilms decided to drop his story for the script that is to be developed by JJ and Lawrence Kasdan. There is a documentary on Ytube that greatly details the development of TFA called Starwars Apocrypha. It explains why TFA is just a reboot of the ANH and why Rian was able to do what he did in VIII.

      Palpatine Lives!... only his announcement was in Fortnite (so more of the same"reed teh outsyde sauce biggut" as before).
      I mean, Sure the Prequels were a bit too in love with the spectacle, the love story was kinda awkward. But at least it wasn't, quite literally the Orig-trig with better graphics.
      Sure, TFA was ANH 2.0, everyone knew that, hell Han pointed out that they'd kinda done this before (Starkiller) with a couple of Deathstars.
      Then along comes TLJ, same story-beats and in many cases, imagry as ESB.
      Opulent city of betrayal.
      Rebels hastily escape base.
      Rebel last-stand base on white planet (haha it's salt, this time).
      Oh look, Snow-trooper looking dudes accompany Kylo.
      Oh look, an itterant Jedi Master doesn't want to train the newbie (although what can he teach her that she hasn't already "Force-downloaded" even if he had trained her...).
      Oh look, at the end, Kylo is all "Join me" just like Vader.
      Oh look, downer ending... even worse because they only have one ship, instead of that fleet (squadron?) like at the end of ESB.
      And at the end, in ROS turned out to be "ROTJ". Lowtech vs Hightech. Space-horses on Stardestroyers. Also big showdown vs Palpatine where the Vader expy helps the Luke expy.
      As adorable as the Ewoks were, everyone forgets they were happily gonna eat the protagonists (think about them empty stormtrooper helmets). They were vicious, chimp-strength little savages, with a quick pick-up for tech (you can't tell me Paploo had practiced on speeder bikes beforehand). And considering Endor, they were used to coping with giant predators.
      Also the whole Vietnam War allegory was rife (hell, even non-special-forces, at least wore OD into The Nam which is an assload better than stormtrooper white).

    • @hellacoorinna9995
      @hellacoorinna9995 Před 3 lety +11

      And ROS was a painful overcorrection of TLJ.
      But the foundations were laid with JJ. So, he can't be absolved entirely.
      Rey could've been more morally fluid, but fun-loving, uncouth and grubby but with a good heart (maybe she feels bad about selling BB-8 and tries to steal him back). Like Firefly's 'Kaylee' in personality. Able, at least to have fun
      That could've made for a great contrast with a more uptight, military-from-childhood Finn. Look at how Master Chief is, and how long it's taken o er games for him to open up a bit more.... and really, mostly to Cortana.
      Finn was done dirty, treating him more like any other enlistee.
      Rather than someone like Todd-3465.
      If The First Order had (on screen or by dialogue) implied to be liked, at least for going about killing slavers and pirates (ie: doing some good for the people out there by bringing a hard-nosed order), then that village massacre (plus the loss of his Battlebuddy) could've been Finn's Mai-Lai moment to shake him out of his loyalty.

    • @hellacoorinna9995
      @hellacoorinna9995 Před 3 lety +7

      Also, the timing sucks.
      In TLJ, for the characters, no time has passed since Rey was handing over Luke's lightsabre in TFA.
      And suddenly, The First Order reigns?
      As in, is in control? After only just having their HQ blown up?
      Heh.

    it it might have been really interesting to just have a Kylo Ren story. I mean, Han and Leia are OTP for a lot of core fans, and their SON had so much potential. We could've had story one establishing the background of Ben Solo and the rift between him and his parents. He could've had contact with the Dark Side and it would've felt more natural rather than a random Mary Sue no one cares about. The rise and fall of Ben Solo. The other characters could be used too: Finn escapes, showing Ben that it's never too late to try and make amends; he could've gotten his ass handed to him by the others. Fighting against Luke Skywalker. Hell, Ben Solo could've been what COULD have happened to Luke. What a massive contrast. IDK. This whole trilogy had MUCH POTENTIAL and instead we have a Mary Sue as the titular character. Yay... representation for the sake of representation...

