Archie Campbell was a Supreme Talent. An amazing writer.. a fantastic story teller.. and a darned decent guy. A uniquely American Original. And the bits that he and Phil did together were sheer genius!

Ive shared the following story on other videos, but I was just a young boy when my mother was dating a man who owned an old automotive repair shop in Powell, TN right on Central Ave Pike. Well I would take my radio controlled car up to the church next door and race my toy around the vacant parking lot whenever I'd be at the shop with my mom. Well this one day comes along, and there was this funeral, so with all due respect, I kept myself scare during these somber moments while folks mourned for the loss of a loved one. Well eventually I returned to the little church and raced my toy around the lot until I grew bored and took notice of the headstones of some of those resting in the church cemetery, and wouldnt you know it? There laid Archie Campbell who had just passed away within that year, and I remember all the times my grandmother and I watching this man on Hee-Haw every Saturday night. I thought to myself, "hmph. Here lays Archie in a small cemetery attached to this little church and not some enormous gravesite full of celebrities" as many might think. Made me wonder if he was a member to the little church or why that was his resting place. I like to look back on Hee-Haw here on CZcams and remenese of the good ole days when my grandmother and I would watch Archie and the gang on what I often refer to as, "the hillbilly Saturday Night Live." lol. Good times though. Good times.
