- If you've ever been interested in making a board game tutorial video, increase the production quality of your future videos, or just learn how to make an engaging board game tutorial video, this is the video for you! I started this channel because of this very topic; it was frustrating to want to play a game, but to be bogged down by the rules. So here, what's taken me the past two years to learn after much trial and error is what I've condensed down into ~13 minutes- in hopes that it'll help you get up to speed much faster!

I had an idea for a game and now I'm here. Subbed! Won't be producing videos soon but the info is great. Will be watching more soon!
Love your video
You have so much great content! You could revisit older videos and give your thoughts or ideas from a growth perspective. Now you have a giant rig for overhead shots. You are always progressing and it's truly inspiring.❤❤❤
Great video, it was really useful for me to see the process so I could apply it myself. I think the best advice for anyone after watching this video is to go and record your video, you'll learn already so much from finishing a video.
Kia Ora Tim. This was a really great video. Your production values are so far ahead of most video makers in Board Gaming. I sat watching this nodding and taking notes. Your process has an awful lot in common with mine. Slightly different goals of course, i never try to teach the whole game. Your slow motion stuff is great as well, so clean.
One quirk is I've been using black/white instead of lumetri colour and inverting the mask, which is a cool effect. And i'm definitely gonna use magnification on a vid after this, there is so many applications for that in my format. Thank you.
Thank you so much Jarrod! I just binged through a ton of your videos, and you're absolutely right! We have very similar approaches to the hobby, but I definitely need to learn how to categorize and hone in on different mechanics better while teaching like you do.
Ah I love that one! I think it's a luma fade and it turns out to be such a clean transition that really stands out. Thank you for taking the time to support my channel; it's much appreciated!
@@TimChuon Any time. I'll be watching a bunch of your stuff over the next wee while. I can learn a lot :)
@@3MBG Hey Jarrod, I honestly started looking for tips to do my boardgame videos better due to being impressed by your video style. And found Tim's video which was phenomenal (and I have to watch a few more times to get it right).... So its funny and coincidental that I see you as the first comment on the video... Great job to both of you!
Tim., Love your video and the tips on premiere to swiftly make it better highlighted. I'm looking for a good way of filming a card that you use during play. Any thoughts? Thank you
Great tips! I think there's a lot of confusion in the board game review/how-to-play space on what type of videos to create. People tend to combine rules (how to play the game) with a review (is the game worth playing) but I find those to be completely separate videos. No one is going to want to watch rules about a game they aren't interested playing and by combining those it creates a much longer video that isn't grabbing the viewers attention. I'm curious how you approach this and what tools you utilize to help keep your viewer engaged.
what editing suite is that, and who's paying for it?
Amazing video! I met you on instagram. I'm a video editor from Brazil. I started editing my boardgames videos and you are a great inspiration.
Thank you Sergio! That's so cool to hear you're doing the same thing a continent away! 😱I'll definitely keep doing videos like these; looking forward to seeing what you make!
Great video! I've been trying to get into board game tutorial videos for a little while now. Do you have a way of organizing what shots you need of the components/play? especially in relation to the script
Thanks Andrew! That’s awesome I’m glad you’re getting into tutorials! After I script everything, I start off actually doing all the b roll shots- setup, mechanics, filler for words/phrases that don’t have anything to pair footage with, and then I finish off by doing the entire studio shot in one sitting afterwards. I typically suck at getting everything in one go so I would have to go back a third time to get any b roll I missed!
@@TimChuon Thanks for the response Tim!
What program for video editing would you recommend for a Mac user?
Hey Josh! So i used a mac for about 70% of my videos currently and i used adobe premiere; I use a bunch of programs from the adobe suite (premiere for video editing, after effects for specific edits/effects, audition for audio, photoshop/lightroom for pictures & thumbnails) so premiere fit perfectly for me
on a technical side, premiere will be slower on a mac simply because of compatibility. My export times on a pc (just as one example) are blazing fast compared to when i had a mac. Regardless of how specced out a mac is, premiere itself isn't fully tailored for mac users. With that said, final cut pro is a great option and IS tailored for mac, but I've never used final cut so I don't have the experience to speak on that! hope that helps!
Hello my friend, great video content. I´m a Brazilian game designer and I have a card game / board game project and I will need a tutorial video. I do´t have time to make and edit the video and I would like to know if you are interested in working on it ^^