    • @WeekendWarrior1

    • @nathanjora7627

      I mean, if we’re going to speak about wasted potential, having a galactic wide unified republic whose only enemy is the first order out of nowhere, who then immediately takes control out of nowhere, and then the final order appears out of nowhere again, is such a massive waste of potential when compared to what should’ve succeeded the empire, namely a big somewhat unified republic core, but massive portions of the galaxy that aren’t under republican rule, with the separatists of old taking the chance to finally secede by taking advantage of the republic’s weakness, as well as loyalist imperial sectors that organize splinters factions with warlords of the old empire trying to take over, some decided to re found the empire, some just trying to keep order where they are with no further ideological goal, and who’d even be okay with the republic as long as they leave them be, and various crime empires being founded, as well as the Jabbah expanding their territory in the outer regions, with the Jedi in the midst of all this chaos who are tied with the new republic due to Luke’s involvement with the rebellion and the Jedi’s historic alliance with the republic, but who have to decide wether to stay tied to the republic, or to break off from it in order to try and remain independent, which would allow them to do the job they were always meant to do, bring harmony and justice in the galaxy, but at the cost of their most powerful backer, and at the risk of being alienated by the republic and rejected by everyone else.
      There is such a massive epic galactic wide conflict to tell, about the republic trying to unify the galaxy through diplomacy and war, the Jedi having to confront their old demons, the realization that with or without the sith, peace is still not at hand, etc.
      And let’s not forget the fact that as per clone wars and rebels, although the siths proper were destroyed, there are still plenty of force users of the dark side that had authority within the empire, so even if the siths are destroyed it’s not like there is a lack of new force using antagonists for the Jedi to fight.
      But no, let’s bring back Palpatine I guess that’s better -_-
      Edit : by the way, if anyone has several hundreds of millions of dollars laying around, it’d be really neat if you could fund this movie, just make sure to find a good director and writer for the details please.

    • @wannabehistorian371
      @wannabehistorian371 Před 3 lety +5

      Yeah. Ben was a character who suffered immensely from lack of context, imagine if instead they actually focused on giving his character the context he desperately needed. It would even been unique because it’s a Star Wars story from the P.O.V of the conflicted villain, kind of like a combination of the ideas of the prequels (the tragedy) and OT (the heroic tale/redemption). Hell, he didn’t even have to be a guy, as someone mentioned, as much as I love Adam Driver as this character.
      And yes! Someone else who sees the possible connection Kylo and Finn could have had! I can also imagine him having an interesting dynamic with Poe, his “replacement” in the Solo family dynamic. Rey could be his long-lost cousin, or someone else who he used to know, maybe even a fellow Padawan. We would have also gotten some context on the First Order and what the New Republic is like. Diving into the psychology of this character would have mitigated so, so many of the issues people have with him. Because he was the closest to being a good character, but like everyone else they dropped the ball so hard.
      And yes, Kylo should have been the one disillusioned with the Jedi, not Luke!

Did Ochi have the wayfinder, go to Exegol with pictures of the Death Star's wreckage, and have Palpatine make it? Did Ochi make it? Something about a gorey death in front of the main characters, out of nowhere and in a world of blasters, makes that even more apparent. And if I'm remembering right, it was for laughs as well?

    Minor question from a non-diehard SW fan: Do the nu-Stormtroopers have the brain implants or something similar to the original troopers, or did the Order skimp on their training budget? It just occurred to me in regards to Finn's story. If they do and it can be overcome by an emotional spur, then that contradicts the 66 massacre, right? Can't imagine Rex, Cody, and any number of other troopers didn't have an emotional response to killing their friends.

    • @WeekendWarrior1
      @WeekendWarrior1  Před 3 lety +3

      Its possible that training is super skimped now, but stormtroopers v. Jedi has always been against the stormtroopers.

    • @johnnyfroggo7361
      @johnnyfroggo7361 Před 2 lety +1

      The implants were only for the clone troopers from the prequels, specifically to facilitate Order 66. In both EU and Disney canon, the clones were eventually phased out after the Empire took over and replaced by normal conscripted/enlisted soldiers. Apparently by the time of the sequels, the First Order uses abducted children that are raised/brainwashed; no brain chips are mentioned for the original/sequel trilogy stormtroopers.

      Its actually worse. The amount of bs that's been pushed by SW in the books, novels, visual dictionaries, comics, and on Twitter in order to "fix" this trilogy and "make it all make sense" is insane...and useless, since there's rumours that Disney will split the timeline and remake this trilogy and it will include unused footage of Han and Leia.
