- “Extra’s” Mark Wright recently sat down with Matt Damon and Christian Bale as they promoted their film “Ford v Ferrari.”
They also discussed past projects, including rumors that Matt Damon passed on a role in the blockbuster film “Avatar," currently the second-highest-grossing film of all time.
Matt said, “I have no defense for it other than there was a scheduling conflict, so I literally couldn’t do it.”
“Ford v Ferrari” hits theaters November 15. - Zábava
Christian Bale doing press...he must really like this movie
Daniel Greenwell he sure as hell doesn’t like doing press tho!
At least no one walked behind while filming...
Every actor is contractually obligated to promote a movie.
He'll probably get an Oscar for this one, that could be why
Nop,I m sure is because matt,he is a really good person
Incredible how different the two of them are. Bale so intense and intimidating, Damon so relaxed and easy going.
Bale isn't intimating, just tense.
Well Bale is a former Batman that explains why he is intense.
@Radamenti so are u
I think Matt tries to be easy going and please Christian. Christian is just doing himself, which is deadpan dark humour and staring without blinking
Intimidating? lol
Bale just waiting to jump on the interviewer and eat his soul. Intense
This is exaggerated he was joking the whole interview
@Sam Armstrong and bale is batman. And Mark Wright couldn't box eggs. Looking good hitting a bag or pads doesn't make you a boxer
Probably thinks this guy is taking the piss out of his accent. “Who’s this geezer then?”
He’s laughing and smiling throughout the interview. How is he intense?
2:02 The way Damon looked at Christian laughing, and he was all serious lol
Psycho
Christian bale is slowly starting to sound like alfred the older he gets
Christian Bale sounds like he's doing a Michael Caine impression.
It's like how Matt Damon sounds like he's doing an "impression" of Mark Wahlberg.
Here's how to do your own impression of Michael Caine: 'ello, my name is My Cocaine.
@@dalekelly7639 😂 oh shit
Probably doing a michael caine documentary movie, so he's in character here
maybe hes alfred for the new batman movie
Bale: Sits quietly and listens. Answers a few questions. Cracks a few jokes. Ignores some questions because he's in the middle of a thought.
Comment section: Eeek he's so scary!
I‘m 6 feet 2 and been to the scariest countries, but Christian Bale is one of the most intimidating persons around. My male tribal instincts tell me, that he will eat you alive if he has to
Honestly I thought the opposite. I kept waiting for him to get irritated but he seemed to genuinely not hate being there. That seems pretty rare for him.
@@ryanmounce2850 That's the thing though, he is not intimidating because he can get mad, everyone does that. But he has an intensity about him that sends "don't f with this guy" signals. See for example as Matt Damon is replying to something, Bale is watching the host, unblinking.
That moment when you realize Batman's rage in TDK trilogy wasn't acting.
where's the rage here??
What?
@@mariamasabek8109 Exactly. And 363 sheeple agreed. LOL!
@@mariamasabek8109 Simmering beneath the surface. Just give Bale a chance to unleash on you and he'll fuckin' take it. Your face, his knuckle, his ejaculate.
Got that from Terminator
The questions were all over the place.
Right!? The interviewer needs a lot more practice!!
@@jimmymoffatt1889 Yeah, it's literally just "hey Matt, we heard you say this in another interview, so why don't you repeat it for our video", "and Christian, people liked it when you said this in another interview, why don't you repeat it for our video". Very TMZ. But it's still a fine video, only because of Damon and Bale.
Jimmy Moffatt “Right???!!!! Am.. am I right, g-guys?!!”

It just seems like he spent about 5 minutes doing a google search about what Bale and Damon have been up to/done in the past and asked some basic questions, he also did the interview weirdly, it felt tense.
I would absolutely watch a 3 1/2 hour cut of Ford v Ferrari. I can’t get enough of this movie
Maybe time to get a girlfriend

@@Frankincensedjb123 what would i do the other 3 hours and 25 minutes?
Love Bale. Normal, humble, introvert, who hates doing press, because he hates the attention, he said he hated it since day 1, when he became famous right after ''Empire of the sun'', because he actually became the one who financially supported the whole family, people don't really know anything about Bale, because he simply doesn't do all this stupid media for sympathy, repeating cliche anecdotes like all other actors, he doesn't give a f about it, he is real and this is why I love him.
Who thinks bale wasn’t joking about asking the guy to punch Matt n see what happens
that's cause Christian Bale is a douchebag
Bale was actually trolling Matt and pinching too the whole time
Hes a great actor. Buuuuuuut Daniel Day Lewis is great as well, without the trolling part.
It's called a joke
Bale is like, "try punching him now"

