    I had a TM40 on my previous DR650. Bought it from ProCycle and they set it up for me, and man it was perfect. The only thing I adjusted was the accelerator pump activation point. Otherwise it was perfect, the bike ran so nicely, I loved it! I live in Texas and haul my bike to Colorado twice a year for mountain trail riding, and the carb did great with just minor jetting changes and needle position change for the altitude. I've since sold that DR650, it was first one that I bought in '05, and I wanted a newer one so now I have a '21 model. Haven't modded it much yet, but working on it.

    I currently ride a ZX10 but I've been thinking about getting back into dirt riding like I used to as a kid. DR650 is right on the top of my list for a solid utility/dual sport bike, thanks for the video I wasn't aware this carb was available for these bikes!

    Agree with your comments. I put 50000km on my 06 DR that I have had for 5 years. My TM40 has been bulletproof as has the DR. Love my Nelson Riggs tailbag.

    Great video. I have a TM40 for my DR650. Just now tying to get it tuned. I am about the same elevation as you (Roseburg OR). What jet and pilot size did you have it configured at? Btw, my brother lives just outside Redding…off Pine Grove and I5

      Thanks Stephan! Not sure on which ones were used. I will have to dig through my papers from Procycle to confirm. I live just south of Redding in Anderson. This is a great area for riding. I need to get up to your area to explore 👍🏻

    I'm about to install a TM40 on my 1990 DR RS...I am curious to see if I'll get the same great result, in combination with a Laser ProDuro exhaust. Hopefully I'll get the same great results!

    Thank you for the review and I'm glad you're okay from a close call. The question I have did this carburetor upgrade eliminate deceleration popping?

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 2 lety +1

      The carb helped a bit with decel popping, but it will never go away as that is inherent in 4 stroke singles. The SS1 muffler and header pipe made a bigger difference in decel popping than anything else I have done.

    • @divebobber
      @divebobber Před rokem

      @@duelmen3 I like the popping.

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před rokem

      @@divebobber I like the popping on decel as well. But, I ride in the National Forest most of the time and some rangers are picky about noise levels and can be a bit vocal about the noise level.

    Glad you came out ok on the crash. I’m on the fence about the TM40 and pipe for my DR650. Curious,what made your decision and why on choosing the pipe and silencer combo? Thx again

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Robert, I had done the standard mods to the original carb and I bought the tail end of the exhaust first. Things were much improved, but not where I wanted it to be. I come from a 1970's 2-stroke background and I want that turn the throttle power band in my mind. I also did the grind of the header flange and didn't really feel any improvement from that mod. Coming from a mechanical background, I know the pumper carbs are much better at fuel/power delivery, but the cost was a big consideration. I actually had ben putting $$ aside to buy the carb. I emailed with Procycle about my riding style and current / potential mods and they set up the carb pre-delivery. I have not had any problems with the carb set-up and am very happy with the performance gains. I turn the throttle and the front will lift right up if I want it to. It never had that quick of a response before. I bought the header pipe after Christmas and it helped to smooth out the powerband even more, making the exhaust even sound about as quiet as the original until you twist the throttle. The biggest reason I chose the combinations I did, was they all have been set up to work together by Procycle and there is little to no maintenance involved, I didn't want to repack the pipe every now and then...
      Gary

    I got the Clark gas tank, does your tank have dual petcocks or one?

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 2 lety +1

      I did put a second petcock on my Acerbis tank. It isn’t linked into the carb though. I have a short bit of fuel line plugged at the end that can be easily removed to drain out fuel to help another rider in need. I have never used the reserve on the tank even on a two day ride 👍🏻

    I just purchased the new Makuni TM42-6 Flatside Pumper Carb Kit. How much of the airbox did you have to drill out? Did you remove the airbox snorkel? Thanks 👍

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 7 měsíci

      I first tried the mods to the original BST Carb and took out the snorkel and cut two 1" diameter holes in the top of the breather box. I have not cut any more holes in the box, but I have switched to a TwinAir intake filter which provides a better airflow into the carb. Hope this helps!

    Hello.
    Just got my TM40, installing it next week.
    What jetting are you using?

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 9 měsíci

      Hello @simenthorvaldsen,
      I will need to look through my old notes about what jetting was used. I bought my TM40 from Procycle pre set up for my bike and what exhaust it has plus the altitude range I ride in. After initial start up and and about a 10 mile ride, I only had to make a small adjustment to the idle speed.

    Just had my TM42 carb delivered, gonna try the install this coming weekend. Thanks for the video's, I enjoy seeing someone else do it before I try to follow the install instructions. I hope it has the performance that you describe. Any advice for me before I do my install? I am mechanically inclined and work on my bike all the time.

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 2 lety +2

      I felt the install was pretty straight forward for me. I did pull a few more items than what they tell you, but, being a wrencher myself, I felt it would make the overall install easier. Hook up the pushme pull you throttle cables at the carb, then at the throttle. Makes the hook up easier then fine tune the adjusters. Good luck and enjoy that new carb! Let me know how it goes 👍🏻

    Does your bike have a rebuilt title now?

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, it has a Salvage Title. The cost of repair by a shop plus the amount (cost) of replacement parts was more than the considered value of the bike. I bought it back from the insurance and received the overage amount they decided on as payment. There is nothing wrong with the bike as all damage was cosmetic dings.
      I don't plan on ever selling the DR, so it doesn't matter to me that it has a salvage title.

    What air filter and air box mods

    • @duelmen3
      @duelmen3  Před 4 měsíci

      I pulled the snorkel out and cut two 1" holes in the top of the box when I first did the Procycle mods to the original carb.
      When I installed the TM40, I went to a Twin Air air filter for better breathability. It made a big difference in letting the engine breath. Also,
      I run CR9E spark plugs which are a little hotter plug. They give a better burn on ignition.
      The misconception when saying the plug is hotter, it really means that the spark lasts just a bit longer than the CR10E, giving a better burn of the fuel in the chamber.
