In 25 years as a machine shop owner i have had this same experience 3 times. I know exactly what you are feeling. All of your hard work that you won't be paid for, all of the sleep you lost, heartburn, headaches and worry. Don't let it bother you too long. You are a great business owner. I can see that by watching your videos. Believe me it is not you or your employees, some customers are impossible. This unfortunately won't be your last one. One thing I wanted to absolutely applaud you for was your comments about not taking your frustration out on your employees! They are great people and will understand your sour mood the next few days, but don't deserve to have their heads torn off because of some jackwad customers. Keep your head up and you'll get through this!

I’ve run across a lot of mechanics that are beneath me. I was just working on cars at the church yesterday and gentleman wanted me to look at a car where oil/tire change shop said evaporator and condenser was out. Sounded odd to me either would go out versus other items and both go out at the same time. Tire change center wanted over $1500 which if evaporator is stuck under dash not completely unreasonable. What is unreasonable is the attention to detail needed on a job to avoid a very costly repair. Turned out to be a loose inlet valve.
That job along with others they have said needed brakes and rotors with 70% pad life remaining.
Moral of story, every single mechanic out for the money with a lack of integrity or attention to detail is beneath me.

I explained that it would take too long, be too expensive, they would hate me and possibly divorced. And that is EXACTLY what happened. Until they sold the house and CLEARED OVER A HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. I did not take a salary and did not make a cent during the process. Sadly, I never got the opportunity to make peace with them. They joined a health club and after five minutes on the treadmill my pal dropped over dead. She sold everything, moved to Dana Point and married a retired golf pro.

I to work on boats at huge marina and have encountered the same type people and like you sometimes you cut your loses and walk away. 99% of my customers are good while some of them think I should wait a month to get paid. Most of the time the ones that delay paying are my wealthier customers. I do have a rule now don’t ever pick up on something somebody else started working on. It usually turns into a disaster. If someone starts the jobs then walks away it usually one of two things. They got into a project that they had no idea how to do and bailed out. Second they screwed something up and didn’t want to stick around and deal with it. As I’ve got older I realized I have plenty of work doing basic things were I can go in get it done and move on. I don’t like getting into waiting on parts to be fabricated by someone else because if they are late getting it done guess who the customer blames. We have a thousand boats at this marina which is way more than I can handle so let someone else deal with the pain in the butt stuff. I use to take on anything someone ask me to do. Now I’m very select.

" I do have a rule now don’t ever pick up on something somebody else started working on." Good rule to have, and I'm learning that myself, because the previous guy probably walked off the job due to the customers attitude and behavior. I just recently started walking off job's mid repair, but only in the most extreme cases. Case in point, had a dryer repair 3 weeks ago. I don't mind dogs but the dog as this home was hyper as hell, and kept grinding its snout into my balls. I asked the lady several times "Can you please put the dog into another room while I work on fixing your dryer? She kept telling me it's ok, he doesn't hurt anyone etc. Last straw was the 5th time I'm on my back and again my balls are getting pushed in from this dog. I forcibly said lady get this dog the hell out of here right now! She exploded on me telling me how dare I talk to her in that manner. Jesus H Christ!! Thats it, I didn't say anything, just got up, packed up my tools and left without a word, with the dryer disassembled, and the whole time with her screaming, "Where the hell you think your going!? I'm calling the police. Some of these people are beyond insane anymore!!!!

I work in the service repair business (Appliance & Electrical repair) and people are becoming unhinged. Like literally unhinged, and social decorum has reached an all time low. I started a customer blacklist because of how my techs and I have been treated. Jobsites we will never go back too, don't care how much they beg or plead or say sorry. Some us get berated right as we walk in the door, becuase of another companys mistake. Like Sir/Mamm, we are here to fix the OTHER COMPANYS mistake. It's absolute insanity anymore. If you use the screwdriver to release the motor from full up a little distance, then you can attempt trim up to see if you can get the motor full up again. If you can the motor is nearly full up anyway.
Also, with the manual release you can left the motor down but you can also manual lift the motor back up again.
I had you at the beginning with your frustrations but a couple minutes into the video you changed your toon and said Mistakes were made all around.
I derive from that comment the customer is not the problem because he hires you to know about technical issues and easily doesn’t know who caused the problem so what’s with attitude. Secondly it sounds like you took partial responsibility later. The customer doesn’t take responsibility having not made the mistake, but as the person accepting money for specific performance the fiduciary responsibility is yours or the other individual that made the mistake, not the customer