Christian bale “ breathes”
All the comments: ohhh my God he’s so intense
I know right? He seems a bit serious, in his thoughts, but not intense.
Ikr! He's actually so sweet and cute
Yes he’s very funny I’m binge watching his interviews with Matt Damon and they are both hilarious together😂
Yes. Really unfortunate that the events of twelve years ago still cling to Christian today and create such paranoia that he is going to snap at any moment. I guess you aren't allowed to have a bad day, reconcile differences, apologize, move on, grow as a person or anything redemptive in the eyes of those who are holier than thou. Both the rant and the verbal shouting match he had with his mother and sister occurred in July of 2008. The same month he was doing world wide press and premiers for The Dark Knight, dealing with the aftermath of the death of Heath Ledger and yes filming Terminator Salvation in the heat of New Mexico. The movie was troubled from the get go and there were major hurdles in getting the film made, numerous major rewrites of the script, a newbie Director and all kinds of things going on. What I always found as strange was that the incident was so well recorded with Christian's voice clear as a bell and everyone else's muffled? Anyone wonder why the recording of the audio wasn't stopped as soon as the shot was blown? Anyone wonder why the recording wasn't erased or trashed as it could not be used for the movie? It is widely known and accepted that the studio kept the recording and gave it to the film's insurer apparently in case Christian walked off the film. So...the studio execs felt they needed insurance in case Christian walked out on the film. Interesting. Well I guess it's mighty LUCKY that the Director of Photography (DP) and Cinematographer of the film (which by the way is one of the bosses on set - not a lackey) breached widely accepted set norms and walked around adjusting lights after the cameras were rolling. Not once but twice. Really lucky that that audio kept rolling though and SUPER lucky it wasn't destroyed afterwards. In fact, that recording sure came in handy when the Studio needed something to turn in to the film's insurer to cover their buts and not lose money if Bale tried to walk.
OR... did the studio make their own luck and orchestrate the whole incident to piss Mr. Bale off and antagonize him to get him ranting so they could capture it all on tape? The DP says he's sorry and then when Mr. Bale asks why he trashed his scene, the guy says he didn't trash the scene. Soooo I guess he really wasn't sorry then as he denies doing the very thing he's apologizing for - causing the scene to be ruined. Wonder what video would have showed of this DP's body language. I doubt he was cowering because he's not a small man. Bryce Dallas Howard was in the scene - the daughter or Ron Howard who is a DIRECTOR. Bryce called and gave her Dad the first hand account of what happened and Ron Howard went on record validating the notion that after the cameras are rolling, it's really not expected for anyone to be just walking around the set especially in the eye line of the actor. He was classy about it and tactful but it's a no no. It's understood. Numerous other actors and Directors said the same thing. The DP knew better. So he either he didn't care that Mr. Bale asked him not to walk in his sight line during the scene or he had a plan to push Mr. Bale's buttons that day. The Director should have addressed this but punts the ball when during the "rant" Mr. Bale tries to get him to weigh in and control his set. And the Director says...he didn't see it. Amateur hour? or in on the whole thing. And everybody's smiling and saying "Calm down Christian..." You can hear when a person is smiling - which would only piss somebody off more when they felt they're being "handled". And after all of that happens the audio is leaked several months later right around the release of the movie and twelve years later people are still making stupid, tired comments about it. Making Mr. Bale a perpetual villain for four minutes of his life where he was a human being pushed to his limits at a pressure filled period of his life and apparently, he will never live it down. The whole scenario was really sketchy.
As for the incident with his Mother and Sister that happened the night of his London premier for The Dark Knight, it was a shouting match. In England, "verbal abuse" is actually a chargeable offense. No hitting or physical abuse took place whatsoever. There is an article in the Guardian I believe quoting Mr. Bale's mother saying after the rant that perhaps people could understand why she called the cops on him. No. I can't understand why any mother with a minimum of a decent relationship with her son would call the cops on him because he yelled at her. That was hateful and spiteful behavior and there was something that motivated that. You have an argument with a loved one? Leave. This happened at the hotel not at her house. Simply leave and leave the matter alone until calmer heads prevail. The article goes on to quote the sister as saying that her brother was verbally abusing her the same way he verbally abused "that lighting engineer". Very clear. Verbal. She said he'd been working on film after film and he probably needed to take a break. And the charges were dropped. Read between the lines people. When his parents got divorced, he went to live with his Dad. He was the breadwinner for his family during his childhood and as a young adult and no reason to think that anything had changed. No one will ever know what the argument was about but it has been said that his mother said something against his wife. So enough said. If your own mother would call the police on you and press charges against you for yelling at her, on the night of your blockbuster premier you are to attend within hours, then yeah, you need to pick your wife over THAT mother - every time.
Yeah people take delight in this kind of stuff. The ruining of a man's reputation is a vile thing if it's undeserved. You do not hear of anything about Bale having repeated this behavior. If it was truly his character, he would not have been able to change it and no one (Directors) would want to work with him. There ARE other actors who have ruined their careers with their behavior on set because it was a pattern with them. Instead, Mr. Bale has made picture after picture and multiple pictures with the same Directors. That should tell people something right there.
@@mariamasabek8109 Same. The one where they are talking about roles that they played that the other was up for was really funny. He has been very lighthearted through the whole press tour and funny. How tedious to be asked the same question about the fight in the movie and who would win between Bourne and Batman. Literally asked and answered in 90% of the vids I've seen. They BOTH are still just good natured about it. Loved the one where Christian starts singing AHA Take on Me and Matt jumps right in. LOLLOL. When the interviewer says Christian was going off on a tangent, he says not really because the video for the song included the guy driving a race car. And it does! I remember it clearly. So it was kind of on point. LOLLOL.
Hmm Christian Bale might be a good choice to portray Nikola Tesla.
How about David Bowie's in the Prestige where he co-starred?
Dude Watch Prestige
Isn’t Nicholas Hoult or something playing him in a movie?
Ethan Hawke is playing the lead role in Tesla movie coming this month
Love Ethan Hawke. Probably a good choice as well.
Man, Bale's vibe is so intense.
the director of the film gave a great IndieWire interview about the film and Bale, one great quote: '' I felt the role was close to Bale [who starred in Mangold’s "3:10 to Yuma"], and prayed he would do it. He’s a model to me of artistic perseverance and flexibility. He'll text you with thoughts and free associations about the character. It's all incredible food. He’s a wonderful father, loving husband, great friend. He’s not interested in being famous. He drives a pickup truck, he’s grounded in the world, he raced motorcycles but had to stop when he got hurt, when he had kids. There are so many parts of Ken in Christian, who’s a perfectionist. He’s trying to achieve something for himself. It's magical to direct someone like that because they draw you into their own idealism. You feel that energy; it permeates the set. '' and its true, see these interviews czcams.com/video/R4yshe6h2FA/video.html czcams.com/video/YIeQthxGtoE/video.html , Bale is talking about his famous old Toyota and why he is still driving it, Bale is such a humble and down to earth guy, but he reveals himself very rarely in interviews, and this is Bale in this old car lol czcams.com/video/19XpFDKRBsQ/video.html
I love Christian Bale; so professional and down to earth. But also hilariously funny; that line about the catheter is classic and delivered so dead pan, you almost miss it.
Wtf are people talking about Bale being intense here? He’s laughing and smiling throughout the interview
Dang, lots of tension here. Prodding them about their career mistakes probably wasn't a smart move...
The interviewer putting his phone on his lap WHILE interviewing is a talent
I don’t see the tension everyone’s talking about. Great actors don’t have to be bubbly off camera, they just need to be awesome on screen.
The chemistry between these two is great.
People, Christian is probably not pissed off or anything here, in most of the interviews he did for FvF he's very charming and funny, poor guy just has a serial killer resting face.
I mean he did embody Patrick Bateman
Did the interviewer win a competition to sit down with these two 🤔
He's from reality TV show in the UK he's kinda shallow
Govinda also turned down Avatar, because he didn't wanted to be painted blue for the whole day

Just a little short fact; even though clooney is not in this, Matt Damon and George clooney came to my hometown in England while shooting the monuments men and decided to go to my local gym and do a workout, waking up that day I did not think I would be doing workouts besides Matt Damon and clooney ! Will always remember that
That’s crazy. Must’ve been surreal, especially given how you probably had to stifle the urge to say something.
Maybe not on the quite the same level of fame, but the band members of The 1975 visited a pub in a village a mile or so out from my hometown a few years ago. And just last year my mate was sat in a café in Nottingham when Robert Webb of all people happened to waltz on by the window, apparently looking quite grumpy. Small world, eh.
Jay Mazella yes was very surreal! I was the only one in the room to make conversation with them due to everyone else being too starstruck 😂 just chatting about the city etc then they went off to play badminton! After I was like did that just happen 😂 very small world indeed

Nice to see Christian Bale enjoy himself in an interview. Seriously funny when he wants to be!
What do y’all mean he needs to relax??? Batman doesn’t have any time to relax
If they shot several hours of the movie and had to cut many great scenes, then the Director should include a long directors cut for the DVD. I like Matt Damon, but love Christian Bale. Such an intense actor and person. Then half way through the interviewer I see Christian just angrily staring at the interviewer not blinking. I thought my internet cut out then he kind of moved. Of course he’s not angry. It’s just his resting bitch face.
Seriously Matt Damon is very under appreciated these days. there was a time when dude was the box office crusher, he was a global famous star. but now people barely talks about him, hell most of his movies from the last 9 years ain't that even interesting some them were big flops like The Great Wall. I think he should go back to the action route
The great wall's budget was 150 million and the movie got 335 how was it a flop
@@mannidkwhattocallmyself7821 That 150 is only what the movie cost to be made. It doesn't include what they paid to market it. In that type of film they spend just as much and more to advertise. So the total budget was really around 300-350 million

They should get Ozzyman reviews to interview them
2:48 Bale imagines the interviewer as Jared Leto
Its funny how Bale changes his accents depending on who hes being interviewed by haha. He went full Welsh accent in this one, but if interviewed by an American he will change it up
Welsh? This is Cockney that you’re hearing in this interview.
You’re right, though, and it’s always seemed affected to me, as though he’s trying to fit in or something. Tom Hardy does the exact same thing. Quite annoying.
Bale is English. He was merely born in Welsh. And by God, that is NOT a Welsh accent. Do you even know what it sounds like?
That wasn't a Welsh accent. lol he never lived in Wales long enough to pick up a Welsh accent.
Welsh? No I think that sounds more like Sean Connery's accent. Bale is English but has been living continuously in the US since he was 17. So almost 30 years and yes he is know a US citizen. I think after living here for so long, his accent has evolved. He used to keep whatever accent he used in a movie (especially ones where he is an American) for the interviews. As he's gotten older, more comfortable in his skin and is now a bona fide A list actor in Hollywood, I think he feels secure enough to do interviews now without policing his accent. Also, the man has been working very steadily for years. He's often doing press for one movie while in preparation to be or actually filming another. He has very candidly said he cannot easily turn off an accent that he is using for a role. So if you're interviewing him for Vice and he's filming or preparing for Ford vs Ferrari and getting the accent down, you might get the Ford vs Ferrari accent which is different than his evolved accent. I do think that when Brits get around other Brits, the accent becomes more pronounced which would be expected. Bottom line is the man is a natural mimic and his brain / ear connection works a little differently than other people. I don't think mimics even know they're doing it sometimes. For the past several years I think he's been pretty consistently using English/British phrases and slang with what I consider to be a hybrid accent of someone who grew up with an English accent but has been living in California for almost 30 years. Some "foreigners" never lose their original accents even after living here for a long time, yeah I know. But we're talking about someone who purposely changes accents for a living. Lots of brain wiring going on in there as relates to language. I hear maybe a little South African sometimes too which might have come from hearing his Dad speak. He grew up there.
love this interview
Absolutely outstanding performance by each one of you sir.. A very good movie and I enjoyed a lot.. Wish you all success for both of you..
Is it me or Christian is a scary dude? Imagine being that guy on that day who got shouted on...
That's just his persona that he uses to get rich. Much like his movie the Prestige, some men devote their entire life to the persona.
The interviewer wasn’t very good. Also with how short the interview is probably didn’t help. Bale also hates interviews, but does so just for promoting the film and if he didn’t have to, he’d never do interviews as he hates them that much.

Really bad interviewer don't use this guy again.
It wasn't bad in the sense of making bad questions (to be honest, I'm pretty bored with the same irrelevant questions being repeated again and again), because even at the expense of deviating a bit from the subject of the film, he managed to get the viewer "hooked". However, the time management (which revealed a personal preference towards Christian) wasn't good and he couldn't stand up as an "authority" and lead the interview. That's my take

Interesting that they mentioned dark knight in that context because I think Damon was asked to play Harvey dent before Aaron eckart.
I now have this image of Christian being weirdly familiar with the residents of Lancaster and Willow Springs. Like, on first name basis with some of the shop owners there. And now I wanna see him on an episode of "The Californians" on SNL when Bill Hader hosts again.
